Just returned from stadium.

Men's- Semis- Chen Hong, Xia, Rony and Ong Ewe Hock.

Xia and Rony seem well suited to new scoring.Hendrawan a bit

lost although in good form.

Others no surprises.Left before doubles was played.

I was at stadium but left early. Whole stadium full of yellow

jerseys. No wonder some people say China is home of

badminton.Saw some interesting people eg. Verawaty filming

matches.Asfar as I know at time I left Halim/tony just won.The

new scoring system creating minor havoc, eg. World champs

Gao Ling and Huang Sui were taken to 5 sets by Lim Pek Siah

and partner.Gong slogged against Kelly. Most of supporters

were Danes from Digi club who toured Msia recently and

played friendlies.

All four mens singles finalists equally good and dangerous.

Everybody in stadium complaining about new scoring but it is

obviously going down well with Rony, Chen Hong and especially

Xia. Hendrawan, Zhou Mi, Dai Yun and Gao Ling are really lost.

Lin Dan a very good player with good strokes like Yang Yang.

Just as YY, given time and exposure, and a little more

incisiveness in strokes and physical development, it is possible

that he may be as successful as Yang Y or Sun Jun.

Mohd Hafiz also physically ideal and fast like Taufik or Rony

but if not properly nurtured will probably end up like his brother

and his coach.

Chan Chong ming and Chew Choon Eng is going to be as

deadly as Cheah Soon kit and Soo beng Kiang/Yap Kim Hock.

well semis over.

1) Chen hong just couldn't cope with drafty aircon stadium, and

an opponent who probably has the longest limbs in the game.

Rony plays like Eddy Kurniawan , plays a simple defensive

and counter attack game and is very explosive in attack. No

surprise as CH always loses first time round.

2) Xia/Ong played at a furious pace with Xia attacking and Ong

counter-attacking.As usual in decider Xia was puffing and

make many mistakes.Too bad both games played

simultaneously.

So tomorrow Ong versus Rony, and I am sure Ong is going to

get thrashed.

Men's doubles-Chew and Chan were whitewashed.

Tour apart, it was nice to see the players close up, in fact Gong

Rui Na, Zhou Mi, Dai Yun, Gao Ling etc looked even prettier in

real life with smooth complexions and shapely legs.

Lin Dan and Bao Chun Lai the rookies spent the whole semis

taping matches next to me.Reminds me of a time in 1985 when

Yang Yang and Zhao Jian Hua were doing the same in Stadium

Negara. They are so eager to learn and were last to leave. I

think we are going to learn a lot more about them.

Bambang was very confident and was even laughing when

studying his opponents tomorrow in action.

The best is over, finals going to be boring..

Ong Ewe Hock surprises everyone by beating Rony over 5 games. There is still a place in new system for defence and patience all though coaches are telling players to go for all out attack.Rony is still young and was very nervous when he could't put away the shuttle.
