View Full Version : Was Lin Dan really panting quite a bit during the final?
crazy_smasher 03-22-2005, 08:50 PM My friend remarked that Lin Dan was panting in his game against Chen Hong at some stages in game 2 and 3.
Anyone noticed that or can confirm if this true?
Actually, i never see Chen Hong panting at all, he seems always breathing normally with his mouth only slightly open. I heard that he is the best runner in the chinese team, clocked dunno around 10-11 min in 3 km. Is that true?

Brave_Turtle 03-22-2005, 11:12 PM WowWw 3km is 11 min!!! Thats really really fast!
hcyong 03-23-2005, 12:19 AM That is 20 seconds for every 100 m, for the duration of 10 mins. Incredible. I just checked. The world record for 3000m is 7:20.
Morten 03-23-2005, 03:17 AM heh I can run that too so I dont think its that incredible
heh I can run that too so I dont think its that incredible
You mean you can run 3000m in 7.20 min? :D
Big Slick 03-23-2005, 04:09 AM According to Bo's book, the fitness index target zone for elite men's singles players is 68-73. Fitness index of 68 tranlates to running 3,600m in Coopers's 12 minute running test. So that would seem about right.

I should think he meant he can run 3000m in 11 min. He won't break any world record with that!;)

He is not the only one. If you are familiar with Marat Safin,a top ranked tennis player, the night before a match he will go out to the club and you would see him with a drink in his hand and smoking into the late hours. In Marat's situation, it really doesn't affect him, if his game is on-amazing, if his game is off- you will see some racquet bashing and cussing. Marat is also known as the bad boy of tennis at this time. I do believe that badminton players are fitter and have more athleticism than tennis players.
Shuttlebugs 03-23-2005, 06:19 PM i thought peter gade smokes too, when i met him his teeth were stained black and he smelt of cigarettes...

fanatico 03-23-2005, 09:58 PM 11 min for 3km is not such a big deal for professional players and yes i think i saw lin dan panting after the 2nd game.

I somehow can't believe this at all! Peter Gade is too "professional" and perfectionist for that...

I'm really sorry for all those professionals who smoke. :(
Now here's a chance to pin dpwn LinDan for his loss in AE
1) He was on drugs, carry out a urine test
2) He was smokong, bad role model for badminton promotion
3) He was injured, he should have retired
4) He gave the game to Chen Hong, he was gulty of
not wanting to win badly, he should have aggravated his injury so that he would lose in the world champs and also make way for new stars in China.
Anatolii 03-24-2005, 04:20 AM I'm really sorry for all those professionals who smoke. :(i dont know if they are worthy to be sympathised with, especially since they are professional players.. unless they've been brought up to smoke since childhood or something, which i think is unlikely.
anyway, we digress from the original topic. crazy_smasher, why don't you watch the match again and judge for yourself?

I have not seen n do not have it :( n not likely to be able to get it
I have just seen the HK version.
I didn't see any panting but LinDan
looked lost in sets 2 & 3.
chinadoll 03-25-2005, 05:42 PM what's wrong with smoking..??? it's their own freewill isn't it???
i do know that some of the chinese players smoke.... but maybe their coach doesn't know.... hahaha :p
chinadoll 03-25-2005, 05:45 PM btw i think Lin Dan lost maybe because he was tired... 3 games for most matches.... and the bandage on his knees could mean muscle strain hence causes his speed and movement to become slower....
he was also losing concentration after the 1st set, which i think he played the 1st set pretty well.... hiaz...

Can't be because Chen was using NS8k :p
prince_user 03-25-2005, 06:37 PM At first I thought he did give away the match on purpose so I decided to watch some earlier matches of his.
After having seen the German 2004, Denmark, China and All-England semifinal again I have come to the conclusion that he did not give it away, rather he simply lost focus. The most obvious example of this would be the AE-SF against Wong Choong Hann where he blew a huge lead to lose the second set. This type of behavior is also exhibited in the China Open against Bao Chunlai where Lin Dan gave away a string of points ( although he did not lose the game ).
Granted, this was the longest period where he gave away the points but we have to consider the the opponent was another Chinese player. In this case when the inevitable came maybe Lin Dan just gave up.

Smoking's real bad.
80 % of people in China smoke, you can say there is Chinese dominance/hegemony in smoking but Westerners dont seem to mind.
Smoking causes serious damage to the body which manifests itself in later life.
I fact there is a worldwide ban on advertising by tobacco and alcohol companies.
So tobacco & alcohol cos cannot sponsor sports events ,
some even suggest that Yonex should be included, that means no more badminton on TV.

chinadoll, cigarette smoke negatively affects the environment. smoking is an eyesore. if those are not wrong enough, it damages every part your body.

Its a fact that alot of pple smokes there. Their cigs there are dirt cheap... a box for 2RMB? Singapore a box for SGD $9~10 dollars... so its only 40 cents a box there and each is abt 2 cents only. whereas a cig here cost abt 50cents...
To sum in up
It burns your money and your life
