Hi,

I am an English player who is proabably going to Christchurch at Lincoln University to do a PhD towards the end of this year.

I'm looking for badminton of quite a high standard, would be interested in playing the national tournaments and would probably be interested in doing some coaching too. Are there places where I can train? With people of a similar standard? And if I was living on campus at lincoln university (which I understand is out of town)....how easy is it to get into christchurch to train & play 3 times a week without my own transport?!

Thanks anyone and everyone

Ewen

Hi Ewen,

The Lincoln Club has one province of player of note and if you stay at the Lincoln campus you will be close to the club (surpisingly).

But as for National Competitions and Local Tournaments they are all played at the Canterbury Badminton Hall, which is about an hour's drive from Lincoln's halls of residence. They are on the opposite sides of town.

It's pretty easy to get into Christchurch but the only problem is that you have to take a bus if not two to get to Badminton Hall. That'll be at least 2 hours one way. Lincoln uni will have it's own gym, but I don't think there'll be many people there of a high calibre.

I think I've answered most of your questions. Feel free to ask more.

Cheers,
Kenneth

Hey Kenneth,

Thanks for your reply, that gave me a good idea of the situation..........but two hours one way? jeez that doesn't sound like something i'm going to be wanting to do more than once a week!

So do you play at the university of canterbury then? Are there inter-university games and stuff?

Greetings again,

Two hours one way is not something I'd like to do, unles I really really really love the game. Which I do.

The University Games are only once a year. If you want to play regularly you'll have to join a club, which means that you can take part in the interclub competition. Joining interclub will also allow you to take part in the Divs i.e. inter province games.

Then there are tournaments that happen once in a while. I play at the University of Canterbuy club, but we don't play at the Uni itself because it's too expensive. So we play about 10 mins away from the uni at a school hall.

Cheers
