Being a lifelong follower of the NBA and NFL and sometime follower of American baseball it occurs to me that the sport of badminton could benefit from the type of statistics keeping they have in these sports.
When you look at the the type of statistics that they keep in those sports you can see their obvious superiority over what they have in the IBF portal. Another thing that I would like to point out is that sports fans like their statistics. It is part and parcel of following a sport.
To illustrate, my NBA stats CD shows me the lifetime scoring, rebounding, shooting percentage, etc. of players. Now it may not seem like much but I know that quite a few NBA fans actually follow these stats ( myself included ). Stats help in keeping interest in players and the sport.
As such I believe that there should be certain changes in the statistical keeping within the IBF. Why not include players winning percentages within the year? As for lifetime records, maybe they could make a CD that has lifetime winning percentages, yearly records and the like. They could sell these CD's on the website. Believe me there is a market. Of course not every player should be included, maybe those who reached the top 30 or so in rankings or whatever is materially feasible as well as those who have won grand prix or major ibf sponsored tournaments. Included in this CD would be a record of grand prix and major tournament winners.
As a final note, I am quite concerned with the ranking system as we have it today. You can be number one without winning a single tournament for the year. This, I believe is a situation that needs to be rectified.
Thank you for bearing with me.
