Anders Boesen could go up against Chen Jin in the second round. Earlier today, Anders would have to put out Yeoh Kay Bin first.
Lee Cheol Ho and Sairol Amar Ayob cross swords in the the first round.
The most high-quality first round belongs to Hafiz and Gong Weijie.
Finally, a Lee Tsuen Seng and Xia Xuanze match in on the cards for round 2.

Nothing interesting for the XD matches today, but looking at the list of entries, Jung Jae Sung/Lee Kyung Won look like they could win this title. They are at the top half of the draw along with Sudket/Saralee and Laybourn/Juhl. Lee Jae Jin and Lee Hyo Jung look good for the bottom half.

JEFFER ROSOBIN = 1996 asian champion (beat rashid), and 2004 pakistan satellite champ (beat marleve). dunno about other exploits but should be ranked top 5 in indonesia singles........... tho not training with pelatnas.

Mark Zwiebler, the current German champion with a victory in the finals over Bjoern Joppien recently, is ill. On the Easter Sunday there was a hard finals day of the German "Bundesliga", and we (my Badminton Club BC Beuel to which Mark Zwiebler belongs) won the German team championship. After that there was a open end party with free beer (unlimited!). He got a flu and an ophthalmia (inflammation of the eyes) already.

Hwang, Jungwoon is relatively new on the international badminton circuit. But he was the third at the last World Junior Championship 2004 and lost to the reigning champion Chen Jin. He is 184 cm and 66 kilos. Born in 1986.

Chen Jin beat Boessen in 3 sets - not bad as Boessen was a top tenner. Gong Weijie had a strange game: taking the first 15-8 then 1-15, 1-15 to Hafiz.

The surprise was the failure of the top Chinese juniors in the Q's. WS Wang Yihan No.3 in the WJC lost in the 1st Rd to Hongkong's Pun who was also in Vancouver.For some reason, the WJC XD TianJing/He Hanbin was split - she played with He Hanjing and he with Zhou Yunlei and both lost. Another young Chinese MD pair ousted.Only Jiang/Zhou -WD, He Hanbin/He Hanjing - MD and Wang Lin the 15 y.o World Junior No.3 managed to get into the main draw.
LeeTS should not be a problem for XiaXZ on the last match of tonight. Y

Initially Hafiz is a very reactive player, simply playing along with the pace his opposition sets, defending, with the occasional counter attack. He becomes more attacking towards the middle and end of his games.

Not sure whether it is his natural style or he is coached that way, but he always seems to be that way when I have seen him. He has the retrieving abilities of his brother, with the height and attacking capabilities of most good attacking players (although he varies the pace and angles well). couple that with good (sometimes excessive) deception, and that is hafiz. I feel this reactive style is partly why he is inconsistent, as he can find it hard to get into the game after chasing it initially.

I wouldnt be so sure. Yes LTS is on the up, and is dangerous, but I would never discount Xia, especially since he will want to defend his title (and to do so he will need to prove to LYB he is likely to be a threat)

In the MS, the last 16 places are occupied by the seeds, except for Chen Jin (as expected) and Ismail Saman (not unexpected). In the XD, second seeds New Zealanders Shirley/Runesten lost to a home pair.

The 1st round WS matches are completed. With some of the top players missing, the spread of nationalities for the 2nd round is very wide.
2 each from Taiwan, Singapore and Korea.
1 each from Denmark, France, England, Netherlands, Germany, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Thailand and Japan.
None from China although 5 are Chinese exports, and at least 4 more (Malaysia, Taiwan, HK) are Chinese descendants. Not sure if Salakjit and the Indonesian player are descendants as well.
