View Full Version : dealing with jetlag
Jonas,
how do you deal with jetlag when playing a tournament in a far away city?
i just came back from HK yesterday, today i went to the gym and my reaction time was 1/2 sec slower, seems like my body was tuned incorrectly.
Do the players not arrive well ahead of time to get adjusted?
Try to sleep during the long flights in the plane. usually players arrive few days before a tourney to get adjusted.

Maybe, but if you have to leave 2 days before and after each journey when you are not up to the level, then if you do 14 tournaments a year that would be up to two months of not being able to train or focus properly(although all tournaments are not long distanes I know).
If you can reduce this time, it will obviousley help.
Jetlag is a strong factor when we go around the world and we have to be aware of this because it makes us weaker for a couple of days.
The first thing we do is to sweat some of it out through exercise. This reduces the effect of the jetlag. Otherwise, we try to adjust our sleeping rhytmn to local time which can take up to a week.
