Hey, I'm a novice badminton player that is going for a local team. So far, I've made the first set of cuts, but I know that it'll take more than my current skill level to actually make the team. As it stands right now, I am absolutely horrible at the game in my perspective, my smashes are slow, my drops are unaccurate, my smash returns are almost non-existant and I always seem out of position. A few weeks back, I managed to improve my smashing speed, but the accuracy was still off. In an attempt to fix that, my coach and friends advised to add extra grips to my racket to get more power out of it. This didn't work, in fact, it had the opposite effect on me. I still have the same problems, slow smash, weak returns, bad drops and horrible positioning. Can you please help me overcome these problems? Any advice is good advice. Thanks.

Well, About the grip I am using frotté grip (towel-grip) which is the best for me. I don't think the grip is that important whether you smash hard or not. To get good decent smash my experience is to hold a firm and tight on your racket, and to be able to use your body-movement. -Bend a little backwards before and smash and use the power you get while you're 'straigthen up again'

With your position on the court I suggest you learn a prober footwork, get under your skin so you don't have think about how to move. -Study some of the good players at your local club. Other wise it's playing a lot of matches, this is where you truely learn how to place your self.

I've realized I'm not JR, but perhabs my words can do you some good anyway :)

Good points there Christoffer!

I think you are on the right track.

Get some help from a coach and start practising harder. Maybe you should focus on one thing at a time. Sometimes players tend to wanting to become better in all aspects of the game, but that is very difficult to achieve.

If you focus on one thing at a time your progress in that area will be quicker and you can move on to the next area you want to improve.

Kind Regards
