Han 03-09-2005, 11:43 PM No one is providing the in depth analysis/matchup of day 2? Han 03-09-2005, 11:57 PM Well, dirty job, somebody has to do it :) , so my pick on MS: LIN Dan vs Aamir GHAFFAR ------------------>Lin Dan; LEE Hyun-Il vs Sairul Amar AYOB ------------->Ayob; Shoji SATO vs Muhammad Hafiz -------------->Hafiz; LIAO Sheng-Shiun vs WONG Choong Hann ---->Wong; AHN Hyun-Suk vs BAO Chunlai --------------->Boa; SHON Seung-Mo vs CHEN Hong -------------->Close call; KUAN Beng Hong vs LEE Chong Wei ----------->Lee; Muhammad Roslin HASHIM vs Peter GADE ------>Peter; **The match of the day : SHON Seung-Mo vs CHEN Hong; Anatolii 03-10-2005, 12:07 AM i see you haven't included the 'in depth analysis', Han :D.. but we'll leave that to hcyong shan't we ? ;) quite predictable.. my prediction's pretty much the same except that i think lee hyun-il would win his match. i just hope they won't spring anymore surprises on me.. i don't think my heart will be able to take news like 'lindan lost to ghaffar' .. hcyong 03-10-2005, 12:12 AM The match of the day I think is Shoji Sato v Hafiz Hashim. I think Chen Hong will have a straightforward win over Shon. We should also keep an eye on Ahn Hyun-Suk. And I think your prediction of an Ayob win is gutsy but may just be right. hcyong 03-10-2005, 12:47 AM Interesting matches in the WS, Wong Mew Choo v Cheng Shao-Chieh Jun Jae-Youn v Tine Rasmussen (match of the day) Wang Rong v Xu Huaiwen Kaori Mori v Pi Hongyan Possible interesting last 16 matchups (also held today) Gong Ruina v Mia Audina Eriko Hirose v Tao Jie Loh 03-10-2005, 01:17 AM The match of the day I think is Shoji Sato v Hafiz Hashim. I think Chen Hong will have a straightforward win over Shon. We should also keep an eye on Ahn Hyun-Suk. And I think your prediction of an Ayob win is gutsy but may just be right. Yes Shoji is in good form and may spring a surpise. Hafiz must not take the proceedings lightly and lose focus if he wants to revenge his German loss to Lin Dan. To defeat the pernicious and highly seasoned K Jonassen by Shoji is no mean task. Not so easy for Chen Hong though as he was beaten by Shon in Athens, albeit that Shon is still a little rusty. Well Anatolli, Lin Dan was blowing hot and cold and was drawn into a 3-gamer by the Dane, Kasper in Round 2. Remember he was also surprisingly ousted by Ronald Susilo at Athens in the first round. So, I have to train my heart not ot palpitate too much if Lin should disappoint again! :D So much has to depend on the player's form, mental and physical condition during the match itself. A distraction here and there, a loss of focus which was not checked in time, the inability to change strategy and tactics to overcome a losing streak, etc, may well cause the downfall of the best, at least on paper. hcyong 03-10-2005, 01:19 AM MD provide lots of exciting matches today Ong Soon Hock/Tan Bin Shen v Jeon Jun-Bum/Lee Yong-Dae Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng v Chew Choon Eng/Choong Tan Fook Han Sang-Hoon/Hwang Ji-Man v Chan Chong Ming/Koo Kien Keat Guo Zhendong/Xie Zhongbo v Sang Yang/Zheng Bo Howard Bach/Tony Gunawan v Sigit/Chandra Jung Jae-Sung/Lee Jae-Jin v Luluk/Alven (match of the day) Prediction on quarterfinalists Eriksen/Lundgaard Ha Tae-Kwon/Yim Bang-Eun Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng Flandi/Eng Hian Chan Chong Ming/Koo Kien Keat (or Sang/Zheng) Paaske/Rasmussen Laybourn/Steffensen Chandra/Sigit hcyong 03-10-2005, 01:24 AM In the XD, Eriksen/Schjoldager v Laybourn/Rytter Zhang Jun/Gao Ling v Xie Zhongbo/Yu Yang Anggun/Yunita v Mogensen/Olsen Lee Jae-Jin/Lee Hyo-Jung v Robertson/Blair (match of the day) The rest should go according to seeding. hcyong 03-10-2005, 01:29 AM For the WD, I think the seeded players will get to the Qfinals except for 8th-seeded locals Tripp/Wright who are unlucky to have Du Jing/Yu Yang drawn into their portion Olsen/Schjoldager could face stiff resistance in both the first two rounds to be played today. Anatolii 03-10-2005, 01:37 AM Well Anatolli, Lin Dan was blowing hot and cold and was drawn into a 3-gamer by the Dane, Kasper in Round 2. Remember he was also surprisingly ousted by Ronald Susilo at Athens in the first round. So, I have to train my heart not ot palpitate too much if Lin should disappoint again! :D i know i know.. :( ..like my practical ex-chemistry teacher always said: "prepare for the worst, just hope for the best".. i guess the worst would be something like: none o chinese MS advanced to QF. .. if i can prepare myself for That, i'll be ready for anything. i should stop thinking such dark thoughts. Anatolii 03-10-2005, 01:40 AM Lee Jae-Jin/Lee Hyo-Jung v Robertson/Blair (match of the day) surely it's Emms instead of Blair ;) happy go lucky 03-10-2005, 02:36 AM Too bad, Kenneth Jonasson lost. Now that he is gone, i see a quarterfinal matchup between WCH and Hafiz Hashim. I hope WCH does not delibarately lost to Hafiz Hashim, due to the latter's low ranking. Ok i could be wrong, we shall see ;)Yes Shoji is in good form and may spring a surpise. The higher ranked players look good to advance on paper. Sairul Amar Ayub may give Lee Hyun Il a good fight before bowing down. The match between Chen Hong and Shon may go either way and Bao has to be wary of Ahn Hyun Suk, the Korean Open quater finalist. It's Li Mao vs Misbun in the match between Kuan BH and Lee CW . Malaysian players do well so far and should have not less than 3 players in the quaterfinals, quite an achievement after the appointment of KH Yap as the chiefcoach. Well, dirty job, somebody has to do it :) , so my pick on MS: LIN Dan vs Aamir GHAFFAR ------------------>Lin Dan; LEE Hyun-Il vs Sairul Amar AYOB ------------->Ayob; Shoji SATO vs Muhammad Hafiz -------------->Hafiz; LIAO Sheng-Shiun vs WONG Choong Hann ---->Wong; AHN Hyun-Suk vs BAO Chunlai --------------->Boa; SHON Seung-Mo vs CHEN Hong -------------->Close call; KUAN Beng Hong vs LEE Chong Wei ----------->Lee; Muhammad Roslin HASHIM vs Peter GADE ------>Peter; **The match of the day : SHON Seung-Mo vs CHEN Hong; Loh 03-10-2005, 02:54 AM Too bad, Kenneth Jonasson lost. Now that he is gone, i see a quarterfinal matchup between WCH and Hafiz Hashim. I hope WCH does not delibarately lost to Hafiz Hashim, due to the latter's low ranking. Ok i could be wrong, we shall see ;) I think to 'deliberately lose to Hafiz' must not, and cannot, be the arrangement as WCH has much to lose himself. He is suffering from a loss of confidence for not being to win the majors for sometime now. His ranking has suffered from being WR No.1 at one time. Obviously his income has suffered too and now that he is in a 'different camp' from Hafiz, being trained by new Chinese coach Li Mao instead of Misbun, he has to prove that he has benefitted from Li's coaching. Remember, Lee Chong Wei, now also trained by Li, recently lost (for the first time) to Hafiz in the German Open and you can't afford to have another of Li's top trainees lose to Hafiz again. 'Face' and honour is very much a part of a man's reputation in this part of the world. :D other 03-10-2005, 03:07 AM mmm....shon has done the double over chen hong in the wc03 and olympics 04....i hope chen can win here at the ae05:) seven 03-10-2005, 03:17 AM mmm....shon has done the double over chen hong in the wc03 and olympics 04....i hope chen can win here at the ae05:) Yes, Shon has been rather successful against Chen Hong in the past years : PLAYER HEAD-TO-HEAD SHON Seung Mo (http://www.worldbadminton.net/Portal/desktopmodules/biography.asp?pnumber=10183&firstrec=0&recno=1&recs=1&searchplayernumber=10183) 3 - 2 CHEN Hong (http://www.worldbadminton.net/Portal/desktopmodules/biography.asp?pnumber=9689&firstrec=0&recno=1&recs=1&searchplayernumber=9689) http://www.worldbadminton.net/Portal/uploads/10183b.JPG http://www.worldbadminton.net/Portal/uploads/9689c.jpg KOR National Authority CHN 1 Jul 1980 Date of Birth 28 Nov 1979 Kyungnam-Province Place of Birth Fujian 181 Height 181 - Weight - Right Right/Left Handed Right Year Tournament & Nation Round Winner Score 2004 OLYMPIC GAMES 2004 GREECE Quarter-Finals SHON 10-15 15-4 15-10 2003 World Championships 2003 ENGLAND Quarter-Finals SHON 5-15 17-14 15-9 2000 Korea Open 2000 (I) KOREA 1/32 SHON 15-11 3-15 15-6 1999 Asia Badminton Champs 99 (I) MALAYSIA 1/16 CHEN 13-15 17-16 9-15 Team Tournaments Year Tournament & Nation Round Winner Score 2001 Sudirman Cup 2001 (T) SPAIN TEAM CHEN 8-15 6-15 happy go lucky 03-10-2005, 03:19 AM Do you seriously think that Hafiz is not suffering from loss of confidence? And what about his income also? :) Misbun had in the past spoke to the press about his disciple, i hope you can reconsider what you have just say. Check that. I shall reserve my opinion about the match between LCW and Hafiz last week:D You are not in the Malaysian camp and how do you know what's going on inside. Are you an insider? This is good. Thanks you for your comment. I really enjoy it. Chong Wei's loss to Hafiz( is it 15:4 and 15:7? ) Jesus christ. In Loh we trust I think to 'deliberately lose to Hafiz' must not, and cannot, be the arrangement as WCH has much to lose himself. He is suffering from a loss of confidence for not being to win the majors for sometime now. His ranking has suffered from being WR No.1 at one time. This AE is definitely memorable. when Chen Hong was the #1 for like the longest amount of time, he used to be a reliable and consistent player who is able to get to at least the semi-final stage of all tournament. lately however, he has been much less consistent and most of the time won't even advance beyond quarterfinal. Do you think Thomas and Kamilla will win again, as they did in the danish national champs? This would be a great confirmation if they did... :) seven 03-10-2005, 04:55 AM Mixed doubles : Lee Jae Jin/Lee Hyo Jung vs Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms Women's singles : Jun Jae Youn vs Tine Rasmussen Kaori Mori vs Pi Hongyan Men's singles : Shon Seung Mo vs Chen Hong Women's doubles : Gao Ling/Huang Sui vs Cheng Wen Hsing/Chieng Yu Chin Men's doubles : Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng vs Chew Choong Eng/Choong Tan Fook Howard Bach/Tony Gunawan vs Sigit Budiarto/Candra Wijaya Jun Jae Sung/Lee Jae Jin vs Luluk Hadiyanto/Alven Yulianto seven 03-10-2005, 05:12 AM One of the first matches will be Eriksen/Schjoldager vs Laybourn/Rytter Juhl. Zhang Jun/Gao Ling are also in trouble against teammates (beaten 15-6 in the first game by Xie Zhongbo and Yu Yang!) 02011953 03-10-2005, 05:33 AM They have been to the wars, did you know 1. Xiexienfang was a doubles specialist. WJC and Runner-up in WD & XD respectively in WJC 2000 and 4 years later she is China's top WS player. 2. Wang Rong was twice topseed in the WJC but lost one final and earlier in the 2nd try. Her record in the senior ranks is indifferent - worse than Chen Li. 3. Lee Chong Wei is in the right company among the elite. He was the Fourth Man in the 2000 WJC SF, beaten by Kuncorro (then only 15+) while Lin fell to Boa who then took out Kuncorro. Remember Khoo Kay Kim and you will know why LCW is star quality. 4. Du Jing and Yu Yang are both WJC in WD/XD though with different partners in 2002 (2004?) 5. Ditto for GuoZhendong and XieZhongo (2002, 2004) in the footsteps of Sang/Zheng who featuered in both 2000 WJC XD & MD finals, also with different partners - one of them Zhang Yawen who with Zhang Dan was dropped for AE tho' ranked 4th in the world - presumably after that recent surprise flop. Robertson/Emms 6-3 up in the second set. Mia took the first set against Elizabeth Cann 11-8. andymcg 03-10-2005, 05:57 AM 13-12 to Xie/Yu vs Zhang/Gao. Thank god! Otherwise what a wholesale slaughter this day would turn out to be for the XD high flyers. But I suppose one has to expect the youngsters to be hungry and to push anyone (whether compatriot or not) out of the nest if there is only food for one mouth. Y:cool: kwun 03-10-2005, 06:04 AM Gong RN gave Julia Mann a duck in the 2nd set. 11/5 11/0 kwun 03-10-2005, 06:05 AM Robertson/Emms leading Lee/Lee 10-7 in the 2nd game. Something like the FA Cup where every1 can beat every1 else!! Pi Hongyan just crashed out too.... 02011953 03-10-2005, 06:47 AM I don't believe this! I got out for lunch, and what happens? Jens & Mette are out, Mogensen & Olsen are out... :crying:  Well, I guess it means that now they can focus on their doubles instead. :p That is not the only one conclusion to draw from the outcome. The other as that there is a changing of the guards and Robertson/Emms, Zhang/Gao are also feeling the heat. The latter survived, but I am afraid I think that last set is a fix. Watch out for the MD where Sang/Zheng face Xie & Partner. Robertson/Emms are at least having to battle and perhaps hope to get a 3rd set and win it. Y:confused: Troncheur 03-10-2005, 06:53 AM Pi Hongyan just crashed out too.... What on earth did japanese players eat recently ? Ella Karachkova seems to be putting up a good fight however! :D andymcg 03-10-2005, 07:58 AM Eriksen/Lundgaard are only 10-8 up in the first set against Trueman/Palethorpe. They are either playing very well or Eriksen is continuing his nightmare from earlier  Mag 03-10-2005, 08:00 AM Hmm... Palethorpe/Trueman is holding up well against Eriksen/Lundgaard. 10-8 in 1st for the Danes now. This really should be no match for the Danes. I've seen Palethorpe/Trueman in a tournament here in Sweden, and, no offense, but they are a class or three below the Danes. So I suspect the Danes aren't really performing... Mag 03-10-2005, 08:02 AM Ong/Tan seem to be doing well against Jeon/Lee. There aren't many of them so they usually get very little rest, having to concentrate through that many games really does take it's toll on your eyes and your mind. I'm sure all the line judges at the all england just say what see. even if what they see isn't always right... don't knock 'em down guys, if you live in the uk and you've got the time you should be volunteering to do it. oh a lighter now - Luluk and Alven lost the first set!!!!! whizkelv 03-10-2005, 09:31 AM Ok, I understand your point. But don't you think Nathan/Gail's remarks are pretty lame? seven 03-10-2005, 09:32 AM oh a lighter now - Luluk and Alven lost the first set!!!!! They had a very bad start! They seem to have started the second game on better basis with a 4-1 lead for the moment... andymcg 03-10-2005, 09:32 AM I know how difficult it can be, I did some line judging at the European Juniors in Glasgow in 1999. It was good to get in free, but I spent most of the time praying the shuttle wouldn't come near my line! I imagine its even harder at this level. But some of the calls I've seen stick in my mind for being quite obvious ones. I love it on the sky coverage when there's a dodgy call - Gill Clark always just says something like "Well now"! Neil Nicholls 03-10-2005, 09:32 AM Unbiased line calls at the All England? I don't think so! I've seen some shockers when I've been there, quite often in favour of Simon Archer  I saw a few myself yesterday: Geoff Bellingham was quite unhappy with a few calls in his match against Aamir Ghaffar, but they were baselilne calls and I couldn't tell whether they were in or out from where I was. It looked to me like Lee Hyun Il had a shuttle called in that was clearly out against Xia, [edit - the shuttle was landing on Lee's side of the court] and something similar in Wong Choong Hann's match. But I couldn't say whether the calls were biased or mistakes. jkusmanto 03-10-2005, 09:34 AM I hope that Alven/Luluk will take the 2nd and the 3rd set. They lead 8-3 now. Eriksen/Lundgaard also had a bad start in they 1st set. They had a very bad start! They seem to have started the second game on better basis with a 4-1 lead for the moment... seven 03-10-2005, 09:35 AM Ok, I understand your point. But don't you think Nathan/Gail's remarks are pretty lame? If they really had these words, I find this shows very poor fair-play... But it is possible that the journalists made this up... Neil Nicholls 03-10-2005, 09:38 AM And certainly we remember a great AE umpire called "Jane Hancock" now I thought we'd cleared that up. The serve was good, the umpires decision was correct, the yellow card probably not, and Lee/Choong need to develop a positive mental attitude :p [and before the mods jump in, there's some other threads that this discussion should be continued in rathewr than this one] But don't you think Nathan/Gail's remarks are pretty lame? dunno, what did they say. I haven't heard. whizkelv 03-10-2005, 09:40 AM dunno, what did they say. I haven't heard. Forget it. But other BF'ers knew it. seven 03-10-2005, 09:41 AM I hope that Alven/Luluk will take the 2nd and the 3rd set. They lead 8-3 now. Eriksen/Lundgaard also had a bad start in they 1st set. The Koreans are fiercer opponents than the english pair though, so it won't be as easy... Anyway, 10-6 for Luluk/Alven in the second game now... seven 03-10-2005, 09:44 AM the umpires decision was correct I don't agree on this one, but as you said this has already been discussed in another thread. 13-6 for Luluk/Alven! andymcg 03-10-2005, 09:44 AM 15-6 for Luluk/Alven seven 03-10-2005, 09:44 AM Time to post it's 15-6 already! :p whizkelv 03-10-2005, 09:47 AM Luluk/Alven took the 2nd set. It is a daft question :) The seedings are based on rankings, and Wright/Tripp are simply ranked higher. If the seedings were based on current strength, Du/Yu would definitely have been seeded (something like 4th or 5th). jkusmanto 03-10-2005, 10:05 AM Alven/Luluk took the 3rd set with 15-3. seven 03-10-2005, 10:11 AM daft question, and not to knock the lasses, but.. how can jo wright and ella trip be seeded 8th for this tournament - and donna and gail unseeded. gail and donna are by far a stronger pair. jo and ella are already on the way out - lost the first set to the chinese pair.. 15-9 They are world number 8 whereas Emms/Kellogg are number 11... Maybe Robertson/emms can do it (Although to be honest I hope not) Is widianto/lilyana still in XD? I finally get to see LCW play now. hopefully Roslin will let hiim play his strokes. I would like to see him win and see him play against an attacker (eg. Bao/Chen in the SF too.) My predictions for SF are: Lin Vs WCH Bao Vs LCW =>Bao to meet lin in final please be Bao wins, I like him and want him to overcome his nerves. ZN Vs Hirose XXF Vs Mia => ZN Vs Mia final I like them both, i hope it is a draw!!!!! cooler 03-10-2005, 04:22 PM I just don't know what to say, this is not what I expected for Gade :( hiring li mao is paying off dividends so 'quick' although he did emphasized 'speed'. :p Mantap 03-10-2005, 04:23 PM Come on you guys, give Roslin a break. We'd all think he lose and he goes and win the match instead. We expect him to win and he crashes and burns. Mantap 03-10-2005, 04:30 PM hiring li mao is paying off dividends so 'quick' although he did emphasized 'speed'. :p As far as I know, Roslin is not under Li Mao's charge;) FEND. 03-10-2005, 04:33 PM As far as I know, Roslin is not under Li Mao's charge;) Either way results did come fast!!! Be it from either charge ;) jamesd20 03-10-2005, 04:37 PM I think you call it the honeymoon period, and it works three ways. 1.The players want to work hard for their new coach so they will like them, and pick them 2.The new input/different methods of training can freshen up the player and further motivate him. 3. The coach wants to show the players he can help them, so gives them a feel good factor. In this case malaysia have No.4 as they have two coaches competing, so further enhancing motivation (of both coach and players) Neil Nicholls 03-10-2005, 04:38 PM Peter Gade lost to Roslin Hashim 15-9, 15-17, 12-15 ... bad luck for Gade What happened?
