View Full Version : Where are they now?
I always curious and wonder how are the lifes of the famous badminton players after they retired and where are they and what are they doing? It would be nice someone can share these info(including recent pictures).
Lets begin with Rudy Hartono, I saw him recently at the Indonesia Open Trophy presentation and I was told he's in badminton business. May be someone in Indonesia can provide some useful information about him. Also may be include Lim Swee King, Luis Pongoh, ...(former Indonesia greats)
Recent photo of Hartono in Indoensia Open 2004 MXF Trophy Presentation. He certainly looks good!!!

As mentioned by me yesterday, and requested by someone else who wanted to find out more on what the ex-Indonesian "greats" are doing now, here is my brief information(as translated) from on a report in an Indonesian magazine.
Current players:
Nova Widianto is trying to open up a food business in his hometown of Klaten(in Central Java).
His girlfriend, Eni Widiowaty owns a land i@ Citra Gaden, in Cibubur. Sigit Budiarto has a business of selling and buying large screen TVs. Prior to that he was in a sport-merchandise business with Lioe Tiong Ping under the Fleet brand.
Whilst Candra Wijaya is developing and investing in Teguh Karya Manuggal company, a oil barrel transport for the large Indonesian oil company Pertamina.
Flandy Limpele owns a land, house and cars.
And the current 'bad-boy" OG champ, Taufik Hidayat, owns several lands in East Jakarta(Cibubur area) and currently working with a friend in a contractor business. Add to that he has 2 houses, one of them is the new one given by Sutiyoso as a gift for his OG victory.
Ex players:
Susy Susanti and Alan Budikusuma built and owns a badminton gymnasium, which has 6 courts and around 2,000 meter around the area of Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. The gym is open from morning til late afternoon for educating/training purposes. Whilst at night, they rent out the gym for playing. They also run a sports-merchandising business selling badminton equipments under the brand of Astec. Susy also has her own store in the Cempaka Mas mall, which sells clothings and baby/infant clothings.
Hariyanto Arbi, the player known for his "1,000 watt smash" has teamed up with Fung Permadi and Wahyu Agung since 2002 under the brand of Fly Power(Yes, he gave me one of his sampled shirt after his recent trip the U.S. to play in the U.S. Open). The company manufactures/sells racquets, socks, shoes, t-shirts/shirts, racquet bags and other items.
Denny Kantono and Antonius Budi Ariantho are coaches for Djarum club in Jakarta
Ricky Soebagja has a company which deals with event organization and advertising. His company's name is Ras Putera Pratama.
Hermawan Susanto has a health-related business in Kelapa Gading/North Jakarta.
Marleve Mainaky owns a sports store and a pharmacy store in Cibubur, East
Jakarta.
As for Hendrawan, along as being the Women Single's coach in Pelatnas, he is a Vice Director of an oil lubricant company Top 1
And of course you guys know the other ex-national players who have went overseas to become coaches(ie. Rexy Mainaky in England, Tony G./Halim H./Etty Tantri in U.S. and Ardy Wiranata who is coaching in Canada. I met him around 2001-2002 whilst stopping by in U.S. on the way to Canada, he sure looks like as if he has gain a few pounds. How should I say it, but he's actually my wife's cousin's long distance cousin-hehe, if you guys know understand that wording)..:P.
Anyway, that's all i can gather at this time about what the ex and current players are doing and where are they now.

There is no such of minister in Indonesia.
What Indonesia has is Department of Religion. The minister self is a moslem.
Rudy Gunawan is a christian.
I don't think Indonesia will have a church minister since Indonesia is the largest moslem country.
