I should get mine by the end of the week. Will post a review when i get plenty of action for my vancouver trip. :p
They are released in the UK this coming Monday - I'll maybe get a pair depending on price since I've just bought a new pair of 89's and have a pair of newish 98's.

I alternate between 89s and 98s at the moment and I marginally prefer the 89s, so I'm going to give the 99s a miss (at least until I've seen some reviews after long term use) and get some more 89s
Unless when I go to the shop to get some 89s they have run out of my size.
So I tried on a pair of SHB99
As with the 98s I had to go half a size larger than my normal size to get a good fit.
The 99s feel more like the 89s than the 98s
They have a wider fitting than the 98, about the same as the 89.
They are heavier than the 98s, again, about the same as the 89, but they felt light whilst being worn.
So I bought a pair.

Some famous palyers already got these shoes from YONEX on the German Open like HA Taekwon and his partner Im Bangeun. During the All England all Yonex sponosored teams should receive them. The response was very positive.

Just seen it in Bras Basah in Singapore S$149, as usual made in china.
Sorry, did not buy it, too expensive for me :)
Sorry never wore a SHB before cannot comment.
Still questioning its durability v/s price ratio :)

I saw the SHB99 Low today at Yonex's website.
Somehow, it's not the same as 99MID: the color is different and the price is a little lower. :p

I've played in my 99s a few times now, and the only thing I've particularly noticed is that the insole is a little higher under the arches. It felt funny for a while but I got used to it.
Otherwise I haven't noticed much difference from the 89s

It's kind of confusing, as USA, Taiwan, and many other countries already have the white color of the 99 (same as 99 MID, but in low)
Now Yonex came up with this 99 Low in silver color. I wonder if this is supposed to be a new model or what........?

Hi evryone,
I would like to suggest that we should buy a pair of badminton shoes with 1/2 size bigger. For example: I usually wear 7 and 1/2 size shoes, but for playing badminton I have to buy the size 8 shoes. The reason is that when I try to stop or break for saving the drop shots, I will move my feet so hardly. That will force my feet move front to touch the shoes, so we should leave some space for the impact.

Personally, I think allow feet to move within the shoes is rather dangerous in badminton...

The reason I said that it is because I have perfect 7and 1/2 side feet. I have to allow my feet to move (not a lot) when I play badminton. I remember, Mizuno always suggests buyers who play indoor sports to wear 1/2 size more from their normally size. I did not believe before. I bought a pair of badminton(size 7 and 1/2) shoes from them. After some games the thrumb of my right foot got black nail(I am a right handy and use my right foot to break). I had to wait about two months to recover.

my normal shoes are size 10.5... but im finding my size 10.5 nike court shoes too loose at the front.. it slides when i have more intense training, and hurts the inside side of my big toe.. my coach told me to wear thicker socks and tie the shoe laces tighter to prevent the friction from hurting my feet.. so far it's working.. but i'm planning to get size 10 badminton shoes

Nike court shoes are notorious for being wide. Yonex ones are narrower. The same size of nike ones as compared to yonex would hence feel bigger, so before you go for 10, you should also consider the width.

Ant, if you feel the nike court shoes too loose, it means there is too much space between your toes and the shoes' front. You should consider to buy the professional badminton shoes like yonex or mizuno. bty, Do you feel your feet move forward, when you try to stop during badminton games?
I dont think it is a good idea to buy a pair of smaller shoes (smaller than your foot length) to play badminton. it hurts your toes even more.

well i'm going to try out the SHB 89 to get a feel of what size would fit.. i dont want anything loose to cause that problem again.. i dont quite know if its my foot sliding forward when i stop thats causing the pain.. but it could be.. or it could be just sideways movement.. i'm guessing a slightly tighter fit would cause less friction than a loose fit.. but i'll still try out some of the shoes before i decide on the shoe size to get :)
well damn it. my SHB89 is quite worn. after 2 years it has developed a large hole on the side of the shoes and getting larger and larger everytime i play. with Yonex discontinued the SHB89, it looks like SHB99 is my only choice. i will go try it out and see. will post a review if it ends up fitting my feet.
otherwise, i think i will be stuck without any choice of good badminton shoes. the selection here in the US is quite limited :( :(

SHB89 is still in production? Am I not wrong? I thought I saw it in the catalogue... Anyways in Brunei the new stuff from yonex is coming in sometime this week! Gonna have a look at what they brought in... maybe the NS7ks and SHB99s. If I'm not wrong, one shopkeeper said he can sell 1 pair of SHB99 (low or mid not sure which one) for around SGD$105...

yes, but it doesn't mean it will definitely fit you. all feet and shoes comes in different shape, width, stiffness and the size is only a rough guide on whether it fits you or not. the best is to try them out in person.

i bought a pair of SHB99 today. went over to badminton alley during lunch break and got a pair. they felt ok when i tried them on. the toe box is quite spacious but it gets narrower as it gets close to the ankle. hopefully over time it should expand a little to fit my wide feet. i will post a review when i try them on court this week....

i cannot say for sure, here is what i know so you can make your own decision.
i wore a pair of SHB89 for 2 years. they are size US 9. the size and feet fits me well and over time, it has pretty much molded into the shape of my feet.
i tried on the SHB99 today. also size US 9, and i found that the length is same as the SHB89. fit is same (roomy) for toe area, and narrows in as one get close to the ankle.
however, we are comparing shoes that just came out of the box and shoes that have been broken in for a long period of time. i honestly do not remember how the SHB89 felt when i first got them.
with the few minutes that i had them on, i found that the overall feel of the SHB99 is quite close to the SHB89. if you can wait, wait for a couple of days i will post the review of the SHB99 on court. that should give more info on your decision.

Same as the UK, we still have it this year in our catalogue (pamphlet), it seems very popular over here.
I tried out the 99's last Sunday and a few of the folks thought they resembled a basetball shoe rather than the slim narrow badminton variety that we usually expect from a Yonex top of the line model.

i took some pictures of my SHB-99 . enjoy!
here are the shoes and the product tag.
the sole of the shoes, or more appropriately, the soul of the shoes.
the outside and inside of the shoes. some places are meshed. there are some plastic decorations on the outside, not sure how long those will stay there.
ventilation was definitely on Yonex's list this time. there are some holes at the top of the shoes to let out some smell... erm, i mean air... ;)
finally, the insole. quite a fancy one. the side have some teeth like structure.
the under portion of the insole is actually lined with plastic (the darker portion). those among us who wear Superfeet insole will recognize them.

shb99 is a further refinement of shb98. shb98 is light and contour foot better than shb89 especially for ppl wif odd shape foot but imo weaker during extreme lateral control. This is where the lateral claw feature on the 99 come in. The power cushion insole MC is also a slight improvement over the insole FG of 98. My feet is regular in arch and width (not narrow, not wide) so my comments come from a neutral foot point of view.

I use silver "Gaffer Tape" or "Duct Tape"...also, you can get them in different colours to match the shoe.

It really depends on the shoe design and what material they use at that spot...as no tape sticks when the surface is wet from sweat.
Yonex ones have a large leather area (with no mesh) so sweat does not permiate, and the tape does not dislodge. On my hi-tech shoe, where there is a lot of meshing, whatever tape I use won't help. I use gaffer tape, which is generally one of the tackiest.
But with meshing, you can sew the tape edge onto the fabric...anyone try?

Is it just me or are yonex shoes getting more ugly? They are starting to look like basketball shoes. Lol.
Next thing you know, the short shorts will become long basketball shorts. =/ Just like what happened for basketball, they use to wear shorts like badminton and now the trend is long shorts past the knee.

I dont think the short shorts will be long shorts like basketball , it really hinders the movement of the players.. feel clumsy moving around the court with long shorts..

i'm a little confused about what you mean, but from what i gather from a website of a store in taiwan, the SHB 99 MX is the japanese version (ie. more expensive) of the MID, which is the international version (ie. cheaper than MX). the LO i believe is a different version all together (and the only one that is silver)
i also heard somewhere that the MX version is slightly narrower than the MID version

I like Red-White color, because I find that Red-Silver is a bit fancy to me. :D
Consider that many BFers find that SHB-99 'bigger' then SHB-89 which I am using right now, so I decided to go myself to fix it in the shop rather than order online.
Not many special badminton shop to find in Belgium, so I will buy one later this summer in Netherlands (like usual), when I go there.

If you are right handed, you tend to drag the left shoe (see red oval on picture) along the floor. This area is known to be worn through the fastest. To prolong the life of the shoe, you cover that area with tape.

Quick question. The SHB-89MG has the anti-twist system which is something I'm looking for since twisting my ankle doesn't sound like a lot of fun.
Will the SHB-99MID (not low) have as much if not more ankle support as the SHB-89MG? I know the SHB-98 doesn't which is why I'm not even considering that.
Thanks.
so i finally managed to use the SHB99 for one evening worth of badminton.
initially, i had fear that the shoelaces aren't tight enough so i tightened up. at the end of the first game, my feet started aching. i immediately loosen the laces and everything was good. even with my wide feet, they fit well and comfortable.
overall, the shoes felt very similar to the SHB89. there is still quite minimal amount of padding at the sole of the shoes. if you are using them on a hard and stiff surface like a thin playing surface on top of concrete, you will start to feel your knees after a while.
the rigidity of the rear end of the shoes is better than SHB89. it maybe a combination of the structure of the heel area as well as the special insole.
talking about the insole, i did feel some movement of the insole at some point of the evening, i am not sure if that's a problem or if it will go away after the shoes are properly broken-in.
gripping of the sole was only so-so at the beginning, after some broken in, it stopped slipping. usually new shoes takes a short amount of time for the sole to break-in as well.
so overall, a reliable pair of shoes that offers good support. ex-SHB89 users should not have problem fitting into the SHB99.
not sure about the price, US$85 is quite a lot of money for a pair of shoes. i don't think i have ever paid so much money for any shoes that i own.

Exactly the same with me because the shoe seems almost too wide, tightening the laces to compensate and ending with aching feet after 1 game

I had to stump up £60. they are the same price as the usual high end Yonex trainer (98's, 95's etc)
The one extra thing is if you put weight on the lunge you can feel the "anti going over on your ankle" claw pushing upwards through the trainer, I'm not sure if this is a good thing or bad thing yet.

I am afraid now... I dont want the shoes to be too wide :crying:
Just gave them a good outing tonight doing drills with a coach, they seem ok to use and the movement with the insole is virtually zero now.
I made sure I done mostly front court work with a lot of lunging, round the head jumping clips, jump lunges etc. to make sure the trainers were up to it.
Nothing bad to report with the only exception being I think they lack a bit of cushioning when landing from jumps (or maybe it's the extra weight I'm carrying at the moment being detrimental to jumping)

Got mine today, somehow feels a bit like SHB89 that I had a while ago but there is somethign different that I cant describe.
Can`t compare it to SHB98 because I never tried it long enough. More reviews when Ill try them more
with more mileage on my SHB99, i can give a bit more thoughts on this pair of shoes.
i keep on comparing it to the SHB89, and justly so as they are quite similar and without argue, the SHB99 is designed to be a replacement of the SHB89.
i noticed that the SHB99 has a stiffer and more rigid sole, this gives better support of the feet during movement.
the cushioning is a bit to the scarce side. i feel that these shoes are not very suitable for unforgiving surfaces like gyms with only one outer layer on top of concrete.
the more time i spend wearing these shoes, the less i feel the insole moving around. perhaps it is now starting to mould into the shape of the feet and rest of the shoe.
my feet are still not used to them though, i cannot totally blame the SHB99 but after i started wearing them, my feet starts to develop some sore spots. locations in the feet that aches more than others.

I tried them today. very impressive. there is something worth to be mentioned: due to the lateral claws, my smallest toe hurt a lil bit after some games, because they prevent your feet from moving and add pressure on the small toes. I wore a pair of very thin socks, and I have no experience about badminton shoes, so I could be wrong.

Btw, I must have been stepping differently or wrongly or because the NIKEs were too big, the most worn-off part is not where it was illustrated on cooler's nice ankles, but rather where the largest toe is.
I'm not, however, sure about the size. Judging from the actual sizes of my feet (i.e. bare foot - 26cm/~10in long (yeah, not a long one, therefore feels loose in my old nikes)), I should probably get either UK6 or UK6.5 from the online store. I turn to you - yonex shb 99 wearers - do you know a source that I could more or less trust on this size conversion? No possibility to try them on in Latvia, though. :(

The crucial thing here might be whether the length in cm is the whole shoe or the foot.

u should photograph your shoe beside a ruler.

I know that the attached-by-me-table isn't very good - it was just to illustrate possible variety in size convertors. :o No need to photo my shoe though - 43 is its labelled size, and my 26cm foot is also pretty sure .
So you're saying that yonex pretty much keeps to your posted table?

I went to a sportshoe store yesterday, tried on Asics Gel-Construct (handball) Gel-something (volleyball), and some other... Gel-block or something, for my 26cm long foot, the 27cm/9US/42.5EU model was a perfect fit. When I say perfect, I mean on the boundary of being already too small to be comfortably perfect. From what i've heard, there is no 43EU model for asics, it's just 43.5EU, which was already sold out and, therefore, not available for try-on. So should i go for this tight 42.5 or 43.5 instead?
P.S. Does anyone know how many asics gel models there are in total? Must be several hundreds, because it's different models in each countries' asics webpages, gel has been around for several seasons, and people never seem to mention the same models twice. It just gets really confusing. :(

I bought a pairs Of SHB 99, i took 10.5 US. It was hard to chose between 11 and 10,5 cauz i have two other yonex shoes,
1 pair of badminton SHB 65 ex (not sure) and they were 11 but have space in them. And a pair of tennis SHB 304 10,5 and they fit perfect. So i chose 10,5 cause the shoes are better fit and the years is the same so the size should be right ???

what are the main differences between the shb99low and 99MID and what are the benefits of each of them?. we dont get the MID's in the uk so its really annoying, i dont think i've even seen a real life version of any MID shoes. does anyone know of retailers which sell MID's and ship to the uk?

In short, one is high to ankle and one is below the ankle.
low version also features some changes in materials.

It depends on which shb99 it is. I'm currently using the old version, and I would never by the "Limited edition" version, basicly because I find it ugly.
Shb98 is a fairly good shoe, and I believe theres a reason why players like gade is using it.

Not yet they aren't..................
Remember that the ltd's were only sold in Japan until June/July until they were released in the UK, happy to say i got them on the first day they came out so i cold wear them in the badminton bonanza in Milton Keynes Academy that weekend and no one else had them - they drew a lot of admirers.
The blue ones could be one of two things, (i) The female version of the Ltd's or (ii) the new top of the line shoe for the new coming range of Yones released at the All England since there was no 99 replacement on show and it will be released at a later date like the current ltd was.

Hi Pete,
I did a search and found you mentioning yoursole previously while Dinkalot recommends Superfeet Green :)
From net merchants, Superfeet Green is a bit cheaper than Sole Ultra. On the other hand Sole Ultra also comes in more sizing options, Superfeet has fewer and expects you to trim to size if you're 'in-between'.
Regarding the Sole Ultra Softec (black), could you tell me more about the forefoot cushioning... is it better or just the same as that of a Yonex insole? I'm interested in getting something that provides good forefoot cushioning in additioning to the usual heel support etc.
If Sir Dinkalot could let me know about the forefoot cushioning properties of Superfeet Green that would be appreciated as well. If wrong thread, moderator, please feel to move to a Superfeet thread....

The cushioning of the YourSole is so much better than Yonex's. One pair lasts about 6 months of 3 to 4 baddie sessions a week, each session about 3 hours.

Tried them and a few other pairs of sorborthane type insoles and all of them are too narrow for my feet.
I try to get the largest sizes but then they tend to be the wrong shape, even after I've cut away from the heel and toe end.
Not good for fat feet as you can feel the edges around the front of the foot.

Got the Two this afternoon for a comparison . . .
Your Sole Black: much thicker overall cushioning overall and better arch support
SuperFeet Green: heel has a very rigid plastic support cup. The Green is comparable thickness around heel area Vs. the Your Sole Black
Do we have a clear winner? No, they have their own advantage.
Your Sole Black excels in cushioning and arch support but lacks an extremely rigid heel cup. SuperFeet Green has better heel support and cushioning but lacks cushioning around the toe and ball area.

It's really hard to help you because of the inconsistencies in sizing. We can give you our best guess but there are no absolutes. I have found the 99s in Size: 9 US and lower to be on par with Nike and Asics Tiger and I have found that Size: 12 US in the 99 is on par with the Nike and Asics Tiger Size: 13.
So it's definitely gray area.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the SHB-99 is still a first-rate shoe. I just continue to look for equipment that is ideally suited for me. So far, the Switchback shoe is a bit better than the 99 (again for me). It has better cushioning and grip. If you're a lighter, fast player, I'd still recommend the 99 over the Switchback because the 99 is a faster shoe.

Durability is all relative. But I would say it's at least average to pretty durable. Yes, the 99 is very comfortable compared to all the other shoes I have tried.

So has anyone found out where to get the SHB-99 lo in blue, besides www.shuttle-house.com? I would prefer to buy it locally, because the person I asked to get me them from Japan, never did, and I'm still stuck with my SHB-89. I'm looking for the navy blue shb-99 lo once again. Thanks. PM or post in here will be really appreciated, thanks.
