Does anyone know what has happened to him?
Is he injured?

He hasn't been seen in MD with Yim Ban Eun since the Olympics (Ha Tae Kwon "took" his place), and hasn't been seen in MX with Lee Hyo Jung since China Open (Lee Jae Jin "took" his place).

I was just wondering what he is becoming... (sorry if it has already been said, I can't remember reading about it)

Unfortunately, he is now dismissed from the Korean National Squad. He is playing only for his team in Korea. Yim Bangeun told me that at German Open 2005. So he won't play for Korea on international tournaments any more.

Thanks for the information.
Do you know the reason for Kim being dismissed? He was performing rather well wasn't he?

I He was definitely playing well... reaching the All England Final from last year if i'm not mistaken... They played very well against Kim and Ra, but one can only do so much against them...

I can only guess because I couldn't ask his former partner Yim Bangeun directly. Kim Yonghyun told me once personally that he is sick of the life in a camp. And every national squad member has to train at the "Taereung" facility. Since he and his wife became parents at the end of the last year he possibly made up his mind not to play for Korea any more. Too big sacrifice I guess. But he won't come back. That's final.

what will he do for a living, now that he is not a player?

Lucky for those who came for SO, we managed to get a "final glimspe" of him. No wonder he wasn't playing MD at that time, just playing XD with Lee Hyo-Jung only.

He is still playing in the Korean league. So Korea Open will be the only occasion to watch him playing on the Grand Prix Tour. He belongs to a team which is located in the city where he and his family actually live.

Well, that's a big loss for korean squad but if this is a personal choice, not much could be done anyway...

If he walked away from the game for his family I have nothing but the highest respect for him. That would be a tough choice I'm sure.

Kim has been written about several times on Badzine (http://www.badzine.info/index.php/component/search/kim%20yong%20hyun.html?ordering=newest&searchphrase=exact&limit=20) in the last couple of years (some photos included). He was a national team coach for several months but that has now ended.
