To all BCers and BFers,

I know the WC is still quite a while(7 months away), but I am thinking of doing this, just like how some of the BCers did a get-together during the recent Aviva S'pore Open..
Since i know some of us are in California, I know there will be a few of us who will be coming to the World Championships(ie. Kwun), i was wondering if we BCers could do a get-together. I've met Paisan R. and familiar with some of the U.S.Badminton people and currently i am assigned as a "Liaison Officer" for the event so i would know more infos on the event as well as the teams coming in(I was helping the Indo team during the last US Open and currently i'm assigned to the Indonesian team for the WC).
One thing is for sure, the Indo team will at least go out and do a dinner party. For example in last year's US Open, when the Indonesian contingent came(they were ex-players), we went out to eat dinner together 2x(one time for Halim's birthday with Howard B. and the Philippine team and the another time as a regular dinner exclusively for the Indo team with Tony G.)..

Let me know if any of you guys need any assistance with getting a place to stay/transportation as I live not too far to Arrowhead Pond(about 20 min. freeway drive). This would be a fun time to get together..:).

yes, most definitely.

it is a pity that there are assigned seatings. i was just talking to another friend about it and we all agreed that free seatings will make group cheering easier.

however, outside of the stadium, it will be ideal if we can get together and play some badminton. i am not familiar with the gym arrangement in s. cal but i am guessing most places are drop-in style and that will make it a bit more difficult.

since you are familiar with the area, in your opinion what type of gathering will be more feasible?

Kwun,

i don't know when you(and the others) will come??Will you(and the others) be in the L.A. area the whole tournament week or just on weekends(QF, SF, Finals days)??Cos if you(and the others) are going to be here the whole week, then most likely if you want to play some badminton then it has to be either before the Preliminaries(Sun.) and/or during the QF, SF, Finals days(Thurs. til Sun.)..Preliminaries and the 1st 2 days of competition will be full tilt, with draws starting from mid-morning til night-time I believe..

About the most "feasible" gathering, i can't think of one "ideal" gathering. I think playing badmiton together would be a good idea. Other than that, i guess we all can meet esp. with Jonas Rasmussen and co. I'm sure he will be happy to meet us there. Other than a possibility of eating out, we could also arrange for some other activities if time permits.

Now, speaking of playing badminton, there are only 2 "real" badminton clubs in the So. Cal area(OCBC which is near the Arrowhead Pond and SGVBC). There are 1 or 2 other places near the Arrowhead Pond if anyone wants to play(it's not a club, but held in a university/school). There is 1 place near my home also(a public gym), but it's open Tuesday night(which we prolly won't make it) and Saturday evening only. The OCBC will most likely will be used throughout during the WC by the players to practice. Other than that, there's another club in the city of Rosemead(i don't know if you've heard of the city or not) called the San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club. That club is open 7 days/24 hrs with fees for guests. It's about almost an hour drive from the Arrowhead Pond. And if anyone wants to play during the WC week, most likeliest time will be from Thursday til Sunday in the morning to afternoon time. I can arrange to take you guys there if anyone wants to play. Heck, i could be working as a "tour guide" during this period for you guys(hehehe)..:).

I'm up for meeting with BCers and playing some badminton! we'll be staying nearby the arrowhead pond. So long as we're coming all the way from Vermont, it would be a shame not to test out some of the badminton facilities in CA... :-)

Benny,
i sent you a private msg regarding an LO job description. Try to get a lodging near the Arrowhead Pond arena. There are several motels/suites/inns within walking distance both to the arena as well as to OCBC(Orange County Badminton Club) where the players will practice. If you want to stay in hotels, they are a bit far and you will need somekind of transportation to take you to the arena.

I was wondering if you could send me the LO job description as I applied to be one too (hopefully I'll get assigned to the Chinese team :D )! I will definitely be going to WC2005 and am really interested in meeting BC members and playing baddy with you guys too (though I have to warn you I suck). If you guys decide on anything, I'd appreciate a private message or maybe an email listserv type thing, since I rarely get to check these forums these days. :crying:

Hi,

I'm coming down...hopefully as a linejudge again, but probably won't be bringing my racquets. Anyone spare me and my buddy a racquet if we get a chance to come play and do the meet and greet?

I haven't made up my mind about going to see the 2005 World Championships or not but I am definitely up for some badminton at San Gabriel Badminton Club. I live in Irvine so it's only about an hour drive for me, not too bad.

If you guys decide to come bring some money since charge entrance fee. I think drop-in fee for the guests are $8 USD for the whole day. If we do decide to play and get together, we definitely should make a plan and coordinate the events.

But yeah, that is an excellent idea.

P.S. So far, I have met three members from this forum. I can't wait to meet more members.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: Sure you are welcome to use any of my racquets to play with for those days that you do not have to be a line judge. I am sure the other members are bringing a few racquets themselves so there will be enough racquets for those who need one for the day.

Sorry, forgot to mention about that. Personally i haven't been there, but heard about it, just haven't had the time to visit the place. I'm just thinking about distance/time wise if the guys are coming from Anaheim/Orange County. I'm not sure about the time it'll take from OC to Manhattan Beach during regular weekdays, but it looks like it can take a bit more time than to go to SGVBC. Plus you have to think about traffic in and out of the L.A. area during peak hours..:p.

Anyways, we still don't have the official time schedule for all the matches yet. But if you guys are up for a BC group travel, the "best time", IMO, is to go and play(as a group) either on:
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday in AM until afternoon time slot.
Mondays and Tuesdays will probably be filled with qualifying rounds taking the entire day from morning til night. As for the QF, SF and Finals days, it will most likely take place in the late afternoon/early evening til evening time.

Also, I'm sure some of us "locals" can arrange some "special request" time to take some of you "out-of-town" guys to play some baddies..:).
Too bad, there aren't any "real" clubs anywhere "near to" Arrowhead Pond, just OCBC which unfortunately will be used the whole week for the athletes..:p

Manhatton Beach Badminton Club (MBBC) is about the same distance as San Gabriel from Orange. They have less courts than at SGVBC but often they are less crowded.

Shannon,
is that you??...if it is then i noticed from your screen name-sPOHL..:).

Well, i've seen you play before quite a few times in local Southern California tournaments..Glad to have you aboard in BC also..Are you still pursuing your WC qualification position??..I heard they will have a Wildcard position for the host country..

About the MBBC, yes, it's probably about the same distance to SGVBC from OCBC. But how about the traffic going back and forth?? I also heard the club is "private", meaning "only members" can come in and play?? As i heard, unlike SGVBC or OCBC, the entrance door is locked and you have to actually speak on the intercom to get in??..

yep..can´t put anything passed you! haha. just kidding. nice to hear from you on badminton central!

who´s this? your screen name isnt as obvious! yep. still pursuing world championships! and yes, there is also a wildcard position.

hm on traffic.. depends what time of day.. but I have found it faster than SGVBC when traffic is good. Hmm.. not sure what the policy is on guests... you´ll have to ask them. Ive never been locked out or had a problem but thats a good idea to check ahead of time! good luck and have fun!

I have just discovered your website today and have spent most of the time reading some of the posts instead of getting on with some work so thought I would register.
I am coming out to LA for the WC as 1 of the International LineJudges, having been 1 of the "lucky" ones to be chosen. It would be interesting to meet if there is a get together. Don't know how much spare time I will have as previous tournaments have shown that line judges get worked very hard but we do have the best seat in the house.
You will easily find me if you are there as I am the only line judge coming from Scotland.
Should be an amazing week if 1997 in Glasgow is anything to go by.

From Scotland, that is a long way to travel. I hope WC is covering part of your travelling expense. If you are looking for accommodation, KWUN has set up a deal with Holiday Inn near the venue.
Holiday Inn deal (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20763)
This is still cheaper than staying at the sponsor hotel (even if you are renting a small car plus parking and eat breakfast somewhere else).

See you at the WC.

Hi All,

I'll plan on attending the WC this year. Also, I know the San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club (SGVBC) well as I play there once a week. It's a good place to play. Here's their website: https://secure.ksb.net/badminton/user/default.asp

The SGVBC has 10 courts and a Pro Shop and is usually very busy with instruction. It would be prudent to make reservations in advance but I can find out what the peak hours and off hours are and see if we can get a special group rate. I would need to know how many would be participating.

Also, if you need any equipment, you can get it through a coach that teaches there. Please tell me in advanced what you need and I'll get you pricing.

Panhandle: yes, I have a some MP99s with BG85 you can borrow. I hope that's sufficient. :)

Dan,
thx for replying and making yourself available to help the out-of-towners who will come to the WC and play some baddie..
As I mentioned before, and most likely you've read the previous posts, i was thinking and told the group that the best time would be after the 3rd or 4th day of the tournament, as the last 3 to 4 days of tournament won't be as jam-packed with matches..Thus the most ideal day(s) will be from Thursday til Sunday..Time-wise it would be either in the morning til afternoon time, then we have to take them back/or they have to go back to the hotels/suites for them to get ready for the night matches....Or if anyone wants to really play, they can come in after 12 pm at night..
All in all, we have to consider about the traffic, to and fro OCBC/Anaheim Pond area..Shannon Pohl also suggested the Manhattan Beach Badminton Club, but that place is a private club, not as open to the public as SGVBC..
Anyway, we'll just re-announce this again prior to the WC and then you can help us make the necessary reservations @ SGVBC..

BTW, i visit SGVBC every so often and know some of the people there..Will you be playing in this weekend's Badminton Klassic Tournament there??..

I saw a packaged holiday in badminton england magazine for 9 nights /10 days to anaheim. I'm itching to go but going on my own is very expensive because single occupancy costs $1784 USD :crying: and double occupancy costs $1156 USD and for triple occupancy costs $939 USD. If anyone is going from UK and also planning to use the same packaged holiday then maybe I can afford to go.

I have just talked to Eric Mcmullin, the manager at SGVBC about us interested in playing some baddie there during the week of the World Championship. He has aggreed to give any BC member a Special weekly pass to play at SGVBC for a flat fee of $25,- for the whole week plus 2 days before and 2 days after the tournament. The place is open 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. There're lots of 24-hour chinese restaurants around. What do you think?

Hi guys...just wanted to mention...if you're in the LA area during the summer, i.e. during the World Championships, you should check out the badminton facilities at UCLA. The membership is $35 the entire summer, and open rec hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 7:45 to 11:45pm and Saturday 12pm to 5:45pm. I think the facilities are pretty good (I've been playing there the past year) and I'd be happy to play with anyone willing to check it out, as I'll be returning to LA in July. I don't know if there is a one-day fee though...I'll find out if anyone is interested.

Another thing....did you guys figure out getting together to watch the World champs? Since I'll be there in the summer, the only thing I need is a ride....don't know if anything solid has been set yet...thanks :)

Yap, lets have our own "World Championship Compartible"(WCC) tournament while we all gather in Anaheim. We can have East vs West like MVP Cup format. The closest badminton facility I know in Orange is OCBC and I think it's all booked by the WC organiser during that week?
I will be in from QF to Final sitting on 208 row P seat 13,14, do drop by so we can know one another. This is what I know about the WCC participants:

Australia : Jump smash, ????
Northern CA : Han, Kwun, ????

Yap, lets have our own "World Championship Compartible"(WCC) tournament while we all gather in Anaheim. We can have East vs West like MVP Cup format. The closest badminton facility I know in Orange is OCBC and I think it's all booked by the WC organiser during that week?
I will be in from QF to Final sitting on 208 row P seat 13,14, do drop by so we can know one another. This is what I know about the WCC participants:

It's just for fun so really doesn't matter how good/bad you're in terms of skill and there are still many issues to resolve for the WCC 2005 like where do play and where to get the equipments(rackets), ... I don't think I want to fly and bring the rackets along. I am also curious is camera/camcorder allow in Arrowhead Pond? Anyone in Anaheim(BF member) can help ?

Dan,
as far as the number of courts needed to be reserved etc., most likely we won't know yet for sure until most of the BC folks convene in Anaheim. The best day, IMO, is Sunday(the 21st) as that will allow plenty of playing time prior to the Finals. I haven't played or visited SGVBC on Sunday in quite a while, but I don't think Sunday morning until afternoon is crowded there, so maybe that'll help a bit.

Of course, for those folks that want to sneak in to play after midnight or play at a different day, it's no problem also, right Dan??..

My main concern now is the logistical and transportation issue:how to pick up and bring back the folks that want to play from Anaheim area to SGV.. :p

PS.:For those folks coming in early in the week for the tournament, i will be at the Pond of Anaheim, available to meet/contaq you guys on the first day. I will be helping as one of the LO(Liaison Officer) along with another of the BC member here, scchang

Yes, the place opens 24 hrs, technically. As long as there are people playing there, it should be available, eventhough the shop will be closed by then.

Sure, you guys or anyone interested to play after the games end(or maybe even skip the last few matches) can go there. Contaq our BC friend Dan(S4MadMan) if anyone wants to reserve a court. However, my guess is most likely the matches will be finished around 11ish pm, basically every day(i went to the recent S'pore Open, and at least on one of the day, it finished by 10:30ish).
Plus the drive to go to SGVBC, at least will be 30 minutes.

BTW, Tornado, will you be renting a car here or going with friends??..Remember Los Angeles is not like other cities which have accessible major public transportation. You basically MUST HAVE YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION if you want to get around in L.A, otherwise you're handicapped...:P. ;)

Hi Chris, I spoke with Eric McMullin, the manager of SGVBC today and he said to reserve the courts online, on a first come first serve basis. I can do that but again, I would need to know the dates and times and it's $10/hour but we are guaranteed the court for that time.

Also, after 12am, the lights are on a timer and you need a member card to turn on the lights on again. I guess you guys can borrow my card if there are hardcore BCers that want to play into the late hours of the night. :p

After midnight, you usually won't have to pay because the shop is closed.

Finally, recently, SGVBC has been very crowded during the weekends but not many people reserving courts, just people waiting around to get in some pick-up games.

$10/hour is quite affordable. BC can pay for that. it depends on attendance, but say if we can rent 2 hours for 3 hours, that should be enough. eh?

I've replied in a few post earlier in this thread, that I as well as scchang(another BC member) will be helping out with the tournament basically the whole week. I know some of us here will be coming in later in the week of the tournament, but if anyone will be attending the tournament the entire week, you guys can contaq/look for us. We'll tell you guys sometimes next week how you can identify us.

Realistically speaking, we'll most likely be gathering, as a group, sometimes either Thursday(18th) and/or Friday(20th) once *most* everyone have convene.

Also, if you guys want, you guys can PM me or scchang and ask for more details on how to contaq us.

Let us know if there are any other inquiries..

Woo-Hoo! BC picking up the tab? :p BC rules! :D Then I'll supply the shuttles as long as they aren't Aerosena AS-50s. ;)...I have plenty of DHS 302s which are adequate (for the money).

I'd say one court for 2-3 hours would be just fine for up to 8...10 BCers. 4 on the court at all times, the others can make fun of each other, etc... :p Then rotate.

Recently, Saturday and Sunday mornings are quite crowded.

Also, if we have some "A" or "B" BCers coming, Monday and Thursday night could be fun for you as you can enter in the "Pot Luck" tourney and win some cash. Check it out here:

Oh yeah, SGVBC only reserves courts up to 12am. After that, it's first come, first serve.

yes. S4MadMan is helping us to organize this. everybody please RSVP to him via PM ASAP with your contact phone number.

Kwun: I received a few RSVPs but I still don't have a firm date/time when we should all get together. Everyone is tentative and understandably so. If we don't get a concrete meeting time, it will be very hard for me to reserve the court(s).

Regardless, I'll be here at work all week so I can drop by SGVBC just about any time (if need be) and I figure once all the BCers actually do arrive, they'll have a better time frame.

I went to the meeting today for the WC LOs and we have received our uniforms. So for those interested in identifying/meeting me or getting in contaq with me, if I do get some time to hang around the Pond, I will be wearing one of 'Very Cool' Yonex shirt(Blue) with the World Championship, Yonex 'Very Cool' warm-up pants(Gray) and a Yonex 'Very Cool' jacket(Blue).
We(the LOs) will also be wearing some hats.

I will be helping the Indonesian team, as well as at the Sports Desk Table at the Anaheim Marriott, throughout the tournament..BTW, most if not all players are staying at the Anaheim Marriott, so if anyone wants to meet some players, you guys can swing by the hotel. Actually today, i was able to meet L.Paaske, JEriksen, and KJonassen(they were one of the early arrivals).

Yah, we're fortunate the WC committee and organizer were willing to spend some money for these apparels, to show professionalism. BTW, the apparels are not cheap and they actually import them direct from Japan(just these probably cost about close to US$100). Actually, we were suppose to get some Yonex shoes as well, but i guess it was a bit too much..:p.

As this is the U.S. first attempt, the organizer are trying to present the "best ever WC event in IBF history"..:).

BTW, Vtec101, are you and LO also??..if so, what team are you assigned to??..

I don't know who will take care of Taiwanese players but I will try to meet with those players since many of them are from the elementary school that I went to (many years ago).

Sean,
from what i saw on the email Vicki sent to us, i don't see the time Chinese Taipei will arrive at the hotel nor who will greet/welcome them or will they be coming in by themselves.
However, Vicki gave us a list of the tentative practice schedules for all the teams. And i noticed Taipei is suppose to practice starting Friday afternoon.

Here is the Chinese Taipei's (tentative) practice schedule:
Friday - 12:30 - 2:00 pm(Pond) and 6-7 pm(OCBC)
Saturday - 10:00 - 11:00 am(Pond) and 6-7 pm(OCBC)
Saturday - 10:00 - 11:00 am(Pond) and 6-7 pm(OCBC)
Monday - 10:00 - 11:00 am(OCBC) no more @ Pond
Tuesday- 6-7 pm(OCBC) no more @ Pond

OK, hope this helps. Again,Vicki said these are tentative. Maybe you can contaq her and ask when are the Taipei team arriving @ hotel.

If we have any LOs for the team here, it would be awesome if you could let me chat with them for a bit and get a few autographs! Chris,

Is there a welcome party for the Indonesian team before the tournament like the one they have for the Malaysian team this coming Saturday? Has anybody initiated this? IF not, how sad? Who should I talk to regarding having one for the Indonesian team? I am thinking of having a BBQ in the park or dinner in a local restaurant for the team before the tournament. I don't think it's too late to organize one since they will be arriving in LA Friday night if I'm not mistaken.
I am invited (kinda begging them to invite me) to the Malaysian team welcome dinner party on Saturday at a local Malaysian restaurant. I'm so excited and planning to take some pictures to be posted in this forum.

Gunawan,
the Indonesian team have arrived already tonight(came in a bit late to the hotel around 8:30ish pm, spent almost 2 hrs. at the custom, but fortunately everything went smooth). They are staying at the Anaheim Marriott for the entire tournament. Only the players and coaches have arrived. The only ones coming in later(on Monday evening) are Rudy Hartono, M.F.Gumelar, and several other PBSI staff and their wives.
Right now, I believe there are 10 players, and 4-5 coaches/asst. personnels. And 2-3 coaches' wives coming along. So total around 20ish people.

No, it's not too late yet. However, if you want to organize one "quickly" the only time will be on this Sunday night(14th). And since I am one of the Liaison Officer for the Indonesian team, I can contaq them directlly. Please let me know if you want to take in charge of this and do a welcoming dinner party. Please let me know by tomorrow night(Fri.), because Saturday I will meet them at the practice facilities and I can tell them of the invitation, so they can arrange their schedule. Right now, the team manager is Lius Pongoh, as he's the one that is quite "fluent" in English.

Or if you want, if it's too tight of a schedule, we can do one right after the tournament has ended. Or sometimes during the week. As of now, I don't know their schedule and i don't think they have a "host" yet. Don't know if the Konsul Jendral in L.A. will invite or meet with them or not.

Let me know Gunawan, tolong PM yah your HP no.

BTW, regarding the Malaysian team, not all are here. Wong Pei Tty and another player are coming in separately. If not mistaken, they'll be coming in tomorrow(Friday).

Not sure if this issue been brought up before or not. I told some local friends about the special promotion from SGVBC for BC/BF members ($25 for 9 days?). 2 of my friends (from NY) went to SGVBC on sunday 8/14, but seems ppl over there (pro shop clerk?) have absolute no idea about what BC/BF is.

Of course, they did not care about the several extra $ they spent, and they did got a great time there. But I still want to confirm if the promotion ever exists, as I don't want to provide wrong information among local members.

Well, I am sure ppl can use the 3 courts for the "center stage" to finally meet each other w/o the computer screen. If the waiting time is too long, and ppl want to get into some action, they can always go to other non-reserved courts to play / drill, right? ;)

Hello everyone,
I just joined the list to try and get in some badminton while I am there, but I am need of some transportation. I am staying in Anaheim at the Penny Sleeper Inn. I have two in need of transportation. Any chance anyone could swing buy, or I could meet them somewhere else in Anaheim. It will be me and my fiancee. She won't be playing but she wants to come and watch us. Anyone can e-mail me at cprice55@hvc.rr.com if they can help me out in some way, and I can give more details. I leave my home today to go to the airport about 1pm eastern time, but I should be able to check my messages once more before I go, and then hopefully I can check them again when I arrive. Thank you to anyone who can help out.

I sent my phone number to Kwun in private message. Anyone who can offer me some assistance can also reach me using the phone numbers I gave to him. S4MadMan also has the contact info. So if you need to reach me and it's after 1:00 PM Eastern time today, the phone numbers might be a better bet. I don't know where or how often I will be able to check e-mail while I'm away. Thanks all!

Hello everyone,

I just realized I made an error when leaving my home yesterday. I left the computer on. This means I will not get any e-mails anyone might send offering assistance with a ride. They are being downloaded to my desktop instead.

So I need to ask anyone who might be able to help to please either call my cellphone, or private message me on Badminton Central. Again, Kwun has my phone number, as does S4MadMan, who is coordinating the get together.

I should also note again, that I need a ride for two people. Two people are traveling, only one is playing. I would actually like it if someone could call and leave me a contact number for somebody in the area who has internet access. I am concerned about where I can go online to check private messages on Badminton Central once I am in Anaheim, and a little worried that I will get there and be in a black hole, without being able to contact anyone.

I can meet anywhere else in Anaheim if necessary, and pay for a share of the gas. Please leave a message on my cell phone if you do call, because I won't have reception all the time during my travel. Thank you so much for any assistance anyone. I hope I don't get there without a number for someone, and then find that I can't get online and find anything out if someone left me a message or a post.

Cory,
don't worry, once we'll meet together at the Pond and discuss the next steps(ie. what to do and how to arrange your transportation for this coming Sunday)everything's going to be fine..don't worry, relax and just enjoy the WC...we'll be waiting-:).

I arrived in Anaheim. 12:15 PM.
I see some offers, but no contact info for me to reach someone, and no messages on my cell phone. At least I have internet access, expensive as it is. Anyone who can take me and my fiancee pls contact Kwun for my number, or PM and I will send them my cell phone number. I am at the Penny Sleeper Inn, and I can meet anyone at the Pond. My first sesssions of badminton are on Friday afternoon session. If someone could tell me where to meet them once at the pond, that would be great.

Thanks everyone!

I apologize for the inconvinience. I'll talk with Eric Mcmullin today to remind him about this deal again. I am sure he will sort things out. I was there playing yesterday from 10AM 'til 2 pm and came back last night to talk to Eric until almost midnight. What's your friends' names?
Thanks,

Problem solved. My friends called me last night to confirm that they were honored with the weekly package.

They are enjoying the cheap (but fantastic) facility, and asked me to say thnx for the BFers who spent great amount time for the gathering and special promotion package. :)

Update # 11

OK, everything is confirmed, BC has courts # 8-10 reserved.

When you enter, please go to the Pro Shop and pay for your entrance fee.

Then proceed/meet at Courts 8-10. If there are people playing on the courts, kindly tell them that the courts are reserved for BC. There is a white reservation sheet posted on each court and Courts 8-10 are for "Dan Chien" (that's me) and BC. You do not need to wait for them to finish, from 10am-1pm, the courts are paid for and reserved for BC. If you feel uncomfortable asking, you can just go to the Pro Shop and ask whoever's there to help out. But it should be no problem. 99% of the time if you say, "Sorry, this courts reserved", people will step off the court. :)

See you all soon, it'll be a great time. :D

First off, I will be able to make it to the GT after all. :D I will provide cold water and sports drinks so you won't need to purchase any drinks. :)

Courts # 8-10 are reserved for BC.

When you enter, please go to the Pro Shop and pay for your entrance fee.

Then proceed/meet at Courts 8-10. I will have "last minute" (stickers) name badges for everyone on the list and bring extra blank ones for others attending that are not on the list.

There will be no need to ask people to leave the courts because I will be doing the enforcing. :p

it was an awesome day of badminton. i arrived around 20 mins late and everybody there already started their games. there are some pretty good players who attended. members from as far as Australia, Toronto, NYC, Boston, Vancouver, Vermont, Japan, France, Montreal attended the BC WC get together. there are also some nice members who attended not to play badminton but instead to just say hi to other members.

there were some really good games played and the level of games were pretty high.

also thanks to those who provided rides for other members, it really made a difference for those who came from abroad or from out of town.

the most special mention is S4MadMan, who despite playing badminton until 6am the very same morning, he decided to attend the get together sharp at 10am, and even brought a truckload (literally) of gatorade and bottled water in an ice tub. not only that, he helped me tremendously by reserving and paying for the courts in advanced, today he even prepared name tags for RSVP'ed members !!! and on top of that, he is such a nice and friendly guy. my hats off to S4MadMan.

after the badminton session, a few of us went to a local Thai restaurant (the same one that ctjcad/Gunawan brought the INA team to) and we chowed down a lot of food.

and thank you all for attending the get-together, it was awesome to be able to meet members and talk and chat about badminton. i had a great time today.

Great Pics, Kwun. Reminds me of our BC gathering in Singapore last year. I see your banner is still in ship-shape condition!

Wonder where it'll be next year? But come 2008, Olympics Beijing is beckoning! Surely, it'll be a good time to return to HK for a visit with friends and relatives. And it may yet be a bigger gathering by then, with the BC China and HK fraternity growing in size. Why, maybe our Vancouver and NY friends may be able to accompany you too. And maybe even James from UK as well. Nice time to meet up with Cheung, Taneepak, et all, with Beijing in the background. :)

I'm sorry I missed you guys Sunday morning. :( My dad had some business to do in Irvine in the morning, and we only brought one car up to the event. I did get to meet kwun though, on top of the BCers I already knew.

Edit: Oops, I met JR too! :)

Wow, fantastic response! With more to come than the current 28, you'll need more courts, S4MadMan. I thought our lady Ruth from IBF Guangzhao TC will also be joining you guys and when the time comes you'll probably exceed 30. I think 4 courts will be in order.

It looks like you all had a great time. I wish I could've been there. Unfortunately, since that was one of the only days with down time during the day, the group I was with wanted to go to Universal studios. Actually, only 1 out of the 5 wanted to go. The others, including me, wanted to go to the tournament. However, the 1 in the group is the non-badminton player and we all felt bad for her because we had been dragging her around all over California to play and watch badminton, including a couple of nights of badminton until 2 and 3 in the morning at San Gabriel. I know, I know, we should've gone Saturday but the other people in my club wanted me to spend that day with them doing some physical stuff that we did in Guangzhou (they didn't want to wake up early in the mornings with me during the rest of the week to do it!).

I did meet Kwun and Frank from the BC. Kwun was just how I pictured him, taking pictures of players and chatting with lots of people. Frank I met in the mornings when I did my work outs in the hotel fitness room. I didn't meet anyone at San Gabriel or OCBC playing though.

Hopefully, another get together will happen and I'll be able to join. Till then ;)

oh yeah, and the training center drills and such from Friday and Saturday will be posted soon. I just gotta get stuff together that have been put on hold for the past 2 months (including getting ready for school which starts in two days).

You you! I'll get you the next time we play hehehe...that was sure fun playing you and Gunawan. Hopefully next time we play I'm not hobbling around that much and am able to help cut off some shots for my partner. All in all it was alot of fun and was great to finally get to meet fellow BCFers in person. Thanks to all who made this possible and to the people who also just showed up to say hi and meet the other members.

:( I left early because I had a baseball game to watch (Redsox-Angels). Too bad we missed so many good games and fun, but we did enjoy the few games we played there. Thank you so much, Dan, for everything you did in organizing the gathering, and of course the fun game we played.

Yes, we had fun. :D There were at least 10 people that left early and didn't into the picture.

Thanks Jump_Smash for playing with us, we had a great time too! It's hard to take too much time to warm up, since there were too many people waiting to play. Hopefully we'll meet you again in the near future for a fair rematch. ;)

RedDog, I was gonna play with you n your hubby, when jump_smash jumped in and paired with cory_price. I'm glad I just watched. Your smash scared me I did'nt play at all.:D You husband asked me to play, but I cant seem to find somebody I can beat except the baby that other girl was carrying. ha ha ha!

I was sort of herded on to the court with you. I don't think blindsposts was too offended in the end.

Which I would like to briefly say thank you to Dan and Kwun for putting the whole thing together. Thank you to everyone that I played with. It was so nice meeting you all. I had fun, though I hadn't played for 3 months before so my game was a little blah that day.

I hadn't even exercised much in the previous 3 months, so I was also very, very sore for the last few days. But after seeing the world championships that day, I am more excited than ever to play some more again. I don't know where I am going to go out in the East hear, in NY where I live. I am trying to find a place, and then if I do, maybe I can get some other people to join a club with me. If not, maybe I will move to Arizona or California. I can't live without my regular dose of badminton!! :)

Thanks Frank, for remembering my name in the photo. It was nice meeting you, and Red Dog and your husband. You both played quite oustanding considering the circumstances we were all thrown in.

Good luck to everyone!

Cory

Hello blindspots ! I saw you in the gym, and you were just sitting there, I felt real bad that you were not able to get on the court. I kept on asking iyang to get you to play, but he said that you did not want to. It's too bad that we didn't get to play together, but it's ok, since you don't live too far from the gym, we can just meet up and play some other time, ok? ;)

That's the way of thinking... :p

Me, too hate the NY living environment (plus no enough badminton support from local government). Maybe we can move together, and share the cost to rent a house next to the gym. :D

No worries jamesshieh88! I am still having a hard time remembering everyone I met

I couldn't get the name tag thing to stick on to me! :) But I gave it a valiant effort. I would love to come back and retrieve it, but moving out there is in the future right now I think, as I may be getting a promotion locally at work. Which is good, but also hurts, because I am having a hard time assuring myself of any place to play my sport come this fall. I haven't yet heard if my old club is starting up again for certain, and if not I don't know where I should go. But I shall prevail!! I hope...

and thank you all for attending the get-together, it was awesome to be able to meet members and talk and chat about badminton. i had a great time today. Thanks for inviting us! It was great to get out and play some badminton in SoCal, even if we had to reserve our own court (no room on the BC courts, unfortunately - lots of people showed up).
