Just wondering what do you guys eat before a badminton session (2 hours)? I don't play competitively but am quite competitive in a local club.

I find I play better when I'm hungry (last meal about 4 hours before) for some reason. I'm leaping and smashing (and they're going in) and generally light on my feet.

However, when I eat 2 hours or less before my session, I'm slow and lethargic (eventhough I don't feel any different) and even my drop shots don't have that crisp feel.

Does what and when you eat actually make a diff or do I just suck really badly and am having too many off days?

i find that im better when im hungry too... well, not THAT hungry but maybe just a little...
i think it's because im lighter when im hungry than the time when im full... also, i think i do better when i go to the bathroom right before i play to "discharge my waste" so that i feel relieved... hahahahahaha
anyways, i think it's because it's after your food is digested and your energy you got from your food is ready to be put into good use!!
when im full, i just don't want to move... hahaha

If I was playing in the morning, I'd eat couple of slices of toast, 2 - 3 eggs and drink a couple of glasses of juice.

If I was playing in the afternoon after lunch, I'd eat some rice with vege and drink juice.

If I was playing in the evening, for tea I'd have 2 - 3 rolls with some juice and prolly eat bananas or something.

Cheers

P.S Bear in mind I play 1 hour after eating :)

Bananas are great for you before a game and usually if I see one, I eat it around 15-40 mins before the session. Also, if you're not playing all the time out of 3 hours, get a gatorade from the vending machine. I find that sports drink not only quench thirst but hunger as well. Don't stuff yourself right before a game but don't starve yourself either. Eat a fair meal around 45-60 mins before a game. Hmm i see that I only wrote what is common sense... Remember: BANANAS are the KEY ^^:p

Well I'm one of those people who doesnt like to eat before I play. On match nights I tend to make sure I get up to have breakfast and I always have scrambled egg on toast for lunch. This tends to keep me going through my matches.

If you dont like to eat before matches load up on carbs throughout the day. It seems to work for me. ;)

A coach once told me to eat 2-3 hours before a match, and include pasta in the meal....something about a better source, because the energy is retained in your body. I was also told to avoid chocolate bars or sweets before or during a match...as to avoid those sugar lows 10-15mins afterwards. Didn't eat during matches...and would only drink little water during the game just to wet the mouth a bit... and when all the matches were done, gatorade/water, banana (for potassium) and a salty snack ( I choose potato chips).

hope that helps

Often before marathons, athletes would carbo-load... They would eat alot of carbohydrates, this provides alot of energy, and stores it as fat, when the energy isn't consumed. Sugary products only provide a boost of energy and then the energy is all drained.
