...just when I thought my quest to find attractive female badminton players had been satisfied by Hoit (USA), Kati Tolmoff (EST) and err...sort of by ZhouMi , someone finds a pic. of some hot tottie with a racquet :p. (I'm still trying to decide whether the girl on her left emphasises or detracts from Tania's good-looks.)

I couldn't find any more pics. (if anyone can find some, please do share them :D ), but I did find some details on worldbadminton.net:

The girl is pretty and all that, Badminton level is okay, but note she does have a boyfriend (think he was a former Dutch National/International) plalyer and seems pretty serious about - from what I could tell a while back when drving them and other squad members back to the airport from Australain International in Sydney last year.

Yo know Maz, being a girl has a better chance of talking to her than me on this, or better still try and get one of the Melborune members to help.
Even better still if you really want, I can try and ask Lenny to talk to her about joining the forum - ha ha?!

I'm thinking of the promotion of badminton to the masses! :D

We already have famous European professional players (and World Champion) ... now we need more "advertising;" and since Zhou Mi, Gong Ruina, Xie Xing Fang aren't native English speakers, then why not Tania Luiz.

Lin Dan, Bao Chun Lai, Xia etc attract female fans like crazy, and I think latitude is warranted for MALE fans too, ha-ha.

Sorry about the grammar. Yes she did as I remmeber speaking to her and him at the time, sorry maybe he wasn't Dutch, Northern European (this guy had a name being with S or seomthing like that?, really short hair cut and glasses) Yes I know Jane had been playing in Dutch league with Velco, and has Dutch a boyfriend.

Well, you can find out for yourself by coming to watch the Australian International (in Ballarat), Clendinnen Shield and Australian Closed Championships (in Kilsyth). I think these are compulsory selection tournaments for the Comm Games team. Team to be announced soon...

The one held at Kilsyth is played during Saturdays, well.. pretty sure anyway.. 70% sure.. ;)

yeah, the aust international will run from thursday 01/09 to sunday 04/09...clendinnen and aust closed will run from 06/09 to 11/09. so there's plenty of opportunity to drop by on the weekend(s).

Oh.. Not sure if anyone from Aus. around here saw the AFL Grand Final, but there was a commonwealth games parade kinda thing with a single representative from each sport.. guess who it was for badminton.. :D :D

I think you seem to be obsessed by this girl. do you even know her or does she know you.
Im sure she would be less than impressed with all this attention, especially when shes doing a good job promoting badminton in Australia. Wish there were more like her.

its an old photo and partners didnt have to wear the same clothing - maybe different sponsors

Just wandering yesterday while watching australian open tennis...luckily tania chose badminton instead of tennis, wouldnt seem weird in a country like australia if a girl like her would choose tennis seeing the money publicity and even goverment grant would be way more than badminton, shows she does have a passion for badminton lol

btw i was watching hingis play stosur(australia) and it wouldnt be hard to imagine tania playing one of them lol she would just be a lil smaller but would still perfectly look like one of "them"(female tennis stars)

no lol i dnt even know her yet i just moved to aus 1 month ago from nz, just heard about her... dnt even know if ive seen here b4...mayb i hv during the 1* NZ open lol...i got tht info from an article posted smwhere, but i guess i'll b seeing her a bit more in future since i'l b quite active in badminton around melb from now on

Btw...i think i saw her on a commonwealth ad on tv...it has like a few athletes on it but couldnt confirm coz it kept switching from one person to the others face and she wasnt holding a racket so mayb some1 else seen it?

I'm pretty sure she's like.. the ambassidor for the sport of badminton for the '06 commonwealth games.. I'm not sure.. but I'm pretty sure I picked that up from somewhere..

aww my tania poor baby she is not well known among the aussies.. none of muh frends know her....poor babe...hope she could win a medal..lol. or at least play very well....she is too hot to be unnoticeable....hope one day when i read the newspaper with the title.....

TANIA Luiz was trying to perfect her karate chop when she took a liking to shuttlecocks.

She arrived in Australia from Saudi Arabia at nine and three years later developed a passion for badminton after watching her father play. Now she is waiting to hear news about her Commonwealth Games selection.

"I'm in a good place at the moment, but it's going to be tough," Luiz, 22, said.

"I only started playing singles at the beginning of last year, which was a change quite late, so it's still a big learning curve.

"The decision is out of our control, so we just have to wait and see."

The announcement of five men and five women will be made on February 1.

Luiz, who works part-time at Tennis Australia, is our top singles player, but she fancies the medal chances of our female doubles, men's doubles and mixed doubles teams.

"The ladies doubles team of Kellie Lucas and Kate Wilson-Smith has done well in the past and they are definitely up for contention," she said.

"In the ladies singles there are a few good players, particularly from England, Malaysia and Singapore."

As one of the last teams to be selected for the Commonwealth Games, training has continued in earnest at Altona Leisure Centre under the eye of coach Claus Poulsen.

The Thomas and Uber Cup events are in Auckland from February 8 and are the most important teams events on the badminton calendar.

There are four teams competing in the Oceania stage -- New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa and Australia. The winning sides will contest the world finals in the Japanese cities of Sendai and Tokyo in April-May.

"We've had a few tournaments in the build-up to this and it will be a great competition," Luiz said. "Last year I went on a few different trips to China, Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei. As a social sport it's big, but at the elite level unfortunately we don't have juniors who go on."
