I suspect its the fact that certain situations bring out the best in that type of player.... just like when you play a n00bie you dont play your best, you probly can't play your best - but when you play a good player you turn your game up a level or two.

I suggest you read the book:

Mental Toughness Training for sports - by James E. Loehr

What happens under pressure?the question really is what is pressure??one is usually under pressure when something is at stake.ex-if taufik is playing a first round match in a national tournament then there is hardly any pressure.but, when he plays in an olympic final with the weight of the whole country on his shoulders, that is pressure.some players play better under pressure as it brings the best out of them[taufik realised that he was his country's last hope and that got out the best in him inspite of the few initial nerves].and pressure either makes u better or worse.only to a few it hardly makes a difference.few others dont play well under pressure as they start thinking about the result.they lose plot ,commit tactical errors ,then either try to play too safe or play as bad as they could.usually under pressure one would not want long rallies.anyway one cannot generalise pressure.it depends on factors like-which tournament, which position u are playing for your opponent, your current form, and whether u are playing outside or in fornt of ur home crowd.

if u ask me the best way to deal with pressure is to not think about it:cool:
