Xia Xuanze just beat Rasmus Wengberg of Sweden 15/2, 15/10. The resultservice from this tournament is very bad. They say that they will update the results one time a day, so if you don't catch the result on the livescore you will have to wait until the day is over. Let's hope that they will do better later in the tournament

I was looking at the Denmark Open MS Draw and was disappointed to discover that many of the world's top players were not represented.
Conspiciously absent were the stars from Malaysia and South Korea and even Olympic Champion,Taufik Hidayat, was not there, though Indonesia was represented by Olympic Bronze Medalist, Soni Kuncoro and Simon Santoso.
Thankfully, the World No. 1, Lin Dan and the ever-popular, Xia Xuanze and Denmark's own star shuttlers, particularly Peter Gade and company, were there to grace the occasion.
I wonder what could be the real reasons and if I'm not wrong, last year's Denmark Open seemed to attract a more illustrious crowd.
Malaysia's case was reported in The Star yesterday that the BAM had imposed a 2-month suspension on national players from competing in international tournaments for failing to win a medal for the second consecutive time in the Olympics. Our own top shuttler, Ronald Susilo, had to remain at home to nurse some minor injuries and to prepare for the Aviva Singapore Open.
Could the main reason be that the top players are looking at the more attractive tournaments around the corner, in Asia? ;) I hope so, otherwise the year will end with a limp when we should be expecting high-flying sparks and excitement all over.

Your right.
The tournament is not as strong at last year.
Last year there was a lot of playings who was chasing point for the Olympics.

I seem to remember from another thread that he is a coach for the Junior chinese team, and enters a few of the tournaments himself for a bit of fun. I think he reached the 3round/quarter final (not sure which) of a tournament (french open i think) too.
I like it, its shows he still loves to play and keeps himself in shape. Either that or proof that he didnt train hard enough as a 1st team member!! (j/k) :D

also Peter Gade won 15-6 in first game,
Lin won after cruising the first then dipping at the start of the second,
Soni won after a close first then a much quicker second,
Kenneth also won his easy 15-2 15-1

i'm shocked?
is't really true
just last week i saw Boeson down by Jonassen
i think Kuncoro had Nighmare before that!
Anders Boesen is a strange player. He is a true fighter, and never gives up. He has a very high "best level". However, his playing style is physically very demanding (he is a typical "runner") and he usually doesn't perform 100% in more than one match in each tournament. My guess is that this was that match... ;)
Some surprising results in mixed doubles: only two seeded pairs remain!
Whoa -- Laybourn/Steffensen won 1st game 15-11 against Eriksen/Lundgaard!

But the elders seem to have warmed up now, they have the lead 3-0 in 2nd...

Chinadoll, yeah the site aburptly left the scoring after the 2nd set. That usually means one of the players quit do to injury. Seeing as how LIN easily won set two I'm assuming KJ got injured and retired from the match.

now the mens dbl is gg to start............
Darren Hall commented on the amount of promotional work Nathan and Gail have been doing although not sounding dissaproving "It's a once in a life time chance" I think he was being mindfull of this being the first tournament since the Olympics.
Nathan broke three or four rackets and in the end played the last two points with what looked like Yonex MP77 or old colour MP88.
The last 5-6 points looked like Nathan and Gail were just not trying (Nathan in particular) but the racket thing took it's toll on him mentally as he continually mentioned it after the match in the interview.
Anyway Jonas and Lars are playing and it's 8-8 in the first.
Jonas and Lars are 1 up and 7-6 in the second, Lars has the touch today and is placing his shots very well.
Game over Lars and Jonas won in 2, 15-10, 15-9.
I think Lars got changed in a phone booth today into his Super Lars outfit (sponsored by Yonex of course) :D
I don't think they broke a sweat.

Unless Danish players all trained too much, like what Korean players did in one World championship in new century, more than half of Korean team withdraw due to injury, I would guess(have not seen the games) it is because they both wanted to cope with Lin Dan's physical demanding superfast play, while both KJ and AB are not quick and flexible players like Taufik Hidayat.

It is always a pity to see professionals retiring from a match because of injury, largely self-inflicted unfortunately.
The Danish players who got injured are no mean players, great names having acquitted themselves so well in the past.
Whilst it is difficult to pinpoint at this stage what really has gone wrong, whether it is due to over-training, lack of preparation, trying too hard during a rally, being pushed to the extreme by an opponent, playing in too many tournaments within too short a period, etc, it still has to relate to the fitness of the player, whether physical or mental.
By failing himself during a match and retiring without being able to complete it, the professional is also failing his fans, the other players and the paying public. Can you recall how some players 'feint' injury, or that the injury is not serious, so as to allow their compatriots to advance to the next stage of an important competition?
Ideally, if a player is not thoroughly prepared, he or she should not, or be forced to, participate. The professionals hope to win especailly when the prize money is good, it is their livelihood, but they should be honest with themselves. A serious injury will only make matters worse for themselves as Peter Gade had experienced before. After he has recovered, he needs to restart his career by having to qualify for the major events as he has not been able to earn points during his absence.

definitley!! 12-11 in the first set to lin. Only Xia has had a lead of three (Once) otherwise they have been within a point of each other.
This should be a good game, Lin dan should want to make it faster paced, but longer overall game, Xia should be looking to play more attacking, to finish the points sooner.
would like to watch this game. My vote goes to Lin because although Xia is more experienced and skilled, lins' speed, fitness should pull through. I rate their mental strength and spirit as about even. They both have something to prove.

Chinadoll, are you watching it live? Is it on TV? Which station? Or on an internet live stream?
I'm sure she is watching from Singapore, not China. That is if she doesn't retire early.
I enjoyed both the WS and MS. Both were played at a very high standard although in the latter match, Xia wasn't able to capitalise on his earlier lead and let Lin Dan attack him relentlessly without reply towards the latter part of the second game. Therefore Xia lost the match in straight games but certainly acquitted himself well despite his loss.
Camilla Martin was the darling of the evening, resplendent in her light pale long-sleeve shirt and blue jeans, her shoulder-length blonde hair shining brightly. Short video clips of her past victories and matches, notably the one which she won the silver medal at the Sydney Olympics 2000, were shown. She was interviewed by Thomas Lund, another great Danish player of the recent past, and her pretty face was captured by the camera showing her in different happy moods closeup, watching her own images.
She certainly deserved the standing ovation by the appreciative spectators, the bouquet of flowers and a giant size 4-photo portrait of her done in 'psychedelic' media.
And as I write, JR & Lars had just beaten their young, unseeded Indonesian opponents of Setiawan & Kido in straight games to clain their first Denmark Open title. Congrats JR and Lars! And congrats too to our Indonesian pair for reaching this far! :)

Is there any1 captured this footage? Impressive and unforgetable moment for Camila. Farewell Camila, as we will not see you on the international courts anymore :(

Loh, you forgot to mention JR's flying kiss to his supporters, esp. BF members watching his match :D

You could always move to Denmark and play at the same club she does, you'll see her all the time.

Oh, I must have missed that one as I was then typing on my keyboard. Are you sure JR's flying kiss was not meant for the ladies only? ;)
Anyway, JR wouldn't know who the BFers were in the crowd, there was no banner and the gallery lights were dimmed to a dark blue for the most part of the matches. I will watch the tape again to confirm whether JR really threw the kiss at YOU. :)

Dill, you must be quite an admirer of her since it seems you know her every move, ie, apart from her fluid movements on the badminton court! :p

Lin wins in 1h 6min 15-12 15-11
Both of them make good comebacks, Lin winning the tournament and Xia Beating gade. I was actually surprised at Xia beating gade in the Semi, but well done to him.
(Am still cheering for JR in the MD!!)
i am SURPRISED that you're actually surprised!!:D

because IMHO (and feelings aside), XXZ better equiped in all aspects cf Gade barring the quality of racquets that they use, of which i know next to nothing about.
Too bad there is no Msians in this tourney.. sure have alot of effect on their rankings..
