Yes Shoji is in good form and may spring a surpise. Hafiz must not take the proceedings lightly and lose focus if he wants to revenge his German loss to Lin Dan. To defeat the pernicious and highly seasoned K Jonassen by Shoji is no mean task.

My predictions are not far away. The higher ranked players look good to advance on paper. Sairul Amar Ayub may give Lee Hyun Il a good fight before bowing down.The match between Chen Hong and Shon may go either way and Bao has to be wary of Ahn Hyun Suk, the Korean Open quater finalist. It's Li Mao vs Misbun in the match between Kuan BH and Lee CW . Malaysian players do well so far and should have not less than 3 players in the quaterfinals, quite an achievement after the appointment of KH Yap as the chiefcoach.

Obviously his income has suffered too and now that he is in a 'different camp' from Hafiz, being trained by new Chinese coach Li Mao instead of Misbun, he has to prove that he has benefitted from Li's coaching.

Remember, Lee Chong Wei, now also trained by Li, recently lost (for the first time) to Hafiz in the German Open and you can't afford to have another of Li's top trainees lose to Hafiz again. 'Face' and honour is very much a part of a man's reputation in this part of the world. :D

1. Xiexienfang was a doubles specialist. WJC and Runner-up in WD & XD respectively in WJC 2000 and 4 years later she is China's top WS player.

2. Wang Rong was twice topseed in the WJC but lost one final and earlier in the 2nd try. Her record in the senior ranks is indifferent - worse than Chen Li.

3. Lee Chong Wei is in the right company among the elite.He was the Fourth Man in the 2000 WJC SF, beaten by Kuncorro (then only 15+) while Lin fell to Boa who then took out Kuncorro. Remember Khoo Kay Kim and you will know why LCW is star quality.

4. Du Jing and Yu Yang are both WJC in WD/XD though with different partners in 2002 (2004?)

That is not the only one conclusion to draw from the outcome. The other as that there is a changing of the guards and Robertson/Emms, Zhang/Gao are also feeling the heat. The latter survived, but I am afraid I think that last set is a fix. Watch out for the MD where Sang/Zheng face Xie & Partner. Robertson/Emms are at least having to battle and perhaps hope to get a 3rd set and win it. Y:confused:

i wouldn't really say it was so much bias as blindness.
what you have to take into account with linejudges in england is that they give their time for free and in copious amounts. There aren't many of them so they usually get very little rest, having to concentrate through that many games really does take it's toll on your eyes and your mind.

I'm sure all the line judges at the all england just say what see. even if what they see isn't always right...

don't knock 'em down guys, if you live in the uk and you've got the time you should be volunteering to do it.

They had a very bad start!
They seem to have started the second game on better basis with a 4-1 lead for the moment...

I know how difficult it can be, I did some line judging at the European Juniors in Glasgow in 1999. It was good to get in free, but I spent most of the time praying the shuttle wouldn't come near my line! I imagine its even harder at this level. But some of the calls I've seen stick in my mind for being quite obvious ones.

I love it on the sky coverage when there's a dodgy call - Gill Clark always just says something like "Well now"!

I saw a few myself yesterday:

Geoff Bellingham was quite unhappy with a few calls in his match against Aamir Ghaffar, but they were baselilne calls and I couldn't tell whether they were in or out from where I was.

It looked to me like Lee Hyun Il had a shuttle called in that was clearly out against Xia,
[edit - the shuttle was landing on Lee's side of the court]
and something similar in Wong Choong Hann's match.

But I couldn't say whether the calls were biased or mistakes.

I hope that Alven/Luluk will take the 2nd and the 3rd set. They lead 8-3 now.

Yes, I agree. It is a daft question :) The seedings are based on rankings, and Wright/Tripp are simply ranked higher. If the seedings were based on current strength, Du/Yu would definitely have been seeded (something like 4th or 5th).

I think you call it the honeymoon period, and it works three ways. 1.The players want to work hard for their new coach so they will like them, and pick them 2.The new input/different methods of training can freshen up the player and further motivate him. 3. The coach wants to show the players he can help them, so gives them a feel good factor.

In this case malaysia have No.4 as they have two coaches competing, so further enhancing motivation (of both coach and players)
