It seems to me that Boonsak is the test for real top MS players. Why? Because Boonsak is a quite complete player: good technique, agile, fast, clever. While at the same time he is not extremely good in any of the above.

For example, we all agree that Lin Dan and Taufik are superior to others, and they both have the ability to demolish Boonsak. While Chen Jin is still not there, and we see how close Chen's win over Boonsak is ( I actually have the feeling that in Chn masters Boonsak is playing half-heartedly, not as concentrated as in this ABC final facing Lee).

So now LCW passed the test. He really dominated Boonsak in the final. To me this win of LCW finally puts him in the same leagure as Lin and Taufik. Hope I am not wrong.

I dont think that Boonsak is very far from Lin Dan and Taufik. All of the times I've seen Taufik Hidayat play Boonsak Ponsana, it hasn't been an easy ride for Taufik. Most recently I saw Taufik and Boonsak play against eachother at the World Championships, in an excellent 3 game match. I do agree that Boonsak definitely has work to do, but I wouldn't say that Lin and Taufik demolish him.

What I am saying is that Lin and Taufik have the ABILITY to demolish Boonsak. Like Taufik did in the Athens Olympics and Lin did in 05 World cup. So it is not necessary that Boonsak will lose easily each time.

Just a wild guess anyway. Since Boonsak is a very complete first level player, having the ability to demolish Boonsak proves that Lin, Taufik and LCW are exceptional in some aspects.

I think if Boosak under training by Li Mao or any great MS coach, he really could become a great MS player. And can have the same level with LD, Taufik or LCW.
He is really good.... but he really needs better coach.

I think that at this pro level it really comes down to how much you train and to polishing your technique and minimizing errors. otherwise all top player have more or less similar abilities. the difference must come from doing less errors / keeping focus during match, which probably comes from lots of training.
Indeed if Boonsak is a student it must come on expense of training time (beleive me I know :D ). so this is quite a challenge to compete at the top players level while you are not fully dedicated to badminton (like I guess most top players are).
If he keeps his recent performance I hope we see him in more finals this year

In last week’s SCG All Thailand Championships held at The MCC Hall in The Mall Ngamwongwan, most of the predictions have gone in tandem with the results in the finals. But the biggest upset came with the loss of Boonsak Ponsana, 6 times National champion, because of a shoulder injury.:crying: :crying:

With all eyes on Boonsak Ponsana, the All Thailand Championships winner for the past 6 years, disappointment sets in when the local ace was defeated at the qualification round by Jakaphun Thanateethum. Despite having shoulder injuries after China Open, Boonsak went on court bravely but lost to Jakaphun Thanateethum in 3 sets at 21-17, 6-21, 21-19.

With the absence of Boonsak in the competition, Thai Men’s Singles number 2, Poompat Sapkulchananart seized the chance well and displayed a marvelous performance. Eventually, he went on to win his first All Thailand Championships title by thrashing Thai junior, Pakawat Wilailak 21-19, 21-13.

Congratulations to Boonsak and Thailand for the wonderful results in SO.

For a non badminton superpower, Thailand have done well in having two representatives in the SO finals yesterday i.e. men's singles and mixed doubles.

How come Malaysia, despite having full governement backing and excellent facilities we are unable to be up there competing with the best??? Something is really wrong with the way we develop badminton in Msia.

lets not get into politics of badminton players and their badminton association lest this becomes one of the other threads that got carried away. congratulations boonsak for winning SO. i did not get the chance to see him play but knowing he beat lin dan shows that he is one of the top player now. all the best to him. i was just watching his match with taufik during the olympic semi finals. he was so frustrated then. taufik played him like a big brother teaching a younger brother a lesson. but now he is all grown up i guess. taufik better be careful. he he he.

boonsak looks good currently. he must improve if he want to win consistenly. he beat Lin Dan in deuce and he might not be that lucky next time. the best thing for him to train harder and harder so that he can beat Lin Dan in straight sets in the future.

yes, this Boonsak is a great guy. he cope very well between his studies and badminton career. he wanted a more secure future so he studied at the same time. no one can match his ability to play world class badminton but study at the same time. he will realise his true potential after training full time.

Looks like beating the World No. 1 seems to be the benchmark. Anyhow, even if Boonsak doesn't do that as often as he would like, if he plays consistently well and win more tournaments, he certainly will be a player to be reckoned with. Getting to the top without any expectations is easier but staying there is another story. Great effort BP.

yes, you are right. playing consistently is important. Boonsak cannot expect to beat Lin Dan by deuce everytime. he needs to improve again in order to prove himself that he is really better than Lin Dan. everyone is eyeing on Lin Dan to lose and Lin Dan needs to maintain his composure at the top.

i think beating lin dan should not be the main goal. being in the top three should be his goal. consistently reaching semi finals and finals. lin dan is number one but he is human after all. he could not win them all but he has shown that he is very consistent. so the challenge is to be as consistent as lin dan. a lot of people can beat lin dan on their good day. and lin dan can beat a lot of people on his good day. :p so i will root for boonsak just so there will be a level playing field which in turn means that the MS will be so much more entertaining.

Well said. And it's good to note that some top players take it as a challenge to meet other top players because it's only then that they themselves can bring their game to a higher level.

actually i feel the super series is damn stupid...the players fight n fight...not yet even have a good rest then need to fight...its not fair actually for the finalist in aviva...cos the losers get to rest earlier..the winnners overdose...its really tiring...who did this super series thingy??i feel boonsak is really tired..and cth lww

azabaz_ipoh
05-11-2007, 08:49 PM
i think in the super series format, nobody will be able to perform up to mark all the time for every tournament. we have seen top players being disposed of in the early rounds. now, more than ever, i feel ok with my fav players not winning certain tournaments. it is really a level playing field. with stamina playing a bigger role unlike before where a more experienced and mentally superior players have been conquering the tournaments. now, we cannot judge a player if they exit in the early rounds. and we really cant expect them to win back to back a lot of times. boonsak must be tired after the hard fought matches in singapore. i think they injure themselves a lot more too. which is a bit worrying. maybe even lin dan felt the pressure of performing well in all tournaments.

this may be a bit negative, sry to boonsak fans.

i've supported boonsak for a very long time but he hasn't won anything for a very long time.. haha.. until i stopped feeling heartbroken when he kept losing and was ok if he lost. IT was great on him to win the SO!! Congrats again and again!! and he lost in IO, which is ok too.. haha.. Yay boonsak, you're the man!!

boonsak not winning IO does not mean he is less a player. he showed he is capable of winning. so he is a top player in my eyes. that's why i say it is more difficult to stay on top in these super series. it takes a toll on you. everybody go through the same thing. even lin dan has been beaten in early rounds. so has other top players. boonsak should be proud of his achievement and strive for more. :D

Having watched the match, he has a lot of drive to win. In fact, he went on overdrive to win. IMHO, it's just too bad he met BCL whose reach is obscene. You should have seen how hard he worked to retrieve shots that most (99%) of player wouldn't even bother.

His effort alone more than made up for MK/HS's disappointing performance in this SO finals.

I agree, he is overdrive.
He really wanted to win the title. He love playing in Singapore alot. Although he lost, but I think his determination in court won him many new fans.

Sometimes things are just unpredictable. Both sides had equal abilities to win one another. Well 2nd is good enough, the fact that Boonsak haven't been on top form for the past few tournaments. He is slowly climbing up again.

He had the drive to win the rally, but not the title.

I don't know, but that's what I felt during the entire game. BCL was more determined to get the title. BCL complained when he felt there was a bad line judge call. But after that, he made it sure to get the next point.

BP should have taken the advantage of BCL's momentary lack of focus. However, that didn't happen. BP still allowed BCL to take control. BP was the one struggling, running all over the place to keep the rally alive. He had the determination to win the rally, but not the match itself.

I don't know how to explain it. Suffice it to say that BP was not aggressive enough. That's what I felt during that time.

I was at the edge of my seat because I really wanted Boonsak to win. He definitely has the talent and the skill. And I think he could beat BCL. But still, something is missing. Who knows? Maybe he'd win in his next tournament. :)

Haha... I do not agree with you but it's not important :D. In a way, Boonsak is just who he is, staying away from the judgement. IMHO, it's hard for him to beat BCL due to the extended reach -- BP's style relies on moving his opponent off position and to do that to BCL, he need to push his shots to the very far corners increasing the chance of mistakes.

Now, were you in the Singapore Indoor Stadium? Could have met up with you and go for beer :p:p.

his fans call him "man" -- does anybody know what that means? i assume it's thai, not "man" (as in male person) in english right?

justme_manda
06-19-2009, 10:07 AM
Yup it's Man in English. It's a nickname the Thais gave him. They actually call him superman. Most Thai's has a nickname. You can actually add a 'P' infront if he's older than you.

P'man!:D

Not sure about now but previously he has. After so long, I think they are still together though. :)

wow..
congratulation for his graduated... :) :) :)

i think it will be better if he has 2 carriers both as badminton player and a lawyer...

why did he postpone his education...??
he can do both of them...

justme_manda
06-23-2009, 07:37 AM
But is not easy having to juggle both at the same time. Especially if he wants to remain at the top, he has to focus on only one and make a sacrifice. Anyway, most people should know he actually has plan to retire after Asian games next year to continue his studies and be a lawyer.
