1) why not. its possible.

i was wondering if peter can beat lin dan because i think that peter has already reached his prime while lin dan is still in his early 20s and reached the to spot already.............

1/ that should be possible :p
2/ what do you mean?
3/ that's possible too...
4/ I don't think he can get much stronger than he is currently, he is at 100% now.
5/ I don't think so because
a) of his (proven) unability to cope with the pressure
b) of his age by then

1) it's not impossible
2) if he beats him. then there's higher chances
3) either that or he drops. it'll take more to go up, really
4) is he in 100% form now?
5) i honestly don't think so either

The difference of #2 from #1 is: if he beats other players in competitions, he will be able to gain points and increase his standing(doesnt have to be Lin Dan)

ADD ON QUESTION:
Is hidayat Taufik really better than Peter Gade(Gade beats Taufik 6-2, but Gade was beaten by Taufik at the recent Athens Olympics)?

seven
09-07-2004, 06:28 AM
Peter Gade can beat anyone when it isn't important, he just can't perform when the pressure gets too high...
He can certainly beat Taufik regularly in normal tournaments, but he probably won't beat him in Olympics, World Champs or Thomas Cup capital matches.

Maybe you're right seven............. i guess he never won any major or big competitions by himself. But even if you're right, the match between taufik and gade during the olympics wasnt even at the finals.........he cant be pressured at that level............ryt?

I think the pressure is very high in ANY round of the Olympics...
Some players perform better under pressure, others under-perform... that's life! ;)

ADD ON QUESTION:
If Gade was not injured and still the old Gade he used to be, will he be able to defeat tough opponents(like LinDan,Chen Hong,Taufik etc) and win championships like the TU cup and the olympics?

unlikely either. he was never that good before this either. chances are slim that he would win.

i'm not being partial towards the chinese here ok? geez, it's rather tiring to have to keep repeating that.

I don't think it would change anything. Peter Gade's problem in big events is mainly mental, not physical nor technical.
I think his net-smash-kill game is maybe to predictive too... (I don't think he can easily change his gamestyle and stay as effective though, so there's not much he can do)

You just need to look at a few of his matches in big events (Sydney Olympics, 2001 world champs, etc...)
Gade is on top form in these events, he just can't cope with the pressure, I think all observers agree on this...

Who do you think is better? 2
Younger, Fasterer, Stronger
Whose style is better? 2
Lefty, with speed and power, more advantageous
Who do you like more? 1
Very close, but I'd rather play PG, as he does less annoying things than LD...plus PG really loves badminton, you know it's not really the money as the prize money doesn't go that far in Denmark as it would in China.
Whose smash is stronger? 2
I'd say they are about the same in speed, but LD can seem to do it at any angle and position.
Whose defense is better? Tie
can't really say one is better than the other
Whose offense is better? 2
LD same reason as answer 1 and 2 and is much better in the flat game (drives, drops but I give PG the nod on hairpin drops)
My add on question is Whose better under pressure? Tie
before athens I'd give it to LD, but after the fact I'm just going with tie

I guess they are both weak under pressure.
I think that LinDan still cant be considered to be better than Gade. Gade was at rank#1 for 62 straight weeks during his prime. LinDan is at Rank#1 for 27straight weeks. He still has not beaten Gade's record.

Lin Dan's historical run of Grand Prix victories - without a single defeat - between september 2003 and april 2004 is already more than Gade has ever done! (and will ever do?)

And he has already proved at the Thomas Cup he is (sometimes) capable of performing under pressure...

Where Gade is clearly superior to Lin Dan is maturity and humility. (and sportsmanship?)

another question:-

whos movement is better?

1 for gade 2 for lin dan

I'd say it's a tie as they both have unconsisitent movement. They change their footwork for the position they are in. Most players play like this but the likes of yang yang and zhao jianhua(especially) had very consistent movement. Gade flows more, like a dane, but lin dan is quicker and is more explosive.

lammergeier02

I will also say that it is a tie. Dan moves really fast. Gade has longer legs that can make hime move with only few steps.

Someone mentioned that before Gade's injury he wasn't good either. I do not agree as he was simply number one from 99-01 and proved at by as mentioned before 62 weeks as number one. As seven has said has Gade suffered under a low or none excisting mental strengh when it comes to big tournaments. Let me take an example, the Olympics in Sydney where Gade met Ji Xinpeng who played magnificiently. Gade was very nervous and couldn't cope with the pressure in 1st set and lost 15-9 but the coach said in the break that it was now or never and Gade simply outplayed Ji 15-1 like he did with Fung Permadi in WC99. Then again he got nervous and lost. This really indicates that he was number one above all but did not have the mental strengh. Now he is mental stronger, but lacks a little in speed and offensive play compared to his former self.

lammergeier02
09-29-2004, 07:30 AM
ofcourse he will lack speed compared to other players today........everybody will be slower after their prime years.
