What a QFinals!! Let's hope the SFinals are as exciting (because I'm watching on tv).

MS
Lin Dan v Wong Choong Hann
Chen Hong v Lee Chong Wei

If Taufik were in, it would probably have been Lin v Taufik. As it is, he isn't, but in a tournament where he is the only notable absentee, the China v Malaysia SFinals do come as a surprise. Look who they had to beat to get to this point.
Lin Dan - Mehrabi, Oedum, Ghaffar and Lee HI (add Wong CH to the list, and it does seem kind of easy for him to get to an All-England final)
Wong - Jang, Chen Yu, Liao and Sato (on paper does not look that hard)
Chen - Lewis, Ohtsuka, Shon, Bao (had the hardest QFinal of the lot)
Lee - Moody, Kendrick, Kuan, Roslin (seems like having the easiest time)
It will be more exciting to see a China v Malaysia final, and since it will be hard for Wong, I will be rooting for Lee. I think he has a 50-50 chance, even though the head-to-head is 4-1 in Chen's favour (Chen won 2 out of 2 last year).
Prediction: Lin v Lee

WS
Zhang Ning v Eriko Hirose
Xie Xingfang v Mia Audina Tjiptawan

Xie is apparently at the top of her game, while we (those of us not watching live in Birmingham) don't know much of her own game Mia has discovered. Meanwhile, Eriko cannot be termed a giant-killer anymore because that would be implying she is not a giant. It may be early yet, but I think she is the next thing China has to worry about. She is the current thing Zhang has to worry about, and it takes something big to stop a big momentum.
Prediction: Zhang v Xie

MD
Ha Tae Kwon/Yim Bang Eun v Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun
Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen v Luluk Hadiyanto/Alven Yulianto

Denmark, China, Korea, Indonesia, each a piece. Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun looks most likely to advance.
Prediction: Fu/Cai v Luluk/Alven

WD
Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen v Gao Ling/Huang Sui
Wei Yili/Zhao Tingting v Saralee/Sathinee

The top 4 seeds.
Prediction: The top 2 seeds

XD
Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter v Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir
Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms v Sudket/Saralee

Only Saralee is involved in another match. Proves how much the XD is a specialised event. They are definitely going to put Robertson/Emms on the TV court, so we won't catch Thomas on TV, which is a shame because I have a feeling that it will be a very tight match.
Prediction: Widianto/Natsir v Robertson/Emms

All my predictions are chicken-out, going for the favourites (except possibly Lee CW who may be slight underdog). Going by the events so far this week, I hope half my predictions would be seriously challenged.

I agree. If Taufik particpate, the situation would be like Indonesia Open where Taufik went on to win.

I just hope TV 1 would broadcast the match btw Lee CW and Chen Hong. Only LCW has the highest possibilty of defeating Lin Dan, out of the four semi-finalist. I am just praying hard that LCW could play to his best tonight, Chen Hong is surely tough for him.

Isn't Wong Choon Han coached by Li Mao. Why I don't see him at the All-England ? Now let's hope he can do something to help Wong beat Lin Dan. I know some people will think I am " Anti-Lin ", sorry about that. But I just hate to see someone keep winning all the time, it makes everything so boring.

I am also rooting in for Alven/Luluk and Nova/Lilyana. Seems like XD should belong to the Indonesians now. While in the MD, it's unpredictable at the moment, it depends on who's the Indonesia is going to face in the finals. I hope it's Cai and Fu and it's also an opportunity for them to revenge for Flandy and Eng Hian

The outomce of the QF are pretty near my expectations. I see that our 'official analyst' has come out with Finalists identical to the one I put out yesterday when commenting on the QF line-up.

LD-LCW (LD tho I'd like LCW to win)
Cai/Fu-Alven/Luluk (Alven/Luluk but like Cai/Fu win)
Zhang/Xie (Xie)
2 Chinese Pairs (YW/ZZW)
I left the XD 'open' as I doubted Gao/Zhang's ability to get past SF (exhausted their 9 lives) ;could'ntt see Chen/Zhao as AE champions; the 2 Indo pairs are a bit green and Saralee/Pat have not been finalists for a long time let alone win; and the Danes are unknown.I did not want to give the accolade to the cocky Englanders but this is turning out like their year.
The maximum titles for China is 4 but it could be as few as 2 (WS,WD) http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/images/icons/icon3.gifY

aah, all england is just too interesting .there have been many surprises already
well, i want lee chong wei and lindan to make it to final, and lee ended winning (but hey, this is lin dan we're talking about!so,,)
i guess fu/cai will make it to the final, as for their opponents, i think its still wide open, both are good
for the ladies i predict mia will take it, i dont know, maybe not predicting, but wanting, becos its been such a long time since mia won sumthin
ah, yang/zhang again
and for xd, i dont know, i guess nathan/gail have big motivation since its their home, and they seem to want to prove to their public that they werent silver medalists for nothing, becos i see that in england badminton fans tend to like them, and believe in them so much, but their opponents stand a chance too

Yes, TV 2 is playing live at 10pm.. I believe they only show Single match. It is because, SM play at 12.30pm (UK) time. So is 8.30pm (Malaysia) time. But, the live broacast on TV 2 is at 10pm.. By this time, i believed is the single match play. Cheers....

I was at Birmingham yesterday and watched mia play yesterday in the quaters, she has amazing technique but I think if she gets taken into a third set in her semi she will lose, her fitness is terrible. She practically collapsed after her win yesterday even though it only went to two sets!

Luluk/Alven were leading in all 3 sets by 3/4 points. In the 1st they were 12-8 up and lost and in the the 3rd they were 10-6 and also lost the plot. At those crucial stages they start hitting out or serving in the net or completely out at the back. Pity.

LCW is beginning to have a blockage about winning when he is ahead. In both sets against CH he led 11-7, 10-7 and lost. Today's reverse is going to remind him of how he squandered 8-9 points in the rubber and lost the title to Jonassen in Singapore?

So it looks like Gao/Huang are going for another biggie as they will certainly take out Wei/Zhao whose main weakness is that they do not have a killer shot between them. Y

WD
Gao Ling/Huang Sui fought back to advance to the final. They still have it in them. They'll be up against Wei/Zhao who I somehow feel are in good form now. We'll see tomorrow.

WS
I was supporting Zhang Ning, but to be honest, I wouldn't be too disappointed if Hirose won. I don't even know how she looks like and was half-wishing I can see her play tomorrow. Her second set win over Zhang showed great determination but it must have drained her. Xie could be the best player in the world right now and if Mia can beat her, she must feel she can win the title.

MD
Good win for Paaske/Rasmussen in a highly entertaining game. I think they were lucky to win in the first set, lost it totally in the second and they finished the game very well in the rubber. I think they're back to about 90% of their best now. Luluk made a number of unforced errors, and the Danes were targeting him. It will be an Europe v Asia final.

XD
The first mixed doubles match is just starting now. Surprisingly, they are showing both the XD matches on the TV. It looks like they are showing both the MS and all the matches with Europeans in it (excluding Mia).

MS
I don't think Lee CW played his best today. I also don't think Chen Hong played his best. There were flashes of brilliance from both players and it was quite intense, but overall, the standard could have been higher. In the end, in both sets, Lee CW lost it when led 11-7 (first set) and 10-7 9 (second set). Chen Hong will probably play Lin Dan tomorrow, but we'll see what Wong Choong Hann can do about it.

pity LCW. he had neither li mao nor misbun in his corner. this is bad management and poor forsight by bam yet again!

all LCW had was coach wong tat meng to give advice. and like bazz luhrman said in his song..... be carefull whose advice you buy! this is an expensive lesson for both LCW and BAM.

I think Lee Chong Wei just have to learn his lesson of how to finish the games. I agree Malaysia should have sent either Li Mao or Misbun for the big event like this and take every opportunity to tutor the players especially the young one like LCW. most players will follow coaches suggestion of approach to the game /match strategy. this has even a greater impact after the 1st game when the coach comes in to give advice / instructions.

if you watch the match again......... you will notice that LCW gameplan changed from how he normaly plays to a total diff approach in the second match! bad advice from the coach! most probably told LCW "your normal gameplay is not working! you should play a full offensive attacking game" (which was how Wong tat meng use to play in his time ------> self glorification? you answer that question).

basically LCW lost faith in his own approach and bought advice from some one who claimed to have the miracle cure! we see this happen in everyday life :(

bashing players self confidence in their own approach to the game is lowsy coaching. i stand on this statement regardless of LCW wining or losing to Chen Hong had he kept kept true to his game.

Ignore the trolls.

Only two more matches to go. If the favourites win in both these matches, you know what it means? It means all the Danes won, all the English (well, just one of them) won and all the Chinese (except Yang/Zhang who lost to other Chinese) won. All the Malaysians lost :(, all the Japanese, Thai, Dutch, Indonesians (both losing to Danes) and Koreans lost.

Overall, it has been a red day. Chinese and Danes, but especially the Chinese, rule the day.

LCW has to play a style that is effective against one opponent, there are different strategies for different types of players, like stroke, attacking. defensive... so LCW tried to use a different style that could counter cheng hong.

I think the Thais are a good pair. Except for a spell in the second set, they were almost equal to the English. Gail Emms played well, but I think Kamilla Juhl played better. Tomorrow's match will be good, and I think the Danes will take it.

Now for Wong Choong Hann and Lin Dan.

It was not that WHC did not have serves or win points . He would win a point and get the service back, but could not string the points together to score.
Several points lost on crosscourt overhead from right to LD's right forecourt which invaraibly went out (every one ) and as many lost in the right hand corner attempted drop shots that did not get over.
SoSo the first set looked fairly straightforward for LD. Y
