I've recently injured by shoulder/upper arm due to lack of warm up so I'm resting it for a week or two.
Anyone got any tips on how to warm up these areas to prevent it happening again?
Also, I've been using Yoko Yoko (from japan/korea) medical oil which seems ok, are there any other good medical oils/cream?

I normally strech and do some rotation excerise for the shoulder area. Then I will start off with back court drops, drives, light clears (just a couple of shot) then normal clears, then light smashes and hard smashes, finally finish off with net drops. Then I am all set for warm up! Hope that help!

First, do some joggin on the spot to warm up the body, then do the head to toe stretching, making sure all joints get the full range of motions.
Next, use a light racket to play long deep shots for about 10min. Once the arm is warmed up, you can practice your fast drives and maybe start the game.

First of all when i start out playing doubles at the club i will go 1 or 2 games w/out hitting very hard.. even in the warmup when other players are cracking the shuttle very deep (I dont care) i will not hit power shots in a warmup .. if they want to move me to the back line on the first couple clears we hit they aren't going to get my to match that power before i'm ready.
after several games and by how it *feels* alone i will decide when i hit my hardest .
Also
have you ever considered ICEing your shoulder?
something i might try is ICE-ing my shoulder a guy i know at work plays baseball (pitcher) he ices his shoulder after each game and says most pitchers do this as it apparently speeds up the healing process.

Really? I've heard that some boxers do this too, in fact they submerge themselves in ice-baths to condition the muscles IIRC... I never knew it would help... I might give it a go...
So does your pitcher friend damages his muscles after every game?

Hmm thats a interesting question .. i dont think its really damage in the sense of an injury .. but perhaps damage the tissue very slightly which requires the very least some rest between games.
he did say that he didnt nessecaraly have to ice it..but that most pitchers do this as it speeds up the healing process
so if it has to heal u can assume there is some slight damage.

come to think of it i've noticed a strange pinch in my shoulder today..and i've noticed it on certain days in the past month... it bothers me to think about it
its like a pinch in the frontal area of my right shoulder - i feel it especially when i lift my arm up  ... its wierd because i dont know why i have it.... i played badminton yesterday night for almost 3 hours and my arm felt awsome.. i think mabye i slept on it funny or something - hopefully it goes away ..soooon!
i may have hurt it doing upright rows.... or it might be because i have been practicing my swing alot outside of badminton ... i'm not sure :/
But for anyone who lifts wheights .. DONT DO *UPRIGHT ROWS* - See Picture:

R20190,
Just wondering how your shoulder is now? Is it fully healed? How long did you rest? Any good tip for a speedy recovery?

I've had the same pinch that you're talking about. the one where you lift or move your arm in a certain way it kind of feels like you're getting pinched. i did it while doin a smash and i hit the shuttle kind of in a wierd way. my coach said that i was probably relaxing my shoulder a little more than i should of and also hitting the shuttle a little awkardly.
yea i found out that was a rotated cuff:confused: . my coach said to ice it for 2 minutes then leave the shoulder warm back up for one 1 minute and then repeat the process a couple of times.
well... i didn't do that. i just continued playing badminton and it just went away by itself in couple of days :D

I took 2 weeks off of playing .. i should have taken 4 .. i played twice so far and because of that its not gone away yet.

wow your lucky
i seem to be suffering from a slight injury now... i have traced it back to a combination of wheights and badminton
i know the wheights are what started to degrade the shoulder because i feel it also in my left (non badminton arm)
i've learned a few things since then .. Never do Upright Rows.. this exercise should be removed from any program your doing.. also try to minimize wide grip bench press ..these and a few other exercises are bad for the shoulder.
from what your telling me it doesnt' sound very serious .. so long as you rest your shoulder long enough.. right now i'm trying not to play and make things worse
Before and After You Play (prevention)
Heres what i'm doing right now:
1st i take a hot shower.. 3-5 minutes and run the water really hot on my bad shoulder - i roll my shoulder in very slow circles and try to relax it... i do this just before i leave.
2nd while in the car on the way to the gym i have a hotpack under my shirt shirt to keep the shoulder warm
3rd i warmup my body before my arm before i start playing.. i stretch my shoulder gently and i definately wont be doing any hard clears or smashes untill it feels right.
Last After playing when i'm home i will ICe the shoulder 2-3 times before going to bed
if i still feel any discomfort the next day i'll have to use heat and rest it untill i dont feel any pain.
