Yes I will be. Finished runner up in doubles last year so hoping to go one better this year. Preparation is going well, so here's hoping.

yep. Just the Singles.
I'm hoping for a better draw this year.
Last year my first match was against my coach :(
Ah the old "I taught him everything he knows" one, but "I didn't teach him everything I know"

Our county use a grading system for our restricted. Anyone can enter the 'A' tournament, 1st and 2nd team players can't play in the 'B', while 3rd and 4th team players are also excluded from the 'C' grade competition. Does any other county run their tournaments this way? I think it works well.
The womens sinlges at the Devon has 4 entries, thats not the lowest it was three one year recently.

I think we had 13 in Staffs MS last year.
3 groups of 3 and 1 group of 4. Group winners into semi final.
Might have only been 5 in the LS.

unfortunatly not,
the Staffs county restricted is the same day as the u-17's opening (good internal planning and communication people)
so being a junior my loyalty is with them

Only 7 in the MS this year, and 4 in the LS.

Only 9 in our MS, 4 in LS. Not the worst ever for ladies, but the worst I've ever seen for the mens. Also, there were only 10 pairs in MD, 5 in LD, and only 8 pairs for mixed. Pretty poor turnout again.
I changed the format from stright knockout to round robin last year and I think this has helped, only small groups of 3/4 but better than playing the no.1 and going home.
MS 12 LS 5 (late entry boosted this lol) MD 14 pairs WD 8 pair MXD 16? pair
generally up on last year, considering introducing a "B" grade event to run in parallel to the main restricted to encourage non county players...

I think having a B graded event alongside the restricted could work for us next year. Our first 'official' graded tournament of our pilot scheme will be at the beginning of November so we should be able to start gauging interest then.

I think part of the cause of low turnouts in Staffs is lack of communication.
The entry form was available on the Staffs website well in advance, but you don't get to hear about it at clubs.
Whether the problem is between county and club, or club and club member, I don't know.
Yes, communication from county down to player is difficult. Our committee has representatives from the leagues who may turn up to half the 4 meetings we have a year. We send out info on the restricted to club secretaries who often havent seen the players or bothered to pass on by the closing date for the restricted. The restricted is on weekend 1-3 oct but the teams have to be registered by fri 8th, this leaves no time to pick up new players, uinversity players moving into area, etc.
woop.

played in mxd and mens doubles in bucks. apparently was the best turn out for 35 years. Means a LOT of people (myself included) won't be in any of the 3 teams the county has.
