View Full Version : Help Racquet Help
cityhunter 11-12-2004, 11:13 PM Hi all. I am 15 years old and have been playing with my ti-5 3u racquet strung with Bg-65 string for the past 3 years. I find the racquet to be very manuverable and i am very satisifed with my smash and clear power, i find control to be a bit on the touchy side when playing at the net and on short drops, but other than that it is a good all around racquet. It was the first "high" end racquet I bought. I paid $150 canadian for it in 2002. The strings are showing lots of wear and rather than get it restrung I am considering selling it to a friend and buying a new racquet. I have a few ideas about what racquet i would like next. I was interested in the Ti-10 for a long time, but with the release of the Armortech series I am not sure which is better. I am not sure about the muscle power series as i heard they are mainly just built for raw power, and i have enough of that with my ti-5. I was looking around on several sights and found a racquet I have never seen before. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31366&item=7112040245&rd=1
It is a YONEX ISOMETRIC Ti SWINGPOWER SR I've been hunting around and haven't managed to find any specs on the racquet at all. I was very interested in it and I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on what kind to possibly buy. I think i've narrowed it down to the ti-10, this Isometric Ti Swingpower, the armortech series, and possibly the MP series. HElP! Any suggestions?

i say Ti10, newer tech models do not always mean better, but always mean more $. If u are used to ti rackets, stick to the same range but higher model.
Special thing with ti10 is thin stiff shaft compared with lower ti models i think.
Ti10 needs some time to get use to if move from flexy light racket, from ti5 should be fine. btw, try the racket bef u buy it. however ti10 maybe rare in other areas apart from asia now

Yeah crazy your right. The only place I've seen Ti-10's still kicking around is on Ebay. I live in Manitoba so the only real high end racquet shops we have are in Winnipeg. I checked with several of the stores and found only one had a Ti-10 and it was the 2u version. I would love a 3u version but I've been told they are almost impossible to get a hold of. The only one i've ever seen was on ebay. Also, do you reccomend 65 or 68 string? are the 80 strings that much better? I don't really want a 2u racquet since i prefer an all around balanced racquet. I would like to try a 4u but i am satisfied and playing well with the 3u version so if it aint broke why fix it.

3U ti10 only in thailand i think or maybe japan.
I do not find ti10 2u heavy personally, just stiff.
String best? Thin ones. bg66 at high tension. With the racket stiffness and thin string , the shuttle stays in contact with racket shorter time, thus explosive clear, smash and more feel on delicate shots. I find this factor very important for me.
Ti10 actually is an intermediate racket which is most effective in 2U unlike light head heavy rackets like armortec. Like i said, try a 2U ti10 first before buying if u feels comfortable with it. With regards to buying or trying it, maybe some fellow Canadian bfers can help :)

Japan is out of Ti-10 already, but you can still find 2U or 3U Ti-10 in TW easily.
I will be getting mine when I go back to TW this December :)

Extremely hard to find Ti-10 in Thailand, it's been phased out from the Yonex shops for a long time, so I think you'd have to find some other supplier to obtain it.
cooler 11-14-2004, 04:24 PM going from 3u ti5 to a ti10 is a big change.
ti10 is head heavy while ti5 isnt

Okay thanks. So even the 3u ti-10 will be way head heavier than the 3u ti-5? If this is so, is the Ti swingpower also head heavy? Are the armortech series not head heavy? I may just keep my ti-5 and restring it. I can't decide bewtween 65 or 68 string, or is there a different kind that is better than both?

Ok, Let's clear the misconceptions.
Ti10 was never head heavy. :)
Its balance pt is only 285-290 mm for my 2U G5 with thin grip.
ISO900, MP88, Ti Swing Power, Armortec are head heavy > $305mm+
Only thing is Ti10 is stiff, i mean really stiff. That's what makes it feel head heavy sort-of. String, if u like thin, get bg66, thick get bg65. high repulsion and feel get bg85, high repulsion and bouciness get bg68ti.
