hello everybody!
i have bought an MP 99 and then found out that it was fake. ..however, i have come up with a guide to help people how to tell the difference!:D here is a list of what I think you can check to see if a racquet is real or not:p
1. The serial Number, (checking to see if it the date is BEFORE the date you got it)
2. The grip
3. The flex
4. If it spins smoothly (If you hold a racquet by it's shaft and just spin it you will see what i'm talking about. if the racquet does not spin smoothly, then it could be a fake)
5. The case it comes in (NOT in all scenarios)
well that's my way of checking, i've had some experience  :o :crying:
anyways if anyone else knows of any other ways you can check them by all means tell me! so that i don't get ripped off again! :)

Where did you get the racquet? If it's from a retailer store then I better watch out, because we live in the same city ^^;

Some ways to know if a racket is fake by:
If the serial number is printed and not engraved.
If the cap is bumpy on the bottom.
If the cap does not reflect light. (not shiny)
If the paint is off color or words are blurred.
Did you buy from eBay?

Those are only a few ways to tell if a racquet is fake.
Bluejeff has a website up comparing a fake and authentic mp77, but I forgot the url. Can someone post it again? The mp 77 is similar to the mp99, so just compare them.

Not to sound mean or anything but "real" like the last time? :D . Instead of eBay try www.badmintonalley.com (http://www.badmintonalley.com/) next time. they have great selection and authentic rackets. :D

from ebay i've gotten 2 racquets...
MP 99 - FAKE!
Armortec 800 DE - Real!, i used all my methods of checking to see if it's real and it passed all of them!
anyways the reason i buy racquets off ebay is because they are cheaper...e.g.
on ebay i can get a Nanospeed 7000 for around $200 CDN dollars, while on Badminton Zon it is 239.99CDN without tax or shipping...and i know, that the badminton zon is more trustable, but i'd rather save a bit of money...
anyways i bought my armortec off this ebayer called sumai03, and if you look in under the "ebay auction watch" sticky post, you can find out who sells real and who sells fake, i searched there before i made any decisions. now when i buy racquets off ebay i am very picky lol

ting03just curious, what distribution area is the NS7000 you bought? i believe NS7000 TW version costs something like $165 CDN in taiwan ;)
edit: sorry, i misread. what distribution code of the NS7000 did you see? also, congrats on getting your AT800DE, how much did you get it for? and what distribution area is that one? :)
edit again:
if you bought your racket at www.mattshop.com.tw (http://www.mattshop.com.tw) (taiwanese store) the shipping to canada would be 0.5kg for NT$230 (approx. CDN$9) or 1.0kg for NT$385 (approx. CDN$15)
i've never bought rackets at this shop, but its been mentioned a couple of times. just thought it'd be good if i pointed this out, for future reference ;)

lol.... There are a few place sto buy racquets in the area ting03 lives in. So the only reason would be because he wants to buy cheaper racquets =)
But it's hard to trust them, I mean... What if there's a small paint chip? What can you do if there's one? leave it? Or bite on the guy?
I'm thinking of buying strings on ebay though, dunno the cons of it.

good luck with the AT800DE.. what racket were you using before this? i used a MP55 2U until this week, when i got someone to bring a AT800DE for me from taiwan. so far i've played with it twice (bg 65 @ 25lb) and its very good compared with MP55

my coach has a fake mp99 and 100.1look at it and i knew it was both a fake.he admitted to me and told me he bought it from china.a few points to take down too on how different it looks.
mp99-orange in color.although there is still yellow from afar you can see its a little orange.
-serial no not engraved
-grommets look rough
mp100-t joint isnt the normal flat t joint.it was thoe proturding things just like the melted joint has that protuding design.its difficult to explain only that that tjoint is the saem as proace speed ultra light carbon and some ashaway rackets too.
-shaft was shorter than normal.
-yonex logo was faded
-serial no not engraved

BAYVIEW?! you mean like the school near the Wal-Mart on Bayview and major Maac? are you and IB student? and what grade are you? i am in grade 10 this year so i might face you in the tournaments!:D but i remember last year playing as a grade 9....i was watching a game, waiting for my turn to come, i saw this bayview dude playing boys doubles at one tournament...and he was really pissed cause he kept hitting the frame, missing the birdie, getting smashed on becuz partner gave the other team a free kill almost etc...he kept yelling at his partner and he threw his racquet on the ground! and just to be sure, bayveiw secondary's uniform colour was like a purple rite? cause i think that guy was in a pruple uniform...and don't tell me it was YOU ........:o anyways, last year i played mixed... just becuz i was grade 9...even tho i was better than some grade 10's the coach still made me play mixed  but the funny things was, i got 3rd in York region at the regionals...:o that's pretty sad, becuz the girl i was with didnt play badminton and back then i sucked...i didn't even have the proper equipment or technique :o
ok well, most likely the racquet is fake...but i dunno... does it actually say CHINA on the shaft? or just "CH"?and wat do you mean it says Japan on the cap...the bottom green part of the racquet? and anyways did you give it my test? :D go back to the first page of this thread and read lol :p

Errr no I'm probably not the one you saw. Yes I goto that school but I'm in gr 9 this year. I didn't make the team lol, so ... No chance of facing me ^^:;
Maybe next year haha. Your team might lose when you face ours though ;P
Hmm... CH means the racquet is being sold in China right? So just CH alone doesn't prove the racquet's authetic or not.... Correct?

just a small update....i own an armortec 800 DE, and while my friends and i were playing on night, i traded racquets to use to a game with my friend who had a fake armortec 800 De, not only was the colour different, but we both supposedly had 4U racquets, and his was much lighter...and also much
flexible-er...
anyways some poeple have said somewhere on this forum that fake racquets also give a "dead" feeling when hitting the shuttle...at first i didn't know wat it meant, but yesteraday i finally sorta knew what it meant. upon using his..it was sorta...like  ok i dunno how to explain it...but if you try a real then a fake racquet of the same Specs and same model then you will know what i am talking about...

What cooler means is that fake racquet (like that 4u mp99) is not quality controlled. They maybe ultralight or ultraheavy. Regardless, each fake racquet still gets a "4u" sticker. Your racquet should be the weight it states...unless you suspect its authenticity .

OK, everyone keeps talking about how we should carefully examine racquets to see if they are authentic. The problem is no one ever tells us how this is done. I want to purchase a Yonex NANOSPEED 7000 but I'm not sure what I should be looking for besides the serial #'s to be sure of it's authenticity. Can anyone help me out?

Fakes are really well "faked" these days, there are many ways you can check.
Spin the racket on the shaft n see if its balanced on the head
Check the grommets quality if they are all same length
Shake the racket, sometimes it makes a noise lol
Check paint finish, fake armortecs you can tell at the top of the head
Compare your racket cover with a real one, "see loads of fakes on ebay"
Xray to find T-joint?
And if the price is really cheap, then its most probably fake.. *e.g. china* lol

Not a reliable way. Different region dealers can order his/her own bag. Even say, someone gives me a MP99 in a Cab bag, I can't say the MP99 must be fake, as the bag is not right.

Ok with all that being said, along with things to look for, do most fake racquets have the serial numbers in which everyone seems to think makes them authentic? And if I'm buying over ebay, is there anything I can do to be sure? (e.g, pictures, serial #'s,...etc.) is there anyone who can check serial #'s?

on ebay there are only 2 confirmed AUTHENTIC dealers...i think...their I.D's are Sumai03 and tum98, i suggest you don't buy from ebay unless you buy from those 2
i myself, bought a racquet from sumai03 and it's real...
another way that i found out how to tell a real from a fake is it's paint chips...
my friend has a fake armortec and he kept hitting the frame one day, and when we were resting we saw that many of his frame shots actually chipped off paint from the racquet!! at the top of the head where it said "armortec" he chipped the M on the word armortec and it became "ar ortec"!! lol, we both have AT 800 DE models, mine's real and his is fake...and mine hasn't had a paint chip yet...and sometimes i hit the frame really hard... :p

Look out for features that the racquet is suppose to have. For example, the MP99 is suppose to have a special strip of black grommets near the t-joint area as I've seen fake ones lacking in those.
I suggest people buy from those who show close up pictures of different details of the racquet so you can make sure if it's real or not.
But more or less, I think both tum98 and sumai03 has NS7000 on sale, so go ahead and buy from them :)
