View Full Version : Need Urgent Information!
Wai Shing 11-23-2004, 09:44 PM My friend has a MP77 he'd like to buy, but he just realized that the cone comes off, it can slide onto the shaft. The wood is in perfect state and the racquet doesn't twist around or anything, but I'd like to know if this can actually affect the racquet? Can it break easier because of the cone is off? If I stick it back using glue, will it affect my racquet in the long term?
Please reply before Thursday as it will be the deadline!
altreality 11-23-2004, 09:52 PM The cone itself is stuck with glue and the broad end is stuck to the original leather grip with the black tape... no reason for it to come off so easily - unless the orignal grip and tape was removed..
anyway, just stick it back with proper contact adhesive- put on a new grip and your're good to go...
don;t think it will affect racket drastically mebbe add 1-2 grams
Wai Shing 11-23-2004, 10:02 PM I forgot one detail...will the wood be worn off eventually by the glue or other adhesive products?

I think yes, one of my old racket was glued back after the same porblem then after 1 or 2 years, the spot qhere the cone is became very flexible. I don't know if it's normal or it's my racket. Does someone had the same experience then me. It will be good to know more about this problem, please reply.

LOL, i do know LKS is thrifty and doesnt like wastage. ;)
for the cone, dont use regular, glue, use silicone sealant(caulking) or polyuranthane glue. You're from quebec, they do have home depot, canadian tire or revy there.

Just get the right adhesive to bond wood.... the right adhesive should not wear off anything... if you are really paraniod, try using 3M double sided tape.
anyway, even if the wood is being eaten by adhesive, it should not affect the flexibity of the racket per se. .. its probabaly because there appears to be more "play" where the cone is creating an impression of flex.
