Hi everyone, since I saw a low of people with digital cameras from BF there today, I thought that I'd take the initiative and start a pictures thread so we don't clog up the other one just for talking about the tournament. Here are my first preliminary panaoramas. More pics to come in the hours and days to come.

And to cap it off. Due to popular demand. A movie of a quick point between the Koreans and the Taiwanese from my digital camera. Naturally you'll have to squint to enhance the resolution. Mileage may vary. *sarcastic* :o

It's too big to upload here, so here's the link.

Hey ants, I was using a Canon S30 Digital. No special lens was used. I just stitched together a series of photos to create the panoramas. Given there's no flash photography allowed, and I was very far away from the action at times, some of my pics were naturally blurry (the flash won't reach so far anyway).

Glad you enjoyed the pics. I'll have more next Saturday when I line judge the finals for the individual events. :D

I'm not sure actually if that is the indonesian team. That was taken from the lower area where the teams and line judges are sitting, so it could be. I can't say for sure. Others may be able to help.

Yes, that's the indonesian team. The girl with a cup in her hands is "Polli" who made a very strong impression to the audience during a match against Denmark. The indonesian girls are short compare to other countries' female players.

10-25-2004, 06:27 PM
They didn't jump very high, but nor did they have to. Many times during their MD match vs Indonesia, the Indonesians would lift then take a step back to defend, only to have the smash buried 3 feet in front of them at an insane angle. The Indonesians kept looking at eachother in disbelief while laughing every time it happened. It was quite amusing.

Well I went today and I checked out the prices. The shop is run by Lee's Badminton from Toronto. Their prices are about the same as Clearone... but tax are included in their prices... Some prices I remember off the top of my head....

$295 = Armotec 800
$245 = MP-100
$7 = Yonex Super Grap
$12 for 3 = Yonex Wet Super Grap
$38 = Yonex Aerospace-50
$14 = Yonex Mavis-350

Yep, Lee and Yoo are retired and helping with the Junior team. Lee was very gracious in giving authographs as a number of the spectators asked and received his autograph.

Why put the shuttles into a bucket? and on a camping chair?

The bucket is used by the service judge who also looks after entering the scoring into the computer which translate to the live scoring :D. They put the used shuttles into the bucket and take the new ones from the tube. All shuttles are then returned (after the match has concluded) to shuttle control where the used birds are "discarded" and remaining unused shuttles are then grouped together to form full tubes for use in the next match. In the picture, because it's the finals, they only needed one box of 25 tubes otherwise in the earlier rounds, they had approx. 100 to 150 tubes.

WWC, do you vancouverian use speed 4 in vancouver? I thought speed 3 is for sea level

international-metric wt.-grain - speed
1 ------------- 48 ---- 75 - slow, for use in highland
2 ------------- 49 ---- 76 - medium slow, for use in hotter area
3 ------------- 50 ---- 77 - medium, most sea level area
4 ------------- 51 ---- 78 - medium fast, cold area
5 ------------- 52 ---- 79 - fast, cold area, below sea level

Hmm...thought you knew ;)

As you know, we are in the midst (well, early) of ice hockey season and it does take time to freeze the ice so they kept the ice and put plywood over it (probably have plastic as the first layer) and then plastic sheets over the plywood and then the courts and carpets. I think originally they didn't have the plastic over the plywood and the moisture from the ice got pulled up by the zippers (I believed that the court pieces are zippered together) and hence the problems with players slipping on the first day of the tourney. The courts also buckled in some places before they finally fixed it.

i also noticed a lot of the players (esp ones from china) are wearing very thick jackets. and the linejudges (including our very own 604badder and others) are wearing longsleeves underneath their official t-shirt.

That's correct about the moisture at the seams. The sweepers were instructed to go over all the seams from the net out between the games to remove the moisture that seeped through. Also the courts you can see are not all flat everywhere, there were some places where it buckled up slightly. Seemed like it was due to the material being over streched previously though, and not from an uneven plywood surface.

it could also be the moisture getting into the plywood and started to warp them due to uneven distribution of moisture within the plywood structure.

Ah yes, very good point. You'd think they would've put the plastic sheet on the ice first. And even then condensation would still be a problem, but at least it won't be direct ice on wood.

She isnt serving, it is only when you are serving/recieving that you have to remain witihn the service box (not touching the lines).(i think!)

Just like in MD when you rpartner is serving you can stand Halfway over the two service boxes, or wherever you like.
