How long have you been playing?

I'm really getting into badminton and I REALLY REALLY want to improve. I know improving takes time and I am willing to put in that time in order to do so. I'm curious though, how does it take for someone to become a skilled player? How long has anyone here on this board been playing the sport?

Um about 10 years. about 2 years seriously, and 8 years just clowning around and playing on the weekends

IMO to be a skill player you need to have a good coach for guidance, if a coach is not available, than you need to study the theory and techniques of badminton by video or books or both. it is like physic class in high school, you learn about the theory in class, and apply the theory in lab. of course it helps to start at a early age.

- First picked up a badminton racket and played at age 6.
- Played until age 17 quite regularly. (took classes between age 12 and 15)
- Then came to the US and got the chance to literally play five times in 5 years
- Now still in the US, but a different state, and playing thrice almost every week :)
(P.S. Yesssss...boy I missed this game during that 5 year spell)

I wouldn't say I'm a superb player, but at the same time I'm not that bad either. On my day it takes quite a bit to defeat me...unless my opponent is a pro or much above average :)
