In general, smaller diameter grip allows more wrist movement and allows the racquet handle to be manoevered within the hand easier i.e. when switching from backhand to forehand grip.
Drawback is that if its too small, when you swing really hard, it may slip out of the hand!
And vice versa for the large grip.
This is only very general and in the end, people just try out different diameters until it feels really comfortable.
As a starter to getgrip size, grip the racquet with fairly firm strength with your normal forehand grip.
Adjust the grip so that your fingers can reach round to just touch that fleshy bit underneath the thumb.
Then try the racquet out. Adjust up or down to suit yourself
G3/G4...if it's a Yonex racquet G3 is bigger than G4.
Cheung

: hi,
: could someone tell me what difference grip thickness makes please, and how i would go about getting the correct thickness for my racket.
