Hi Tifam,
Thank u for the information. Just wish to know, are there any sport facilities available that are run by sport authority or people association or community?
What is the minimun booking hours for each session? Can foreighner book these courts? Or are they subject to different charging rate? Thanks.

Hi Mr Lee

How about some pics of places you played and visited? :D

And do tell us more about your stay there. Now that budget airlines are available, I'm sure many Singaporeans (and Malaysians) are keen to visit if badminton can form part of our itinerary! Any recommendations of where to stay and the associated costs? :)

Hi Loh,
OK. I used to stay at Su Van Hanh near junction of Huong Vuong at District 5. This place is near An Duong Plaza. Basically district 5 is a Chinatown areas where there are more Vietnamese chinese reside. They tend to speak cantonese more than mandarin.Just next to No:65, Ann Duong Voung, just besides the Kindergarten, there is four Indoor Doom shaped badminton courts. U have to be alert to see the word "Cau Long" which means shuttle if I am not wrong.U have to walk through the lane n pass the basketball court before u see the badminton court venue which have a sliding door.I used to play at this place and also at Ky Hoa Hotel compound's indoor badminton courts. I also played at 553, nguyen Tri Phuong at District 10, and also at No:2, Nguyen Van Chu.at district 1.At Phu Tho Club, there are 12 badminton courts.I will try to take some pictures of these places when I am up there. I will be there by this coming Monday 24/10/05 n v be back in Spore by 29/10/05. Hope that my digicam work!:p Any Bc members staying near District 1 or 10 or 11 can pm me if u want to play. I v try to arrange for u.:D
That is provided I am up there.

Thankyou for the info.

Do you normally go up with friends or you go there for business. And who do you play with if you don't have your own group. Is it alright just to join any group playing there?

I see that you'll be going again next week. Are you a frequent traveller there? Care to tell us how much it costs for the basics like return air fare, hotel rate (like the one you are staying, what sort of basic facilities, are they ok?), internal transportation, food. I guess they'll be much cheaper than in Spore.

Is is possible to arrange a friendly match with BC Singapore, if we are able to interest members here to make a trip there? :)

Hi Yvonne,

Your hotel is in Dong Khoi district ( the HCMC CBD).There are some places to play. The normal rule as in any foreign country is to turn up at the court and see if the people playing matches your standard ( depanding on your level of skills). You can ask them politely if you can join them for a game or two. I find the Vietnamese most friendly and don't mind you joining them for a game. It's best you bring along your own shuttle as your contribution.
Personally I prefer Ky Hoa Park badminton courts. It is a huge park but with lots of sporting facilities. It's about 25000 dongs by taxi. It's alwasy busy after 5.00 and you can see if the players playing are to your level of play. If not, you can always watch people play badminton or tennis ( there are 15 10 tennis courts including covered courts), go for a walk in the park, have the racket restrung at the sport shop, or have a meal there or do some shopping at the night market near the park or at Cach Mach Trang Tam/Ba Thang Hai area.
The downside is that the Vietnamese don't speak much English and most of the time you play the game is using sign language. If you are interested in Ky Hoa Park badminton hall, let me know. I can direct you to the gang I used to play when I was there. Alternatively most mornings there are thousands of players playing badminton in the open air in parks at 6.00a.m onwards. See the standard and ask if you can join them for a game.
For further infomraiton, you can always contact me at permanis@hotmail.com

Hi Loh,
Yes, I am a frequent traveller to HCMC. I will up there for business trips. During daytime, I will travel with my Vietnam counterpart, whereas nitetime, I will usually go for games.I came to know two groups of Vietnamese and they are playing badminton almost every nites. OK. Here is the fees to pay if u play regularly with them. For Ky Hoa group, they charge $150,000 Dong for three days a week's game. If u opt for everyday, then the charges will be $250,000 Dong. For An Duong Vuong 's group, the charges is $100,000 Dong for three days per week. Just for yr infor, the exchange rate for Spore dollar is S$1/- is to about $9400/- Dong.;) As for Hotel, the carges can range from US$60/- per nite to US$80/- per nite for 3* to 4*, depend on Districts.I dont stay in hotel. As I am frequently go there, I stay in my rented apartment.:D The airfare from Singapore to Vietanm with return trip is around S$360/-++. If u are going on SQ with two pax n return at the same time, then it is cheaper. Promotion lah!:D It is possible to arrange for Spore BC members to have friendly games with them but must be at HCMC. They are some but not many who also travel out of Vietnam but not frequently. The cost of living there is cheap. As for food, most of our Sporeans may find the road side or normal eating shops not so hygienic but it is ok.Some of the restaurants in District 1 serve wonderful and delicious foods. U may also go for a Saigon river boat cruise with music and food serve on board. The cruise will always last at least for an hour or more.As for return trip, remember to have US$12/- or $200,000/- Dong ready for airport tax.Just PM me if u are interested in the makan places.Thanks.

Hello Lee

You can be our Singapore resource person on Vietnam HCMC badminton. You seem to know the badminton scene there very well. And you gave us a useful guide to the financial aspects as well.

I'm sure from now onwards, many Singaporean BFers will consult you before making a badminton trip up north. You'll be our Vietnam specialist.

Thank you once again for being so helpful. :)

Hi All,

I guess we are should be enternally grateful to Birdiegut in providing helpful info regarding badminton in HCMC. To side track the matter, I believe tourism there is set to boom. Now that relationships between American and Vietnam has improved with Vietnam Airline flying to America this month (after 30 long years of waiting), there will be lots of Americans who will be visit Nam either as a place or for sentimental reason such as the war veterans who fought in Vietnam ( including US presidential hopeful Senator Kerry whose fighter plane was shot down and was jailed in Hanoi Hilton). This was reinforced by yesterday TV show interview with Eugene Levy and Samuel L Jackson ( the duo in their latest movie), where Jackson mentioned that his next holiday is to visit HCMC and check it out for himself because he has heard so much about the place. That was a good promotion for Vietnam. David Hasselhoff was on the first United Airline flight to HCMC early this year.

A holiday combine with a bit of badminton will be fun in Vietnam. If you can, make a side trip to Nha Trang in Central Vietnam for a holidays. People keep saying it is like Phuket 30 years ago.

Hi Birdiegut
Good to see you are a frequent visitor to Vietnam. You should be getting all the frequent points judging by all the trips there.I hope you do play some badminton there. Yes there are lots of eating places in HCMC but in actual fact I was eating Malaysian food regularly at Satay House in Mach Din Chi. Maybe it was near where I lived. But the pho place next door is equally good too if you want a change of taste. As for the river cruise, you might as well skip the food (so and so only) and just take the boat trip which usually leaves at about 9.00. After that you can all have a drink or two at that cowboy pub opposite the pier shouting Hoi ( I never knew what hoi meant but I believe it to be cheers/yam seng/kam pei). That's all for food and drinks for the moment. Now, we must not divert from badminton....
Cheers and all the best.

Just imagine today, I play with the Distric 10 champion at 553, Nguyen Tri Phuong. Wow, his skill is fantastic. Maybe they know my partner is not that experienced.:o Well, that is the way of the game. His weapon is his powerful smash. Got many good players too.Enjoy the games there. Hello Adidas,

Your District 10 champion certainly looks impressive.HCMC is the powerhouse of badminton in Vietnam and the top Vietnamese players are from that city ( it's similar in Australia where most of the top players are all mostly Victorians).Their standard is nowhere near to the other South East Asian powerhouse like Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand. However the game is extremely popular there and they have hired many Chinese coaches to raise their standard. It's a matter of time before their standard starts to attract attention but not now. They have only one good player Nguyen Tien Minh at regional circuit level.I read somewhere that a Vietnamese player is the captain of the NUS badminton team.On the whole, their standard can only go up.

Cheers

Hi Dream Hai,
Agreed with u that these guys are very friendly and sociable. Few can cammunicate in simple English. I think they tend to speak more French than English. :p I found these places are one of the cheapest in S.E.Asia. 3 times per week and cost per month is VND100,000/- per month is pretty cheap.
Only the shuttlecocks used are of slightly lower grade. per tube is about VND 50,000/-;)

Hello BirdieGut,
Just been back from HCMC after one month there. Was just able to play at Le Van Tam park with a group of local players. The upside is that you get to play the game but then downside is getting up at 5.30a.m to play. Again language is a barrier as I cannot understand a word of Vietnamese and they cannot understand English or Chinese. I just keep hearing them shouted kay wah during play so I presume it must be attack or good shot.I cannot understand the score. The only time I know the game is over is I see the other players walk off the court or change ends.
Nevertheless the Vietnamese are very friendly people.I enjoyed playing badminton there and I suppose we can just use hand signs to keep up the score. After the game it is always nice to have a bowl of bum bo. Avoid the char siew pow or Singapore pow that you find everywhere (called banh bao) because they are just not what you eat in Singapore. While there I did see the 2006 Robotic Baminton tournament and I saw Ronald Susilo crashed out in the qf and the Singaporean ladies (mainland Chinese) came 4th. I think age is catching up with Ron. The Malaysian players fared better and all reached the semis and they were all junior players.

They were saying Hay Qua which means good shot!
Clubs are open until 10pm so if you want to skip the early morning session there is plenty of action 4-10pm...
Nguyen T. Minh who won the mens singles went to Germany and when he came back he had a new style which consisted of constant offensive clears with some drops and smashes thrown in for surprise effect....The result was that he wore down Susilo and Jeffers and made them try to make shots that they could not make...The games were actually a bit funny to watch but results could not be argued with....Hope you play here again and if I can help you with places to play just let me know...contact me at ; vietnamnam@yahoo.com :D

As your work will take you to Suzhou for a considerable period, I am sure you will not have problems finding kakis to play with.Unfortunately the place is not on my radar sceen to visit at the present moment. Most of my trips out of Sydney are centred around Malaysia and Hong Kong.Who knows maybe we can still play badminton somewhere in the wide world of badminton. All the best.

Dear Dream Hai,

Thank you for correcting my Vietnamese.Yes Nguyen T Minh is certainly a quite a facinating player to watch. I agree that Jeffers was no match against Minh because of the hard match he had against that Korean player in the s/f.
Also Jeffers is just a steady stroke player which Minh can deal easily because of his speed.I am sure his training in Germany hasl improve his game furthe. I thought the match of the day in the the Robotic Tournament finals was the ladies singles match between the Korean player and Thai player. The Thai player was much better player with very deceptive drop shots from the back.I think she was unlucky not to have won the rubber. The Korean lady was retrieving from impossible positions and mentally strong.
I don't know when I will be in Vietnam again. All the same, thank you for your kind offer of the advice of the places to play in HCMC.I am not too familiar with Binh Thanh and I know it's after crossing the bridge pass Dien Bien Phu at the very huge roundabout and to the left.It covers a huge area. I have been there for some Vietnamese pancakes and also have sam bor lueng drink along a road after yet another bridge there.Keep it up being an ambassador of the game in Vietnam.Should one day you find yourself in Sydney and want a game of badminton in Sydney, you can contact me at permanis@hotmail.com.

All the best and keep in touch.

For all Vietnamese badminton fans, the best news up to date is that your Nguyen Tien Minh is suddenly becomng a world class player considering that he beat beat the No.3 Malaysia Thomas Cup singles player Kuan Beng Hong 20-17, 20-22 and 22-20 to reach the QF of the Philipines Open finals on 25/5/2006. I am not familiar with Hanoi as I have never play there. However you may like to approach those players who play outdoor around Lenin Square or at the roundabout going to West Lake. Ask them where there are indoor gyms are and I am sure you can have some results. I have seen quite good players there. They only play until 7.00a.m and after that they are all gone-disappeared.
Now....any Hanoians, please help Kameil1.I too also like to know.

I am desperately looking for an indoor badminton court in HCMC under the following criteria:

- user-friendly for non-Vietnamese speakers.

Any suggestions?

Regarding your plight wanting to book a court, its a never ending story of not enough badminton courts to go around in HCMC.This is not Singapore or HK where the first come first serve booking of community sport centres courts are strictly enforced. Most courts in HCMC are booked out permanently to organisations, corporations or unis/colleges/schools as well as for coaching purposes. My suggestion for you is either join a badminton club in town or if not, move to live in D7 (or thereabout) where the gigantic apartment complexes have in house badminton facilities for residents use. Then you can play to your heart's content without having to worry about even booking a badminton court (tranparent or otherwise).

Hello Dalelee,

I have seen some foreign players (Indians and Europeans) playing badminton at the Cercle sports club along Nguyen Thi Minh Khai ( the huge club with all the tennis courts opposite the sports shops) on Sundays from 4-6pm.

Just go to the badminton hall in the club and you can see these players playing badminton in the two wooden courts. Their standard are average (not beginner level).

See if their playing standard is to your level and if so, ask the organiser if you can join them. Otherwise you may have to look for another place to play. No point playing with too low/too high a standard from yours.

Otherwise you can go to Le Van Tam park and there are many people playing there. All sorts of standards are found there. Make sure you can make yourself understood in Vietnamese as I don't see any foreigners playing there. It starts around 6.00am and finish around 7.30am and its in the open air.

Good luck

Hi Dalelee,

I don't have the contact number of the organiser, sorry. I suppose if you turn up for the first time and play, you don't need to register. But once you become a permanent feature, the normal procedure is for the organiser to record your name and address and you pay a monthly fee. (you may even be booted out if you don't pay). That means you can play with the grouop booking the court regularly.
If you are don't want to be committed, then see if the group will accept user pay concept ( you pay as you play).I know that's not as popular and convenient. They will ask you to book your own court and play by your self.

So.... it's best you turn up at Cercle Sports like an ordinary person. Sit quietly at the back and quietly observe/assess the standard of play of these players. As I told you the standard is pretty average with three or four sharper players. So if the standard is alright, and then introduce yourself. In the court there is a veteran ( in the sixties) player wearing red yonex shoes.Perhaps you should approach him as age is such a respecful thing in Vietnam.

I did not ask if you might be a lady player. This is because there are ladies the next court and they seems to be always short of players.

Good luck

Hi everybody,

The Vietnamese translation for Cercle Sportiff is Cung Van Hoa Lao Dong and it is located at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai. The 2 badminton courts are very popular and you just have to turn up & see if the standards there are to your expectation and whether they are prepared to take you in.

Being a foreigner, I like going to this place to see people playing badminton while shopping for badminton rackets and shoes round the corner especially when there is nothing else to do on weekends.

Thanks

Hi CornChip,
Are you Vietnamese?
Is it possible for me to join your club as well? I'm intermediate player but I really love to play. Is there any foreigner in your club? I'd like to practice English sometimes?
Actually, I play with my company in this T19 club every Saturday 11am - 1pm.

Hear from you soon,

Hi kc2626,
Did you buy the racket yet? I think you can go to Hong Sport shop located on A43 Ky Dong street, Dist 1, HCMC (tel: 08 39250 146).
Are you playing in any club in HCMC? Can you share the schedule? I'd like to join if any.

Do these courts sell rackets too? My gf is in VN and I was hoping she could pick up some rackets for me, but I don't know any shops besides a couple I found on the site. Maybe the courts have shops there too? It would be helpful if you guys can tell which shops sell real Yonex?

Hi all!

I am desperately looking for an indoor badminton court in HCMC under the following criteria:
- central location (Q1 or Q3 best)
- courts systematically available in the evening during weekdays (through transparent booking or the such)
- user-friendly for non-Vietnamese speakers.

Any suggestions?

Cheers

I left HCMC but I did finally find a very good place to play during my last weeks there. I am sorry for the lack of details, but it shouldn't be too hard to find with my indications:

Q11 (?) in the small stadium next to a bigger one, circa 10 courts at the second floor. 25 000 VND a hour or maybe 15 000. Easy to get a court on Sundays and Saturdays, especially close to lunch hours (tends to fill up after the lunch break, so I would guarantee it at 100%); apparently even easier to get a court during business hours during week days.

I am sorry these indications are very incomplete. But I would have loved to find even half of this during my first months in the country...

Looking for a well known club that has a young group (U18). Price is no problem. Skill level that i'm looking for is competitive at a city level. I can speak vietnamese decently and understand it very well but broken with english when responding so having an english friendly club is good too.
Was hoping to improve greatly while on vacation with the hot weather making birds go faster and all that.

You can join us if you want! We have some beginners too! We often have a "practice" section everyday that the good ones will help the newbies some skills but not professional as the formal training!
Hey, just a right time, my wife needs some girlfriends to play with! Nice, huh?

Take you around 30 mins to reach the court! Please use this website http://www.diadiem.com/ which can give you a good estimation to any places in HCM.

FYI, Our Malaysian member staying in Phu' My Hung town usually needs around 30 mins to reach the court.

Perhaps I can meet you somewhere close by the venue. I don't want you to go out of your way. Regardless i'll have look at your map and the one back at the hotel and see if I can match the two. I have to leave internet now and will be back on line tomorrow. Thanks for your help so far.

I played with Hieu and his team last year around the end of December or beginning of January. It was very fun and was high level of badminton. It took me awhile to find somewhere in Vietnam to play with that kind of lvl, but once I found it, I'll be sure to head over @ Hieu's place whenever I go back to Vietnam.
On the side note, I was not used to playing in the heat and humidity of Vietnam badminton and was exhausted and panting after playing 1 match haha.

Thx again Hieu,
John

Hello,
I recently moved to HCMC and interested in playing badminton. I am average to a notch above average and looking forward to joining a group that plays on a regular basis. Anywhere close to District 1 is best. Can someone guide me to clubs or groups I can contact.

Many thanks

Dear anaconda5722

There is a Malaysian badminton club at Madam Curie School, Le Quy Don Street. Some girls from Petronas play there. Play Tuesday/Thursday evenings 7.00pm onwards. Maybe you can approach Mr. CK Teoh the badminton organisor whether you can join it. They are a friendly lot mostly Malaysian expats.

About cheap and nice badminton shops, most are in D1. Try the sport shops opposite New World Hotel near Ben Thanh market or the street behind the Ex Presidential Palace. You can get what you want there..... rackets, shoes, socks, wrist bands, bags,
t shirts, shorts, shuttlecocks, nets..... you name it they have it. I used to buy everything there. 15 sport shops in a row.

If you need any help, see some of the postings here in the forum for assistance. Cheers

Hi Skycrawler,

I can't see a badminton court in District 1 other than the Madam Curie School in Le Quy Don Road which District 3. Maybe you should get in touch with those who has posted in the forum and welcome ppl (Mr. Hieupt has been very helpful in this forum) who might be able to arrange a game at their courts.

However it would be your interest to first see the playing standard meet your requirements or vice versa.Otherwise if standard too different , both parties won't enjoy the game. As you say you are average and above average, it's a matter of finding players of the same standard. Good luck.

Hi!
I am planning to visit Vietnam for the month of August. My parents told me i will be staying in District 5 with my aunt. I'm 21 years old and my younger brother is 16. We both are not good (I've been playing recreational for about 6 years and my brother less than 2) but we would like to experience it here in Vietnam. Any Recommendation or suggested place we can play some friendly (and maybe a little competitive games?) . [I also hope its not hard to get around there area]

Thank you

Hi All,
I will be in HCMC the last half of November and was hoping to play at least a little badminton while I'm in town. I'm a little above average player when my knees hold-up. We will be staying in different parts of the city thoughout the trip so I don't mind traveling half hour or so to get in a few hours of play. Any court ideas would be helpful.
THANK YOU!

Hello folks,

Well, like most people here, I'm looking for a place to play badminton on a regular basic (if possible). I will be in Ho Chi Minh for a couple of months, until march, and I work from home so I'm quite fexible with my schedule. I also know a few motorbikes drivers who can pretty much bring me anywhere in town. I still don't have badminton equipment (I didn't bring those from Canada) but I'll buy some if I can find a place to play. Is there still a badminton group playing in District 10 on saturday mornings? I'd say my level of play is in the high range of intermediate, but it's all relative isnt it? I need to sweat a bit or I'll get fat with all the good food here in Vietnam!

Hi Arkherps,
You can go to Mai Loan sport shop in Nguyen Trai Street(don't remember exactly address), District 5. It's next to 2nd Central Sport and Gym University and back of Dentistry Department of Ho Chi Minh Medicine University, hope you'll find out it easily. The quality of stringing in there is very good, Tien Minh(as you may khow)-Vietnam No1 badminton player(World No9) often string there before partcipate in a tournament. Finally, you don't be worried about the price, it's not so expensive but absolutely cheaper than stringing in USA

Bump.

Any idea on where to play during week evenings? I will explore the earlier suggestions in the thread, but not sure if they're still valid. I'll go to Marie Curie school at dinner time and see if I can find the person organizing badminton.

Also, I finally got a Yonex racket and had it strung (is that the correct verb?) with BG65, but I'd like to know if anyone has a suggestion where I can find 'ok' badminton shoes that are not so expensive. I'll try the bunch of sport shops close to the New World Hotel later today, but maybe someone has a better suggestion for shoes?

By the time this message was published, I bought badminton shoes and all required equipment. All I'd need now is a few pointers on where I could find badminton courts in District 10 or 5... I will try a place that was previously disclosed in District 10, saturday from 10am to 1pm, but I think the person who organised it is now in France for a year...

Hello Willy0275,
Where did you find some shoes? Are they any cheaper than buying in Canada or US?

Well, they have shoes at many shops here, but I bought mine at a tennis and badminton shop close to the New World Hotel in district 1. They mostly sell "Prince" products and have a few badminton shoes, but mostly tennis. Anyhow, I bought my badminton shoes for around USD$40 I think, but I can't tell you if he any cheaper here because I don't know the quality of the shoes I bought. They work fine so far. In Canada I have Yonex shoes I paid 120$, and I went to another shop before here in Saigon that had similar prices for Yonex shoes. I also bought Prince shirts and shorts and it was quite cheap, total of 35$ for two shirts and two shorts, although they had much more expensive clothes too.

About the shoes, you can go to Loan Sport shop in 3thang2 street, opposite of Hoa Binh Center of Performing Art.

There is a nice badminton place in Dist 10, called the "T19", has around 10 courts and open 7 days a week, but we need to reserve a court in advance. Let me know once you're here and we can see court availibility and maybe play a few games :-) I'm playing already with friends on tuesday and thursday evenings, but it's far and can't invite anyone there as I'm only a guest... HCMC is huge and it depends on where you are going to stay. Your intermediate standard is very subjective and one cannot make a judgement unless one’s know your standard. Badminton is most popular in the evenings and all day weekends. There are indoor courts at Cercle Sportiff (I think it is called Cung Van Hoa Lao Dong in Vietnamese), Ky Hoa, Madam Curie school, Thanh Thai and Dao Duy Anh in Phu Nhuan district and there are more places to play further away from the city in Binh Thanh district.
These places have lots of varying standard of play from beginners to district players.
So I suggest you turn up at one of these places. Sit and enjoy the play. If there is a group of players that is to your playing standard, introduce yourself and let them know your standard is similar to theirs, and ask if you can play with them. If yes, you are in luck. If not… well try another place.
Otherwise there are the open air courts in the parks and they are very popular.
You don’t want to travel too far to play because of the traffic jam.
Hope the info helps

I would recommend that you take the young players for a holiday there. There is so much to see...and historically and cultural it is quite facinating and its food is always interesting. Because you are going in a group, you should get the service of a local travel agent in Singapore to organize the logistics…book air-tickets, hotels, airport pick up, tours, sightseeing and meals. Someone got to do all these things.
As for badminton, you did not indicate the playing standard . As Hungle said, you can play with the HCMC team ( half of the national team) but you should consider your own standard. It is harder to organize friendlies here compared to say Malaysia where there are literally hundreds of clubs alone in KL ( just look at the sticky posts) or in the case of Hong Kong, each of the private flats have their own indoor aircon courts. My advice is just leave your badminton racket at home and just enjoy your holidays in Vietnam. Cheers.

Hi Hungle,
I have never lived in Vietnam but I have been there many many imes over the years for work… mostly HCMC. Because I like to play the game, I bring my racket when travelling and try to find a place to play. I have played in all these places in HCMC including Pho Quang in Phu Nhuan district which recently closed its door (turned it to a university campus). Very sad indeed for badminton players. Wonder where all the hundreds of players are going to play.
I try my best to guide keen badminton players especially to find a place to play be it in Sydney or elsewhere. Some people just need a game of badminton as part of their every day life and get a bit of exercise or get to meet interesting people in the badminton court. I cannot speak a word of Vietnamese ( except for the basic like good day or thank you). But one need not know the language to play the game… sign language will do. I will be visiting HCMC this June and hopefully I can have a game or two now that the courts in Pho Quang which is nearest to my hotel are gone.

Cheers

Hi Hungle,

I will probably go to the Malaysian group at Madam Curie. I am more familiar there as I know the players and organisor well. The standard is not too high but it is fine with me as I can make the players run for a change. It's more fun and less serious.I will keep your email address just in case.

Thanks

Hi Hungle,

Not sure who your source of information is but certainly this is not true. The fact is that the coach needs to be in Vietnam all the time to train Nguyen Nhung's skill, speed, strategy, stamina and strength ( not necessary in that order). As for me, I just drop into HCMC every few months. So it cannot be me, right?

My club play in weekday but from 5am-7am, in addition, it is very far from Sheraton to my club (~15km) So thinkyou can not come, right?
Near your hotel, there is a gorverment office club in Le Duan District, just 11-2km from Sheraton but I don't know anyone there. I think you can come to Marie Curie shool in Le Quy Don Street (not sure but about 3-4km from your hotel), just come when you free and ask people there to play with... In you need more support, please email to me trunghungleba@yahoo.com.vn

Is there any professional badminton institute/school/academy at Ho Chi Minh City?

Regards

One of these days staying in Ho Chi Minh city for business, studying or traveling, if you need, you could play badminton at one of many inhouse courts in:
1. The Cultural Housing of Labor, 55B, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai st, dist 3. Three wooden-floor courts.
2. The Ky Hoa club on campus of Ky Hoa hotel, Ba Thang Hai st, dist 10.Four carpeted courts.
3. The Rang Dong club, 353 alley,Nguyen Trong Tuyen st, dist Tan Binh.Three carpeted courts.
4. The Phu Tho club, 1 Ly Thuong Kiet st,dist 11. Ten wooden-floor courts.
5. The 7th Military Region club, Hoang Van Thu st, dist Phu Nhuan. Four wooden-floor courts
...
The badminton playing fee in HCMC may be cheapest in the world, about 1.5 USD per hour (not including shuttle cock). Further, if you stay there in a long time, you could register to become a member of above clups.
WELCOME!:)

Hey, I'll be in Vietnam from Dec 26-Jan 14. I would like to play a few times while I am there.
I have played before @ T-19 Courts with Cornchip(Phuong). I don't have his contact anymore though. I am an intermediate-advanced player that hasn't played in awhile and will just be looking to hit around with decent players at the least. LMK if anyone wants to take me under their wing hehe.
Thx,
John (Lam).
