View Full Version : All-England Finals
hcyong 03-12-2005, 12:58 PM This is it. It boils down to this, but somehow, all the excitement climaxed in the QFinals, drops a bit in the SFinals and wanes in the Final.
MS
Lin Dan v Chen Hong
Neither played their best in the SFinals, but Lin normally dictates the game. It is when he feels too comfortable that he starts to lose it a bit. He needs to keep it in focus all the time. His left knee is strapped and I think his mobility is a bit affected.
Prediction: Lin Dan
WS
Zhang Ning v Xie Xingfang
Zhang was stretched to three games by Hirose, while Xie beat Mia in straight games. The momentum seems to be with Xie at the moment.
Prediction: Xie Xingfang
MD
Lars Paaske/Jonas Rasmussen v Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng
This is the match of the Finals. Paaske/Rasmussen played a good solid match against Luluk/Alven. I haven't seen Cai/Fu play for quite some time, but based on their recent results, they are on a roll. Just like Xie, they have the momentum.
Prediction: Cai/Fu
WD
Gao Ling/Huang Sui v Wei Yili/Zhao Tingting
It may seem that the final was played when Gao/Huang defeated Yang/Zhang. Wei/Zhao showed some good form when they soundly beat Du/Yu and then Saralee/Sathinee.
Prediction: Gao/Huang
XD
Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms v Thomas Laybourn/Kamilla Rytter Juhl
Both pairs played exciting matches in the SFinals and all indications show that the Final will be as pulsating. I think it will boil down to a slug between Emms and Juhl. Somehow, they don't do as well in the women's doubles but do very well in the mixed doubles, having no problems retrieving hard smashes.
Prediction: Laybourn/Juhl
I remember someone saying that the winners of the German Open will find it hard in the All-England. Well, with the exception of the XD event, they are all in the Final and the favourites to win as well.
ctjcad 03-12-2005, 02:28 PM hcyong,
you're baiting me...:).
well, i was the one who mentioned that, after the German Open finals.
I did say "the winners of the German Open will find it hard in the AE and most likely won't win the AE". However, I never disregard any chance of the German Open winners to win back-to-back at the AE. I was basing my gut feelings on how much amount of energy(physically, mentally as well as emotionally) spent on the court will affect their performance, esp. over 2 straight hard fought weeks.
As far as the MS, I have a feeling it will go 3 sets. Why??LD has played the most matches so far the last 2 weeks, esp. in the AE SF against WCH, stretched to rubber set. On the other hand, CH won the SF match in 2 sets. Winner, it could go either way(both have a 2-2 record vs. each other), depends who has the stamina to last 3 sets. But wouldn't be surprise to see a straight sets victory for either one.
For WS, this is it, I'm looking at Zhang Ning to take it home finally.
For MD, it's really a toss up. My gut feeling says rubber set(record says they've never played each other). But I'm looking for JR&LP to take it home. Why??They're the 'fresher' pair, while Cai/Fu have played more games.
For WD......2 Chinese pairs playing against each other...hmm, Gao/Huang can win back-to-back tourneys..
For XD, this should be one entertaining match. Emms/Robertson playing against an unknown pair, in front of their noisy homecrowd will be eager to prove to "every critics"(us BCers/BFers) wrong. Perhaps they could do it this time.
BTW, did you all noticed, none of the Chinese will be participating in the upcoming Swiss Open(next week). So the tournament is quite open, esp. to the Indonesians to win at least in 2 fields, MD and XD.
This is it. It boils down to this, but somehow, all the excitement climaxed in the QFinals, drops a bit in the SFinals and wanes in the Final.

My prediction AE2005 Final :
MS :
Lee Chong Wei beat Wong Choon Hann in 3 sets. Ops, I meant Chen Hong beat Lin Dan in 3 rubber. Better have my coffee first :-)
WS :
Zhang Ning beat Xie Xinfang in rubber; Zhang Ning has a lot to prove at her age and will go all the way out in fighting.
MD :
Paaske/Rasmussen beat Fu/Cai in rubber. If the Danish play to their capabilities and less errors than the chance is there.
WD :
Gao/Huang beat Zhao/Wei in 2 sets. I find it hard to generate any interest in this matchup.
XD :
Robertson/Emm beat Laybourn/Juhl in 2 sets
prince_user 03-12-2005, 06:09 PM MS
For once, with Lin Dan in the final I call this a tossup with it leaning toward Lin Dan. Chen Hong has something to prove and what better venue than the All England.
WS
As I mentioned before Xie Xingfang is on fire so again I call this a tossup. Any other tournament and I would call it for Xie Xingfang but this is the All England, a tournament which Zhang Ning has never won and this is probably the last chance she will get. Fearless prediction: Zhang Ning to provide the icing on a fine career.
WD
Gao/Huang. 'Nuff said
MD
Fu/Cai. Although I love the way Rasmussen/Paaske play, they seem too inconsistent to win this one. But who knows, they could just play brilliantly and prove me wrong.
XD
Robertson/Emms. In front of a home crowd, they will probably win this one. Am hoping and praying they lose but probably won't be the case.
Qidong 03-12-2005, 06:29 PM MS - Lin Dan
Easy pick
WS - Xie
Has to pick Xie every time becuase she and I have the same last name, and same hometown - actually my parent's hometown.
MD - Paaske/Rasmussen
Tough pick - but they may following their countrymen's footstep last year.
WD - Gao Ling/Huang Sui
Easy pick
XD - Laybourn/Juhl
After reading Nation/Emm's article about Asian, I have to pick their opponents whoever they are.
MS - This is probably the first time I would not point the win to Lin Dan easily. Lin's past 2 matches leading to the final took a combined 178 minutes which should be wearing on him even if he is made of steel. As well, he hasn't seemed to be playing his normal level after being taken to 3 sets so many times, even against lesser opponents like Kasper Oedum. But then again, he's been known to go to game 3 and then take the victory. Chen also had to play long matches 'specially against Bao but it's precisely his past two victories that I think he may have a legitmate chance at title. Most probably thot Bao woulda advanced by him and then when he made semis, I even thot Lee CW would take it. Chen surprised us all and may do so again tomorrow - perhaps a good thing for Chinese MS to show they have the depth once again.
WS - Xie XF is unbeatable right now. Zhang Ning just lost to her at GO relatively easily and has been taken to rubber set twice during the tourney whereas Xie's destroyed all opposition and her victory over Mia in semis is just one small indication of that. Xie in 2 straight.
MD - Definitely most exiciting match of they day. The tension will be incredibly high. Fu/Cai may just get revenge for their compatriats Sang/Zheng (who marginally lost to JR/LP) but they must play with their usual fast pace and minimize errors. Whoever wins, should win in 3 sets.
WD - Gao/Huang without a question. Zhao/Wei still are only #3 in the Chinese WD lineup. At best, they can only try and minimize the scale of defeat.
XD - I'm definitely cheering for Laybourn/Juhl here. The national champions have shown great consistency throughout the week, especially knocking out compatriats and #1 seeds Eriksen/Schjoldager with ease. But as others already preivously stated, the English are on home ground and definitely have momentum and motivation behind them. Should be a tough 3 set thriller
Also, on a side note with regards to XD, I think China definitely has to anaylyze where they're failing recently. Zhang/Gao are no longer the "team to beat besides Kim/Ra." I think Zhang is way past his prime. The most promising CHN pair appears to be Xie/Yu at the moment.
iso300 03-12-2005, 09:31 PM What did they say about Asians? I guess it's not something nice.
XD - Laybourn/Juhl
After reading Nation/Emm's article about Asian, I have to pick their opponents whoever they are.
chinadoll 03-12-2005, 09:42 PM again.... i go for the chinese couples :D
they have won Denmark 2004, German 2004, China 2004, German 2005 together..... and maybe this All England 2005 too :D
Joel_y 03-12-2005, 09:53 PM MS:
I am glad to see this all-England MS final becomes all-Fujianese MS final. :)
Lin Dan to win, as he is the cunny one while Chen Hong is not as flexible.
WS:
Hope Zhang Ning win, as Xie has a lot more chances to win. But I feel Xie will still win this one. Besides more stamina, Xie is becoming a nemesis for Zhang Ning recently.
MD:
Cai/Fu to win.
WD: Gao/Huang.
MX:
Hope Not Robertson/Emms. And I do think they might have some mental weaknesses for others to explore. :crying:
02011953 03-12-2005, 10:02 PM My predictions went slightly awry in the SF: LCW and Alven/Luluk going out to CH and Rass/Passke, respectively, in identical fashion - lafter leading comfortably in every set. The others were as expected.
Lin Dan/Chen Hong. LD is not in top form and opponents may be learning to counter his game - 3x3 setters is hard work, not slaying the opponent. Cheng H in phenomenal 4th Final - but lost two of those as his mind drifted away half way through the match. Hope he makes it this time which may be his last as he now lacks consistency and opportunity may not come in this kind again.
Cai-Fu/Rass-Paaske. Cai-Fu to make a breakthrough. Luluk/Alven have streaked ahead in tourney wins in a shorter time - time Cai-Fu win a major to justify so much support. Weakness - solid and reliable - the result of hard graft. Lack inventive touch of genius (see Alven's several short angled net fades to the tramm lines?). I may not get what I like.
Zhang/Xie as predicted.Xie ascendancy to continue - when top players start beating an unbeatable higher-ranked player (Zhang-ZhouMi 0-7 at one stage) they usually have a run and I expect Xie dominance. But Zhang is a doughty old girl. 3 tough matches is good training but says something about her state of mind and game. Has marriage blunted her sting?
Gao-Huang/Wei-Zhao as predicted. Gao/Huang as predicted, if Gao on top of her net game and because Wei-hao have never beaten them. Wei-Zhao beat others because of their immense training regime but they lack tactical savvy and a killing stroke.
Robertson-Emms/ --Juhl. It was open. Although the Indos played awful in the SF, the Englanders have been the most consistent in AE. They could satisfy the many who have come to dislike them by suffering another 'crise de confiance' as in Germany against the unranked Koreans. But maybe not. Lin Dan v Chen Hong
Neither played their best in the SFinals, but Lin normally dictates the game. It is when he feels too comfortable that he starts to lose it a bit. He needs to keep it in focus all the time. His left knee is strapped and I think his mobility is a bit affected.
Prediction: Lin Dan
i thought chen hong played brilliantly in yesterday's match. he's still my choice for the winner. but he'll know it's gonna be really really hard to snuff lindan. either way, i won't get upset with the final result . :)
for MD, wow, lars/jonas played extremely well last night. i was supporting this pair then, but now.. cai/fu, come ON, i have faith in you! don't give in without a fight, alright..
WS: i have a strong preference for zhang ning to be winner.
WD: again i favor the veterans.
XD: call it prejudism if ya like. though i've never seen laybourn/juhl play, but i'm on their side.
I tend to agree with hcyong except for the XD, which I think the English pair will win. I thought their reaction, movement, understanding and speed during the semis should see them through.
Zhang Ning has always been my favourite but this time it will be very difficult for her to beat her younger compatriot, Xie, who seems to be in top form recently. Unfortunately didn't see them in action during last night's live telecast which went past 2 am (?) Singapore time, for the last MS match.
Lin Dan is still my choice for the MS. I agree he seems a little disturbed by his strapped left leg and his mobility against WCH seemed a little slow. But I thought he displayed enough patience to outlast even Chen Hong when they meet today. CH will have to dig deep into his resources, paticularly his experience against LD. CH did very well in this aspect to outwit LCW yesterday.
i am going to put down my predictions before i head to bed. hopefully waking up early enough to catch the action here.
MS: logic says Lin would win. but my heart says don't care as they are both Chinese.
WS: heart jumping 200 saying that Xie should win. mind says 50/50 game as Zhang seems to be a bit off form while Xie is on fire.
MD: oh dear. this will be a tough one. i do wish that JR/LP can win this one. but what i really hope is that all 4 players will give us a treat of the best MD badminton, which they are very much capable of. 55/45 for JR/LP.
WD: mind Huang/Gao. Wei/Zhao is 1/2 a class below their standard. but heart says let those two win a big tournament once in a while.
XD: heart says 150% Laybourn/Juhl.
deca2000 03-13-2005, 02:16 AM hehe, why your heart only does not care about ms. ws, wd are also between chinese.:D

mikki 03-13-2005, 02:46 AM i think the chinese team once again will be dominating the tournament, let's wait and see
02011953 03-13-2005, 04:22 AM China's XD raised by Hugo's last paragraph
Zhang is 27 and Gao 25 - about the time China puts stars out to grass. ChenQQ-ZhaoTT became No.2 after many trial pairings in 2001-03, They even tried Zhengbo and ShangYang (2000 WJC MD together and XD champions and r-u) but it was too distracting for the No.2 MD for which they being groomed. Chen is 27 and Zhao 22 - Morgensen-Olsen 21-30 (?), but Chen is no Morgensen who is unexpectedly and quite original in mid-court.
XieZhongbo/YuYang is No.3, preferred over GuoZhendong/DuJing. All were 2002/2004 WJC MD, WD,XD with various other partners and are around 20 or less. Played the minor circuit (French, Polish, satelites) in 2004 with many juniors and most ended in the 2004 WJC.
Zhang-Gao are needed for the Sudirman Cup and WC but after that,Gao will play WD and wait for Chen Hong but will need a new XD partner like ZhangYawen, WD world ranked No.4 (WJC in XD with ShangYang in 2000). I expect Guo/Du will play more then.
There seems to be a plan years ahead, but Zhang/Gao are falling faster than expected while Xie/Yu are not quite ready.http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/images/icons/icon7.gif Y
Richard_S 03-13-2005, 05:00 AM What is it that everyone has against the British pairing? If you read the article properly there is no slagging of other countries, in fact quite the opposite when Emms says that she would like the crowds to be more like the wild crowds of the East. Stop mis-quoting them please!
Is there anything else people have against them?
Call it home support if you like but I for one will be cheering for them to win. British badminton could really do with theis!
:)

as much as I'd like to think british badminton will progress, I don't think it will until badminton coverage gets beyond just Sky sports tbh

prince_user 03-13-2005, 07:03 AM Lin Dan up 12-6
Adam_Millennium 03-13-2005, 07:03 AM Hi all,
I wanna talk about the semis first. I think that the match of the night will be The men singles one between Wong Choong Hann and Lin Dan. Chong Hann did not perform a good skills since last tear but he had increased his skills since the german open. As he faced Lin Dan, I could felt that he was playing hard especially the second set after 0-8 lost to Lin Dan. I hope he will continue to do his best in the coming events. For today's final, I will choose to watch the men singles also between Lin Dan and Chen Hong. Overall, my prediction is Lin Dan win the match in 3 sets.
prince_user 03-13-2005, 07:09 AM First set to Lin Dan 15-8
Pingo 03-13-2005, 07:11 AM Lin Dan 15-8. Come on Chen Hong!
I think Lindan going to win this again.
Pingo 03-13-2005, 07:19 AM Chen Hong 7-2 up in the second!
jkusmanto 03-13-2005, 07:20 AM On TV1 or TV2 ?

Yozza 03-13-2005, 07:30 AM Good to hear :D
13-5 to Chen. Looks like it'll go to the rubber.
SteveStanley 03-13-2005, 07:31 AM Will MD follow MS? If so, I'm afraid we will miss them both on TV1.
CH is leading 13-5 on the second set now

but can follow on live score...
Hope LD win
peace 03-13-2005, 07:38 AM O...3rd set has started..wait for LD
02011953 03-13-2005, 07:39 AM Exquisite 2nd game by Chen Hong who did not put a foot wrong. Haven't seen him play like this for a long long time - a dream game with full use of the wrists -fancy flicks and and those incredible smashes down the line on both sides. So many were out of reach for LD.
LD was getting rather frustrated and and snatching at many of the shots htting them in the net or completely out mumbling to himself each time he muffed a shot.
Hope CH keeps it up. I want him to win. Y
jkusmanto 03-13-2005, 07:39 AM I got the same problem.

CH running away with it , any which way he wants and LD seems all at sea. Y
Bresis 03-13-2005, 07:44 AM 9-1 now to CH :crying: what happened to lin dan?
I would actually want Chen Hong to win this All England than Lin Dan. :P

02011953 03-13-2005, 07:52 AM Wow! Cant wait to see this on e-mule!!
Finshed CH wins 15-2 and a popular one too - the crowd was delirious. Good for Chinese badminton after those demoralising consecutive losses by Xia to LD recently.
I think many people were wanting for along time to bring LD down to earth or at least a peck or two, even after his ouster at the Olympics.
LYbo was nearly in tears as he watched the last 2 points - face red and eyes glistening. LD is his pet. Y
peace 03-13-2005, 07:53 AM :crying: what happened to LD? he never gave up on score like this 15-2 is too easy ...
Anyway congratulation to CH...
I guess LD is too tired after 2 matches with rubber sets
Yozza 03-13-2005, 07:53 AM Anyone who watched the match provide some comments on the game?
Would be very interesting to see what happened to LD in the third. 15-2
Mantap 03-13-2005, 07:53 AM Hooray!!! Lin Dan is beatable not just by Taufik ;)
Bresis 03-13-2005, 07:53 AM Hooray!!! :) Its GaoLing will be very happy..:)
Now the golden couple in AE will be Chen hong and Gao ling!! ;)
happy go lucky 03-13-2005, 07:54 AM Wow congratulation to CH:) Super dan is a human afterall;)
prince_user 03-13-2005, 07:54 AM Hmmmmm? Anyone know the last time Lin Dan lost a final? Been a long time it seems.
edwin 03-13-2005, 07:57 AM I'm happy to see that Chen Hong won, as it has been a long time since he won a tournament. However, I surely hope that Lin Dan isn't injured or anything to have lost this badly in the 3rd game.
peace 03-13-2005, 07:58 AM hmm as far as i know..Lin Dan was unbeatable since he lost in Athens 2004 olympic games....but now...hmmm....I guess he's tired...buut I think he will be a winner again next time....next tournament he participate amybe is Japan open...

Yozza 03-13-2005, 08:19 AM MD finally started on RTM TV1 :D
7-7
ploppers 03-13-2005, 08:21 AM Not streaming 4 me either :(
Yozza 03-13-2005, 08:23 AM Very close, 9-8 to Cai/Fu
Richard_S 03-13-2005, 08:24 AM I had it streaming but the quality was terrible so have given up!
hdson 03-13-2005, 08:24 AM Oh yes.. LIn Dan got trashed! :)
Think Lin Dam got injured on his knee. And the show-between-game might affect him too :D (now I can see how IBF commercialized badminton)
Yozza 03-13-2005, 08:27 AM Took me about 30 mins to finally get on to the TV1 stream. It randomly drops down to 32 or 16kbps as well, which is awful quality. 225kbps is quite good, however.
11-8. Fu/Cai defended very well against the Danish smashes, then finished off with good attacking play.
Yozza 03-13-2005, 08:29 AM 10-11, some loose play from Fu/Cai.
Very sharp netplay by Cai, killing off slightly high shot at the net, service back with the chinese.
Net kill by danes goes into the net, 13-10
Yozza 03-13-2005, 08:31 AM Cai/Fu pushing Danes all over the court, forced high lift, Fu finishes off with brilliant smash, 14-10.
But the next serve goes into the net. 2nd service.

i know it's prolly asking a lot - but the streaming is hardly watchable.. very fuzzy - is it better for you guys ? i'm in the UK so it might just be the distance i'm thinking..
ploppers 03-13-2005, 08:35 AM That's what I'm doing but no luck :(
The streeaming always full..
Yozza 03-13-2005, 08:38 AM Amazing defence by the danes against a series of smashes. Finally lost the rally after a tight net shot. 3-1 after Lars nets it again.
The quality of the stream isn't too bad. A little fuzzy, but you can clearly see the shuttle. Just make sure it's at 225kbps and not dropping to 32 or 16kbps. I'm in the UK too.
02011953 03-13-2005, 08:39 AM Cai/Fu excellent catching up after being down 6-1. Fast quick exchanges which the Danes invariably lost - a wee bit slow. Some of Cai's wristy ones were incredible - I mean getting over when they seemed dead. Fu smashed 5 shots into the body of Passke and there were 3 or 4 into the ground.
Fu lost many services in the net or short - I think LiYB took it down and looked pretty dark about it.
Cai/Fu have improved out of this world and should win the match if they can keep up the intensity as they have the measure of the Danes who seem to play defensive instead of their usual attack which they seemed to be denied by the low or crosscourt shots. Y

When it did that, I had to reconnect to get back up to 225kps and pray that the server wouldn't get grumpy about having too many connections.
The Chinese pair seems to be in control of this set, 10-3 now. The danish defense isn't as consistent, and seem less offensive.
Fu/Cai making quite a few errors on the short serves, however.
i just got in the steaming..
djake 03-13-2005, 08:54 AM what is the score ?

I actually dont like to see LiYong Bo's face and his reaction..

15-10, 15-6.
The danes didn't look too sharp today, especially Lars.

peace 03-13-2005, 09:03 AM how about the score now+
Hmm...hard to see the streaming...
02011953 03-13-2005, 09:05 AM Won easily 15-6. Looked like the Danes were out of their depth but they were not. They were harried to much by the pace and flat shots thatflew just over the net and there were many quick exchanges over the net almost all won in this set by the Chinese.
LiYongbo was reliving his own glory pouring over the All England brochure which had the list of all previous winners going back a few decades. He jumped up shouting and fist in the air after the Danes hit a flat-over-the net shot out the back. Cai was on his knees after flying up and swiping a fist at the air and Fu was walking around waving with a silly grin on his mug. How nice.
After this first major, Cai/Fu can now look people in the face. There had been so many 'nearly' matches and exits at QF or SF stage. Next big date for them the Sudirman Cup and then WC.

Two matches and 2 wins by underdogs. But both Chinese.
Next one will be Chinese too. Wonder if Xie will be looking like thunder after her darling LD got badly mauled in sets 2 and 3. She should not worry, Chen H rarely plays like that these days but he just happened to produce it today and showed he is better than LD when he is in form.
I am still for a Xie win. Y

02011953 03-13-2005, 09:31 AM 11-3 Xie just worked Zhang forwards and back and short and long and Zhang seemed just that half a step behind what was needed and dug many drop shots into the net or over the back.

Next match on XD..hmm hope Robertson/Emms win...go for England:) ;)
02011953 03-13-2005, 10:09 AM Took Xie 4 match points to take it. It was a boring game after the close and exciting MD.
But she did it so suddenly. She didn't play in the WC or Olympics being the 4th ranked player and there being only 3 slots per country. As consolation after the Olympics, she (and Xia) were sent to Germany and Denmark, China Open, and all those others including another German Open last week. The result : she won 6 in a row including a major, and is now No.1. To think that when Gong Ruina won the JWC, Xie was only allowed to play in the WD and XD. Now it looks like either Gong or Zhou will be left at home for the WC and Xie will play 1st singles for the Sudirman Cup. Y

coops241180 03-13-2005, 11:14 AM wow..
i'm totaly blown away - whata fantastic match..
well done nathan and gail, unlucky to kamilla and tomas - i fear we'll be seeing a lot more of the danish pair. certainly a pair to watch in the future, they certainly proved they're not just 'dane killers'
Lets hope Nathan and Gail are in the papers over here tomorrow..
maybe even on grandstand next weekend???!!
peace 03-13-2005, 11:19 AM it seems a tight match between them....hmmm hope the English pair can still win the 2nd set ... even now is 7-4 for the Danes in 2nd set

WD doubles is starting.
Gao/Huang vs. Wei/Zhao.
Wei Yili has a new hairstyle.
samsonlam 03-13-2005, 11:29 AM Wei Yili has a new hairstyle.really, does she look good
Looks like both pairs don't take this likely, already fiercely attacking one another
peace 03-13-2005, 11:36 AM hmm.....seems a problem again with the live score..hmmm...
Engllish pair win...I like it.Great Nathan/Gail....

Engllish pair win...I like it.Great Nathan/Gail....
WD Final....anyone know, what is the head to head record between them?
Gao/Huang leads the record against Wei/Zhao 9-1
99% Gao/Huang will win this match and if Wei/Zhao want to win this title they had to work 200% harder than the usual.
Where's our BF's commentator Mr Kwun? Coffe break too :-)
7-6 service over to Gao/Huang
9-6 after mis-understanding between Wei/Zhoa. Wov what an attack by Wei
samsonlam 03-13-2005, 11:51 AM hey guys, how's wei 's new look?
Gao/Huang starting to pull away 11-6
7-12, good dropped by wei
Hard to defend when you have two hard smashers Goa/Huang compare to only Wei on the other side. 7-12
Wow, what a long, fast pace rally. second server 9-12
Long rally and fierce attack again and Wei made a mistake, 13-9
Zhao has started to attack too, 10-13
Wizbit 03-13-2005, 12:04 PM Actually I think Gao Ling is the weakest smasher of the 4.
15-10 Goa/Huang. I don't think Wei/Zhao have enough arsenal to beat Huang/Gao.
Hard to defend when you have two hard smashers Goa/Huang compare to only Wei on the other side. 7-12
agree. Zhao can smash too. but too slow to get to the 2nd and 3rd lifts.
May be alter the strategy, play more on net than pure power attack
1-0 Zhoa/Wei, power smash from Wei
Yes, attack attack and attack, 4-0
Wei Yili is playing well today. Zhao TT is just her normal self.
the real difference between the two pairs are general consistency. W/Z are less strong and consistence in defense. as well as simple thigns like they will suddenly do a simple lift and out.
but you can sense that W/Z really want to get this championship. they have been #2, #3 for a long time.
Huang/Gao hardly attack in 2nd game, 1-4
2-4 mistake by Wei hitting to the net;
3-4 force error, drive straight to Zhoa body;
4-3 Smash from Zhoa
7-3 smash from Wei
7-3 2nd serve, 4th smashes still unable to kill;
samsonlam 03-13-2005, 12:15 PM han, zhao,not zhoa
Goa smashed back, 5-7
Someone in the audience said "Goa Ling Wo I Ni(I love you)
6-7 now
can really tell that W/Z are the rally makers here. Z/H are just happy responding to it, waiting for the opportunity and mistake.
jkusmanto 03-13-2005, 12:18 PM Salute for Nathan and Gail !!!
She talked arrogance, but now I have to SALUTE them.
They prove it that they are one of the best in XD.
hmm.....seems a problem again with the live score..hmmm...
Engllish pair win...I like it.Great Nathan/Gail....
WD Final....anyone know, what is the head to head record between them?
3 rallies lost by Zhao. hard to tell her emotional state from her facial expression though. she is always emotionless.
on the other hand. Wei Yili has been on fire and working very hard.
Is RTM live streaming still working? I managed to get on at 225kb after the midnight break but lost it. I cannot seem to get back on.
Ron
peace 03-13-2005, 12:26 PM Hmm 13-10 for Gao/Huang..2nd set...seems they will win the AE....
Does anyone know how many times do they win the AE title..
W/Z are playing their best game now. trailing 12-13. it is now or never.
peace 03-13-2005, 12:27 PM 13-13 now...seems the match get tight..not easy for Gao/Huang
peace 03-13-2005, 12:29 PM Gao/Huang serve now.....13-13....will they finish the match? or...? hard to predict....
peace 03-13-2005, 12:31 PM Gao/Huang win 15-13...2nd set
ZhaoTT simply ran out of gas mentally at the end. a string of rally lost and she wasn't even in the offensive at the end.
she let a lift in at 13-13 and then net into the net 14-13.
Gao/Huang won the 2nd and the match, 15-13
peace 03-13-2005, 12:32 PM hmm so the score between them (head to head) will be 10-1  for Gao/Huang...when did they loss to Wei/Zhao ? It must be long times ago
flymordecai 03-13-2005, 12:33 PM Wei/Zhao beat Gao/Huang in the China Open last year. I wanted a third game!
there is a Gao Ling admirer in the audience. someone shouted again, "Gao Ling Wo Ai Ni". Gao heard it, laughed and waved.. ;)
Wei/Zhao beat Gao/Huang in the China Open last year. I wanted a third game!
same here. i think Wei/Zhao was playing really well the whole match. they had the chance to pull Gao/Huang to the 3rd, but a slip in concentration ultimately means that they will be #2 again.

They're more inconsistent, but they controlled the rallies(when they were attacking). Oh well, there's always the World Championships for them to make their first big tournament win. :D
