I am kind of new in badminton, only been playing for 8 months
training 2 times a week $50 * 8 months and counting:eek:
my first tourney entry fee cost $75
rackets, birds, bag, shoes, I would say around $1300:confused:

I do thing badminton is not dirt cheap sport, but it's still cheaper than fishing, JMO

hmm interesting question... atleast £350 :crying: (including my racquet, stringing, birdies, shoes, food + travel, court bookings) within the last 3 months

:D Well I have had a bad week. My $200 Adidas court shoes I had just bought, felt good in the shop, but hurt my feet and could not play with them at all. Then my 8 month old Armortec 700 hit my partners racquet and probably doesn't have much life left. So I bought $113 Yonex shoes (feel great), then $246 on another Armortec.:crying:

Plus:
MP100 - $330:eek:
Bag - $60
Clothes - $500
Lets see 6 tournaments a year x $35 = $120/yr
Drinks, food = ?
3 nights a week = $25/week
Strings & restringing = $240
Grips = $50
Memberships =$60/yr
Petrol = ??

Well give up...$$$ is not a factor you put on enjoying yourself and playing such a great game:)

Mp 27 - $114(string + grip)
2 grips - $8
bag - $19
jersey - $25
shorts- $18
shuttlecocks - $30

total= SGD$214 and planning to get another new racket soon!!

Seems most of ppl here spend the majority on equipment. If you live in New York, you will find out compare to the member fee / facility renting fee, all the equipment cost will be the "minority". :crying:

Thousands and thousands :(

I was spending £1200 on restrings alone per year :eek:

Then there's travel, club fees, coaching, shuttles, clothing, tournament fees, accomodation etc.......................

That's it I'm giving up! No wonder I can't afford a car :crying: :crying: :crying:

It's not about how much money you spend... its about how much you enjoy it, like Robbo77 said. It likes when you use 4 birds in one game, it just means that its probably a good game...

How much?

Too much.

Plus, I hate it that I often play with moocher friends who dont even think about bringing shuttles, or people who buy cheapo shuttles knowing full well they dont fly acceptably even when brand new.

racquets/bag 350
shuttles 45
grips 25
stringing/strings 75
court rentals/bookings/passes 50
food and liquids... oy. i'm a guy. guys eat and drink a lot.
transportation...?
should i include university recreational membership fee as part of this? (since all i use there is the courts for badminton)

ebay has been good to me for equipment, even though everything was bought new.
grips last quite a while (except recently. i guess maybe i play harder than before).
stringing is good. friend does it, so its good quality work for a super low cost. haha.

everyone i play with are real good with the courtesy stuff. for example, whoever breaks the shuttle, replaces it with one of their own. and whoever's shuttle was broken, keeps the replacement.

I'm quite new to this forum, and tried searching for a similar topic for my question below, but making a new thread might be a waste of space, so I'll combine my question and my answer to the topic here.. If no one minds =S

So here it is, I spend + borrowed all the money I can to buy a MP-30 after getting irratated by ISO23VF.... I'm a really poor guy, and really like badminton. The string is going to be BG80 at 23lb, 1 more lb than the recommendation... Picking it up on wendesday (it's monday right now).

I'm really not sure if I made the best choice in buying a racquet considering there wasn't a wide selection for my price range.

:)Question::)Do you guys think this is a good choice? BG80 @ 23lb? How decent is MP30? alot better than ISO23VF?

Anyways let's see how much I've contributed to badminton....

lessons: $200
Iso23vf : $50
MP30: $130
string: $24
shoe: $80
(In CDN, and I kinda rounded the numbers)

=$484......

Play since ~October. CDN dollars.

Iso62MFLT --> 50 bucks
Airblade Titanium --> 40 bucks
Strings --> 20 bucks
Shuttles --> 35 bucks
Entry Fees --> 40 bucks
Griptape --> 20 bucks
Food/Drink --> Too much, haha.

205$ + consumables. Eh, not bad

Eversince I began badmintion in Juinor high, my thought is to upgrade to better equipment when you get better, and not get over $500 in raquets, shoes, clothes, and string.

My list;
Pro Kennex ??- 20.00 started at this in 9th.
ISO 30-60.00 US 99.00 SIN
ISO 60 Light [ raquet now]- 110.00US 180.00 SIN [ dad bought at RSH Changi so they are overpriced.]
Ti 10-[ uncle's, but I use now]-not sure
Wilson court shoes- no need for yonex 20.00
String- Bg 68 ti and Bg6-not sure, uncle bought it
Grip- Yonex Super Grap 5.00
bags- free yonex bags from uncle:D
Total= about 215.00+30.00 for shorts and shirt, not sure though dont pay for birds. Gym is free:D all good...for now

This is an excellent topic!

Well it varies what I bring in the bag but my present inventory is:

Forza Titanium 10CF = 820 SEK
Forza Titanium 6CF = 899 SEK
Racstar Champia = 499 SEK

Yonex SHB 58 M = 599 SEK

Totally 2817 SEK of dedicated badminton equipment, about +400USD with actuall exchange rate.

Add to that about 1500-2000 SEK for cloths, also used for other sports.

And I'm not counting expendiables like gripwraps, (re-) stringing, shuttles, courtfees, startingfees and the likes. Annually I would estimate that cost to be about 3500-4000 SEK.

My next buy I look forward to is a racketbag (my old backpack is falling into pieces) and I'd probably need a second pair of shoes too.

awesome investment, i must say.

beware though, the payout isn't going to be $$, but lots and lots of fun in the badminton court and better health in the long run, which is priceless. well worth it imho, i must have invested in badminton 10x the amount you have, maybe even more.

oh dear, i can sense another mastercard commercial spoof coming....

badminton racket - $100
badminton shoes - $80
shuttecocks - $15
open gym fee - $5

better fitness and health till old - priceless.

Kwun, you'd better be careful and register these slogans. Before you know it, you will see them on the TV somewhere in Asia!
