Winex West Can 02-02-2005, 09:46 AM A number of stores are available in Vancouver. You have your usually big box stores like Sport Mart, Sportchek, etc.
Or you could go to specialized stores like Tad's, Racquets & Runners, Abbies or even Impulse Sports in Richmond. ClearOne apparently has some good deals.

I bought mine at ClearOne. I highly recommend the Yonex 89mg. Since putting them on, I haven't got an ankle injury. They are very comfortable shoes. ClearOne also provides lessons but I don't have time to take them.
Note: Buy close-fitting Yonex shoes because you are not buying a walking shoes (bigger size is for walking). Make sure you bring a map if this is your first time visiting ClearOne. It is behind some warehouses.

cappy75 02-10-2005, 05:08 AM Ugh! Impulse Sports?! I went there and the place looked good. Very posh. Unfortunately it seems to carry only the popular racquets and shoes, I don't recall seeing many badminton shoes besides Yonex:(. You definitely pay a premium for stuff there. Racquets & Runners, on the other hand, focus on footwear. Can't go wrong with RNR.

604badder 02-10-2005, 05:49 AM Is Impulse Sports the place inside the new Aberdeen Center?
If it is, then I know what you mean about things being expensive there. The prices are like and extra 20% - 30% markup above all the other badminton stores. Take grip tape (A440) for example, it was $12 bucks at Impuse the last I saw months ago. The usual price I've paid is around $7 or $8. The same markup goes for much of everything else too it seemed.
DarthHowie 02-18-2005, 10:51 PM Although this isn't a local, I go to www.canuckstuff.com to purchase mizuno shoes. They are an authorized mizuno seller. I find they're shoes are more durable and plus they sell their older model shoes for a discounted price.

thanks for the info, I was looking for the Asics Gel Typhoon... no store carries it...
champion_qh 02-20-2005, 02:11 AM I found I had better performance of wearing a running shoe than a badminton shoe:confused:  :D

Don't know where and how often you play but you run the risk of rolling your ankles with running shoes. Badminton shoes are lower to the ground (thinner soles) and have better side support because of the nature of the game.
champion_qh 03-13-2005, 05:31 PM I used to play tennis and I had a tennis shoe. Now, it seemed I played badminton more often than the tennis. Is it good to wear the tennis shoes for playing badminton? I think the characteristics of these two sports are quite similar

Pete LSD 03-13-2005, 05:36 PM The characteristics of badminton and tennis shoes are quite different. For one the soles of badminton shoes aren't as thick as tennis shoes. Hence you get more feel for the ground and better mobility in terms of directional changes. Second badminton shoes are much lighter than tennis shoes.

Super~ME! 04-10-2005, 04:23 PM ...for shoes...i'd recomend Tad's at 8570 Granville. their selection of shoes is the same if not better than most places. their prices are usually the same or lower than the other places...and best of all...they're willing to negotiate...i got my SHB-89MG for i think $95 or $100 or something around there...not too sure because my mom paid:D ...they were originally $120
dustbunny 08-23-2005, 09:59 PM Has anyone seen the asics typhoon, gel-VTR, sensei or any other asics court/volleyball shoes sold in Vancouver?
Thanks in advance :)
cappy75 08-23-2005, 10:15 PM Racquets N Runners along Oak St. and King Edward usually stock a variety of ASICS and Mizuno court shoes. They're really overpriced but that's the only source I know in lower mainland that carries the widest selection of court shoes. I got my last ASIC shoe (Gel VTR) online from an American volleyball website. Had to wait awhile for them to arrive, but they're cheaper even with s&h charges.

PS: Isn't Sensei an ASIC runner shoe?
GTO-demon 08-23-2005, 10:17 PM wouldn't VRC have any?? they have alot of variety of shoes
cappy75 08-23-2005, 10:25 PM Don't think so... they carry the token top of the line Yonex shoes, Victor shoes and squash shoes like the heavier Hi-Tecs. VRC Hovel is pretty small comparing to other stores... it's a pro shop afterall.

You could try Tad's Sporting Goods. Call 604-261-6540 and ask.
cappy75 08-23-2005, 11:31 PM If you wanna go for reasonably priced Yonex and Prince shoes, Tad's the place. They don't stock ASICS or Mizuno though:(.

TitaniumTi 01-02-2006, 12:26 PM hello BCers
I'm trying to search for a place selling court shoes in my range ($90 or below) In Vancouver. Can someone list a few places selling cheap priced court shoes? I'm willing to pay a bit higher as well.

Good Luck!
aL_vin 01-05-2006, 09:21 PM ClearOne. They have lots of variety, ranging in price. Their cheapest, I think, is around $50.
dosun 05-09-2006, 08:57 PM I'm just wondering if anyone knows where to get reasonably priced Yonex courtshoes in Vancouver. Thanks

This is the place but it's already answered if you look up from the previous postings.
dosun 05-10-2006, 06:33 PM Thanks a lot =)
liajy 07-31-2006, 04:16 PM any update on whether anyone has tried the asics gel sensei volleyball shoe for badminton? they look like an interesting alternative to the ole yonex malarkey:cool:
leadfoot 08-13-2006, 12:44 AM Update from previous post about Tad's: I picked up a pair of Asics Gel Power Play shoes that were on sale, so they do have Asics now, but no longer Mizunos. But Asics are a little better than Mizunos. Tad's also has Asics Gel Smash badminton shoes as well.
gumby 12-19-2006, 11:31 AM Absolutely correct! Impulse is a ripoff...
Racquets and Runners and Tad's is the place to go for sure.
Way cheaper and... knowledgeable staff too.
Those clowns at Impulse are terrible especially that skinny manager guy.
Just trying to make the sale.

Totally agreed. Impulse is a complete ripoff. A yonex nanospeed 9000 for 335!! no string. Tad's is around 250 with strings on. Plus impulse charges around 20 dollars for bg 80/85. Stringing service is 16 dollars. It was a good thing my good friend of mine told me about tad's.
gumby 02-01-2007, 01:16 PM I heard somewhere that the store is owned by the owner of the mall.
I wonder what he would think if he knew the management was driving his store into the ground.
Or was getting such a notorious reputation.
Sad...
