No NHL this year.

Maybe its a one-off chance for badminton to get its act together and drive to increase exposure in N America.

There's a big vacuum there for exploitation now. Badmitnon can try to grab a piece of the pie!

not that easy. The hockey ladder is very long here. There are AHL, farm teams, juniors, locals, etc. I think badminton associations still have to push badminton to the media if any are to be shown on TV.

Even do I'm 100% pro Badminton here in the US. The thought that the sport of Badminton could become more popular than Hockey is just very unrealistic !!!! Just my 2 cents.

Just finished watching Lacrosse All Star game on NBC. I have never seen lacrosse on prime time TV channel before so I guess without NFL, they are the one of the beneficiary at this time. My opinion in watching this is that Lacrosse is very well packaged. They have player in very professional uniforms and equipments similar to NHL , announcers that know the game and provides excitement, and marketing thats just plain professional. IBF needs to keep their eyes open and start taking notes.

There are 58-60 full time public hockey rinks but only 10 private (real) badminton courts in calgary

Similar situation with Tennis. There are about 150,000 tennis courts in USA. I would say only a handfull of private real badminton courts.

Here is the latest update, with NHL season gone, TV stations have found that best replacement programs are Poker tournaments , which was actually getting higher ratings than NHL games!!!!

Fluke goal gives Sweden 2-1 win over Canada at under-18 hockey
Sat Apr 16, 1:08 PM ET

CESKE BUDEJOVICE, Czech Republic (CP) - Canada learned the hard way just how costly small mistakes can be at the world under-18 hockey championship.

Johan Nilsson caught Canadian goaltender Carey Price napping at 9:58 of the second period, beating him with a weak wrist shot from the sideboards that propelled Sweden to a 2-1 win Saturday

Penalty corners win it for BJSS

BY PETER CHAN
IPOH: Champions Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) showed their prowess in penalty corner executions to crush hosts Anderson 4-1 in their Malaysia Junior Hockey League Division One match at the Azlan Shah Stadium here yesterday.

In fact, all BJSS' goals were scored from penalty corners. Not to be outdone, Anderson's lone reply also came from a similar set piece.

FOILED: Andersonian goalkeeper Mohd Firdaus Ahmad stops an attempt by Bukit Jalil Sports School's Mohd Fitri Abu Bakar (right) during their match in Ipoh yesterday. - STARpic BY SAIFUL BAHRI
Craigh Fernandez (31st minute), Razie Abdul Rahim (38th), Faisal Kamaruddin (57th) and Razali Zulkifli (58th) were on target for BJSS while Amirul Syafiq got the consolation goal for Anderson.

Despite the flattering scoreline, BJSS actually struggled to overcome Anderson, especially in the first half. Even the presence of two ex-Andersonians – Nor Hisham Razali and Razali – failed to spark BJSS into life.

It took BJSS 31 minutes to open accounts when Fernandez deflected a penalty corner hit.

Anderson, however, hit back three minutes later through Amirul.

Just three minutes into the second half, BJSS restored their lead when Razie’s tame push off a penalty corner caught the entire Anderson defence and their goalkeeper Firdaus Ahmad napping.

This is ridiculous. TSN is airing lumberjack competitions.

Let's count the things TSN is airing that really questions they're programming:

WWF (<-- It's like a male soap opera)
poker
billiards
bowling
curling
lumberjack competitions

feel free to add to the list.

spelling bees
firefighter competitions (those these technically do involve an insane amount of physical ability...)
