Would you share what is the BP of your Ti-10 3rd gen? I have both 2nd (yellow) and 3rd (purple), the BP (without overgrip & string) of yellow one is 2900 mm and the purple one is 2850 mm. The purple is stiffer than the yellow which is good for fast swing and wristy player. How's the Ti-10 power compare to your previous AT 900 T and other YY rackets?

hi erique .. i dunno the BP of both my Ti10s (both 3rd gen) as i am not into technical aspects of rackets .. i just go by feel :)
i can generate much more power from the ti10 compared to the at900t .. maybe its becoz of my techniques .. the at900t however is slightly better when playing at a slower pace which i am not quite used to .. better control i suppose .. but i have to say the at900t was not strung at a tension which i liked (was quoted 25lbs but feels more like 22-23lbs) .. both my ti10s are at 26-27lbs using ashaway flex .. i prefer micropower but couldnt find it ..
one of the closer YY rackets i feels would be the cab21sp (not special) except that the cab21sp has a smaller sweet spot and lesser power ... but the feel is close to the ti10 IMO ..

Thanks allanQ, one more question though, which one do you feel more head heavy? Ti-10 or At 900 T? It seems that Ti -10 suits you perfectly since you are fast swing player.

at900t is definitely more head heavy without a doubt .. and not really preferable in fast double matches for me altho i do have it ..

Don't try to brake the follow through too much, or you will injure your wrist.:D
But so far for me, the Ti10 is still intact after play.
In theory, 3rd Gen ti-10 should be more durable due to ultra high modulus graphite, slightly stiffer and doesn't have the naked 'Ti-mesh' composite of the 2nd Gen. Paint quality of 3rd gen is better than 2nd gen.

Hehehe...wrong brake lah...:o
Btw...what's ur string tension? Yonex recomend max up to 22lbs only but i am use to play with 26lbs. Will it effect my Ti10 durability if i put up to that tension?

me just got a new 3rd gen purple Ti-10 & i'm loving it!
it's definitely better than my decade old Carbonex 21 SP. Hehe..only complaint is that i should have strung it at a higher tension. 24lbs on BG66 seems insufficient for me :(

24lbs. I dunno, it depends on the skill of the stringer. Make sure, the stringer has a good reputation. ;)

For sure 3rd Gen is more durable, the 2nd gen chips easily, especially the white paint.

There's no way to know the durabilty unless you are wiling to sacrifice the 2 racquets and subject it to compression forces using e.g. Instron machine and see how many Newtons it takes to break the racquet.
Then you can say X breaks at 100N and Y breaks at 90N, therefore X is more durable than Y. :D
Or try asking the manufacturer [Yonex] for their specs or durability data?

AFAIK, 2nd and 3rd gen both also not durable. if want durable better get some other non yonex racket as replacement ie. victor brave sword 09, fleet woven 888, wilson ktour, rsl diamond x3, apacs amp90, kason tsf 300... they all are good rackets and can string at high tension with official guaranty

I would just like to say many thanks to all who posted their views about the Ti10 as I was sitting on the fence on whether to purchase it... info here is really informative and helpful. Really appreciate it!
Actually I am planning to get both the 2nd and 3rd gen + the Armortec 700 Ltd, 3 rackets together at one go from my regular badminton shop, Gala Sports, Queensway. They will give me MORE discounts this way I reckon and besides I already bought 3 rackets from them this year in a span of 6 weeks hehe.. 2 actually as the 3rd one was a gift but bought from them also (ArcSaber10, NanoSpeed 9900, Armortec 900 Power).
They have both the 2nd gen and 3rd gen Ti10 on sale there.. both at the same price. Prior to reading this thread I managed to have a feel of both of them. Felt that the 2nd gen yellow is head heavier than the 3rd gen purple. Actual playability of the rackets will be at the courts when I have them in my possession. Cosmetics wise the purple is more appealing otherwise they looks the same with different colours..
Now I have to look for reviews here about the Armortec 700 Ltd..

i have ti-10 3rd gen, 3UG5, it's feels very fast on defense yet able to give good power for smashes, while i haven't tried a G4 before, i do know that if i use 2 layers of grip, there is less power from smashes. Thinner grip works for me.

hey there, i see you have quite a collection. which one do you usually play with out of the arc10, ns9.9k, at900p? the ti10 (2nd/3rd) dont seem to fit into the arc10 as the arc10 is less stiff, bigger framed, and heavier. and at900p is head heavy and the new ti10s are head light (but it feels more balanced)
other than collecting wouldnt you prefer to buy a racket that you are familiar and comfortable with? :D

They quoted me $175 each for both 2nd & 3rd gen incl. strings (excl high-end, high-end will have to top-up a bit) and any grip in the shop. As a regular customer I will probably get lower than that.. not sure what price they will offer for new customers.
Anyway when I go there I buy a whole bunch of things and they will give discounts for individual items and after totalling it up will give me further discounts. Probably also I pay in cash and do not use my credit cards or NETS. I help them defray the transaction cost and they past on the savings to me.
I go back to them because they give me good service and also importantly how they string my rackets and the priority they give to me. I have been to quite a few shops around Singapore and somehow the way the propreitor string the rackets just puts me off.

Currently using NS9900 alot while warming up with AT900P. Couple of weeks back ArcSaber 10. I will get back to you when I have the chance to play with the Ti10s.
Ummm I would not consider myself a collector.. I will when I buy the entire range of Yonex rackets ;)
All my life I have only used Yonex rackets and never had the inclination of using other brands. Rackets in the past I used and was comfortable with are out of production so I am trying the 'later' model Yonex rackets now.

Just got both my 2nd and 3rd gen Ti10 last week both 3UG5.
Not sure what other specs are available in Queensway but I was told by the staff where I bought my rackets that if you need other specs that is not in stock they can order it for you. Was also informed that the 2Us are rare and that Yonex manufactures something like one out of every hundred in a batch.
Those looking for the 2nd gen try to get them quick as very soon the scarcity of the rackets will be even more acute.
I got a Yonex racket chart here compliments from Sports Life (Yonex showroom in Far East Plaza) and it listed the current 3rd gen Ti 10 comes in 2U and 3U. No idea for 2nd gen if it comes in 2U. It also listed the Titanium 10 "For advanced players looking for ultimate control & solid feeling".
Yonex rating Ti10: F5, P5, C5
Flex: Stiff F5 <---> F1 Flexible
Power: Excellent P5 <---> P1 Medium
Control: Excellent C5 <---> C1 Medium

i own ti-10 1stgen pre2004 production and a 3rdgen.
3rdgen is very flex and headlight comparing to 1stgen, feel like they are completely different rackets.
1stgen feels like mp100 BUT headheavier and only a little bit more flexy.

hm... that's strange indeed, ti-10 seems to have so much variations.
in this light, i tried out friend's 3rdgen 3u, it seems 1 level stiffer and overall weight heavier, but still nowhere near 1stgen.
as i own two identical spec AT900Ps (even same year), one is drastically overall heavier, headheavier than another.

After reading so many +ve comments about Ti10, I have decided to purchase a Ti10 2nd Gen.
Racquet is awesome. Very powerful..! :)
However, there seems to be 3 small holes on the buttcap of the racquet.
Only notice this hole thing when I got back home after the purchase.
I call up the shop owner and she said it's just tiny holes and the racquet has no problem.
My concern is whether if this is a rejected or defective Ti10?
Can anyone please help explain why got these holes?:confused::confused:

Did you found the meaning of the three (3) holes at the base of the handle? As it has minor importance when it can be replaced easily. Is it some kind of "pressure relief valve" or some "weight reducing tactic"? I think only the main designers and engineers of YY in Japan could give credible answers.

Nope, until now the 3 small holes in the buttcap is still an unsolved mystery for me.

As a matter of fact Ranking Sports had a couple of them. A few months back, Jenny, the staff-in-charge of the sports section there showed me the whole lot and offered them to me. I think she had about five or six of them then. I was tempted but as I already owned one and I am not a collector of multiple same racquets, I declined. However, I got my friend to buy one as he was looking for a racquet.
A couple weeks later I went there again looking at the AT800 Off and Def, she told me she sold all of the Ti10s 2nd gen.
She also had a similar small batch of 'discontinued model' order for the Cab30Ms. I bought my Cab30Ms from her.

No wonder the one with 3-holes felt so different from the other one.
Coz both the racquets are strung with BG-65Ti at 25lbs (and the stringing was done in the same shop by the same person)
And also both are 3UG4.
I was very concerned that 3-holes one could be a rejected racquet because it felt very different.
It is very much stiffer and the difference is quite significant.
If what u say is true, probably the 3-holes type are specially modified or rather manufactured to a different specification.

2nd Gen got a very solid feel to it though it's fragile as commented by some. Mine hasn't broke yet
3rd Gen got a very solid feel too as mine is 2U and the stiffness is comparable with 1st Gen. More durable I believe as mine had a major clash and hasn't broke.
1st Gen is hard to find now and some people say it rocks. I never had tried it so I can't really comment on it.

bro Yonexman another question TI!0 highest tension is ??
errr...up to 26 lb?
anything more than 26 lb, I think you are risking your Ti 10 frame
the string might cut through the grommet and "eat" into the frame
besides, you need an experienced stringer to perform high tension stringing to prevent damage to your frame ;)
you might said why pro can string up to 30 lb? :p
because as you said, pro...man...they have professional stringer, they have sponsor, they have few dozen racket as spare :D

ooops! i should have said the ideal tensions not highest hahaha ....:)forgive my sillyness
ideal tension would be depend on you....
that's my ideal tension, national team player would prefer to string 30ish
depend on player really...
-----------------------------------------------------
it's recommended stringing tech by yonex... yonexman...
http://www.yonex.com/badminton/stringing_instructions/index.html
i used on all of my raquet. imo 4 knot hold tension longer.
when using 2 knot i need to correct my string after big smash cause the string moved... usually when u strung ur rackey @ 29 with 2 knot,
after 1 game or so ur tension will go down...
4 knot stringing will provide stability because the main and crosses independently strung (CMIIW)

if you are power player you will feel more comfortable with bigger grip.
im using G5 + i remove original grip to make my grip smaller.
i do this for speed, it's easier to move my hand position with smaller grip. drive and net, backhand forehand.

my racket strung @ stadium boxhill. they're ok.. not too bad.

tckang, BBEsports wants to charge 160RMB for postage and then 6.5% extra for paypal and 'handling' fee. OUTRAGEOUS! doesn't work out that worth it in the end. do you know how much postage to Aus would cost?
Here is some guideline to you regarding the shipping cost.
http://www.ems.com.cn/serviceguide/e-zi-fei-biao-zhun.html
It is paypal wan to charge you 6.5% for the transfer fee. I'm have my order shipped to Singapore previously. The shipping cost is US30 and handling charge is 4%.
Either you are get more thing to ship together and enjoy the cheaper shipping cost for subsequent 500g. :)

There are different charges for different currency. You can double confirm it at ur australia paypal page.
Don't think malaysia have anymore probably. Just phone AJ this week and out of stock for long time. Price of Yonex racket is going to increase soon.

11-18-2009, 07:51 PM
why are the prices going up?
1) There are crazy people like tckang and adonis and etc who buy rackets like nobody's business. Hence Evil empire aka Yonex know there is demand :D :D :D :D :D
2) USD, RMB, Yen ever complicated currency exchange , and controversy, conspiracy relationship causes this partly. (As per Malaysian side of excuse for the price increase - OH RM down, Yen up. So increase lor)
3) Many other propable excuse they can think off. Afgan war, H1N1, Nano material gone up, bla bla bla bla .....IS there a need for a valid reason why racket price increase??? :p
Joke aside, price hike for Malaysia Yonex racket is due to RM-Yen exchange rates. This is the answer given by Pertama, and AJ.
But then again, why racket price for old racket also got affected by exchange rate????? (At least AJ is kind enough to sell Old rackets at OLD price)

to me, i think the cosmetics of Ti 10 3rd was better than 2nd, as you turn the racket, suddenly it is purple and suddenly it is black, the paint job was just nice ;)

Finally had a chance to play with the new Ti-10. I've played with both the 1st and 2nd gen (both 3U/G5) and I must say that the 3rd gen is really good. Its fast and powerful! Comparable in terms of power with the 1st gen but faster and easier to wield. I think I finally found a good racket to replace my beloved MP99 :) Even though the racket was not strung with my usual BG80, it was excellent.

are you saying it's better than the first 2 gens?
ryim_
11-22-2009, 06:49 AM
I like it better than the 2nd gen and largely due to the fact that I have played with it up until recently. The 1st gen was quite a while ago but I can say this:
- stiffness, and power the 3rd gen is pretty close to the 1st gen
- the 3rd gen is faster on defence
- the 1st gen was head heavier

totally agree, i dont know what 2nd gen is great for even though i have one of each generation.. i find it kind of hard to control with the 2nd gen..
but i really like the feeling of the 1st gen! gives you the raw power and some control :):)

I don't agree because unless you're looking to 'collect' rather than play with it. I see the 3rd gen as being a better racket overall and since its more affordable, that is a better choice.

Sure, you pay for what you think it is fair. In your case, you feel that all the 3 generation of Ti10 are the same, so you won't pay a premium.
But the buyers who specifically look for the 1st Gen Ti10, I feel they should be prepared to pay a premium for a racquet which is no longer in production. It is supply and demand and for someone to think that a fair value is the selling price of the 3rd Gen Ti10, well..........

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. I didn't say they were the same. In fact. they're quite different and worth much more than both the first and second generation ti-10. And also, for a racket such as the ti-10 (1st gen), the price is pretty subjective in that there isn't a benchmark to measure how much its worth. However, I am just saying that in my opinion, its not worth buying such a racket. I am sure most if not all of us would jump all over the first gen if the price is still around the price of a 3rd gen.

I actually wonder (humbly speaking) if those who are currently die-hard trying to collect the Ti-10 1st gen have actually played with the racquet before. There is a very fine line which divides between those who "collect to play" compared to those who "collect to collect".
IMHO not many people can actually adjust to the stiffness and that "magnum recoil" of the Ti-10 1st gen.

Hard to say, lots of users in HK and I've seen them clash and I haven't seen them break yet (perhaps the difference in string tension?). Same with the second gen but overall, the 1st gen is the most durable for sure.

I was just wondering, why does the 2U Ti-10 1st gen worth a lot more money than the 3U version especially for collection purposes?

@Blitzzards
2U version of Ti.10 is quite rare; provided 2nd gen and 1st gen of Ti.10 which are quite rare nowadays, so the price of 2U version of this respective generation is increasing as well..
Yonex produces smaller number of 2U version as compared to its brother, 3U.
For example: In producing 50 pieces 3U rackets, YY will only produce 1 piece of 2U racket. so the ratio is like 1 : 50.
2U racket is said to be more powerful compared to the 3U.
more solid build, due to denser material incorporated in it.

Thanks for the information, Licin. I never knew this fact actually existed. As an owner of two 2U 1st gen Ti-10s what I can say about the racquet is that it probably packs slightly more power than the other racquets but the reason for that IMHO is due to the very stiff overall feel of the racquet. There is also a "magnum recoil" which I stated above that comes from the impact of smashes with the racquet.
Although the most significant thing I want to point out in regards to the racquet's performance is that the 2U version does feel very hard and stiff on impact and with the 90g plus weight it may not be the best racquet to actually use.

That is the reason why Yonex only produces small amount of 2U rackets, it is not user friendly.:p

suprised. of how high tension are they strung at normally? those i have seen normally at 26-28. and they clashed with other brand racket. possible wat u guys hav in hk not d same with those we can get here? ti10 3rd gen is a good buy at ard rm500 but from those i have seen, a player may need half a dozen of them:(.

Honestly, I don't know how high the rackets were strung at but the ones I have are at 26lbs. I'm sure the rackets are the same but perhaps there are variations in different batches, who knows. Or maybe, players in Hong Kong don't hit as hard :p

ryim,
in the last clash i have seen. really light (unless the shuttlers have kind of 'inner qi' like in kungfu movie) clash. both like went to block (not drive) a smash. the other racket survived the clash without a paint chip. i had a mp66 ended up the same but i guess it was notorious for tat.

I've seen many clashes (light and hard) and they seem to be okay. Maybe some of them were 2Us, I really can't comment because I was just watching from the adjacent court. I haven't read much about durability problems from these new ti-10s. Perhaps other BCF members can tell us more if there are such issues with the racket.

hay every body, I'm tryn yo get myself a yonex ti10 for along time(its like a dream racquet 4 me..!)but i wasn't able 2 find one ! now in my local sports(they r YY dealers in our area) shop i came across a yonex ti10(gen lll), and I might get it for around ~$90-95......hehe...oks here is the question, should i get the 3U version thats ready available, or should i go for a 2U , in shop owners words might be available with in a month or so???......from wat i read in the forum, 2U is very powerful, but a bit lagging in defense(like a good 2U should:D), so i'm tempted to get a 3U..I use 24-25LBS tension when using BG6,and 1-2 lbs more if goin for any string thicker than that.(BG65/80)... currently playn with Armortec 50 with BP around 305~310mm(will be selling it). also has a cab 20sp(will not sell!!!), i like it because of its slim shaft....

Ask yourself this question: will you prefer the racquet slightly heavier or slightly lighter? The main difference between 2U and 3U is only just about 5g anyway. Some people prefer 2U because it feels more solid and "fuller with mass" while some prefer 3U because it doens't weigh as much especially when they start tiring themselves halfway through their games.

2U is only powerful if you can wield it. most players would be better off with the 3U in my opinion.

yup ...!I am more indented to get 3u actually...cauz this racquet is a bit unusual with long shaft n all:rolleyes:...i bet it will be quite difficult to retrieve the shuttle played close to body by opponent!!!but hey thats wat makes this baby different....!!!:D
and one more thing guys , pls input to the string tension factor i mentioned in my earlier post ...does 26-27 lbs seem too high for Ti10(gen lll)????minimum string tension that i can adapt to is about 25LBs.....

I broke 5 Ti-10s in 2 years. They are extremely nice to play with but just not worth the effort and money

All strung at 26lbs using BG80, one string / knot method
1 of them my fault - hit the floor while rescuing a shuttle in a competition.. the racket broke into 2 pieces and everyone just watched in awe :p. Having said that, I've had similar accidents in a few other rackets and they were all fine.
The other 4 all cracked at different places of the frame.

Hi,
Just to share some bad experience with the badminton shop at Queensway. I went to restring my racket ($16 with Yonex BG66) at Queensway last week. On the following day, the recket was collected. Just played for few strokes (less than 5 minutes), the string broke. I went back to the same shop and check with them. The shop owner said it is caused by player's mis-hit, so I paid again and made the new string with them. After collected the racket and played two days later, the same thing happened and the string broke again after a few strokes. So I went back to the shop, the shop owner said again it caused by mis-hit, the player must be blamed. So I did not restring the third times with the shop. When I wanted to take photo of the shop, the owner speaks Hokkien 4 letters dirty words. The shop name is:

Why are you posting this in a thread about the Ti-10 racket? Also, if you don't like his stringing then don't use him....

does this have anything to do with the Ti-10? or was that the racket you were using?
