Just wondering, is there or has there been any movies or television programs (sitcoms, drama, etc., *not* documentaries) prominently featuring badminton? You know like, for instance, Million Dollar Baby, Raging Bull, Rocky, etc. for boxing; Wimbledon for tennis; Days of Thunder for (NASCAR) racing; BBC's Dream Team, Escape to Victory (not sure about the title, it's one with Stallone playing a goalkeeper, Pele, Sir Bobby Charlton, et al. playing for the Allied team against a German team) for soccer, etc.
I'm not a movie buff by any stretch of the imagination, but I can't think of any western movie that features competitive badminton as its main theme or even as its story background.
Anyone?

Funny, I was thinking the other day about making a similar post.
For starters, I know that the Simpsons have two episodes with badminton in it: When you Dish Upon a Star and I'm with Cupid:
Badminton is featured about one minute in each episode.
There is also an episode of the British-Canadian cartoon series Bob and Margaret in which badminton is featured. The episode is entitled Blood, Sweat and Tears.
I have all three episodes on DVD. ;p
As for movies per se, I have a VCD of a movie about golf...featuring Rashid Sidek. I bought in Malaysia.

The only other movie I have is...from Burma! I was in a shopping mall in Singapore when I saw a poster of a movie featuring a beautiful actress with a badminton racquet in her hand. I went in the store and asked if I could buy the poster. They said no. However, I bought the VCD and there is a scene where a couple plays singles outside and the boy (purposely?) hurts the girl with a smash in the face. Strange stuff. Since I don't understand Burmese, I wasn't able to understand much of the plot, but it did seem strange. For the same reason, I can't tell you the title of the movie.
Can't think of anything else for the moment!

Now that you've mentioned it, I do remember the scene with Marge and Manjula playing badminton in Marge's backyard. But, the ones you mentioned don't really have badminton as the main feature. You know, as for instance, golf in Tin Cup or The Legend Of Bagger Vance. IMHO, that's a pity because I think it'd do wonders to promote the sport, especially after the Olympic coverage.
I didn't know Rashid moonlights as an actor? How many other movies has he done? Any of them feature badminton? It'd be a great opportunity to include it, since they've got an actor who can actually play badminton. May be they can do a Wimbledon-esque movie with him in it. Titled "All England", perhaps? :) And they won't even have to CAG-generate the shuttles in the match sequences. Well, they may still have to if they can't find another actor who can at least sustain a rally against Rashid for a few shots. ;)
This can be a topic for a new thread too: how many active or retired players have made the switch to the show business in general and the movie/television in particular? And how successful are they at it? I know Liem Swie King acted in a few movies. Rashid, obviously. Gong Ruina? Anyone else? Players from the European countries? I read somewhere that Camilla Martin is now a radio broadcaster. Has she been tempted to try her hands in acting, movie, television, stage or otherwise?

Badminton brieftly appeared in an episode of 'Prince of Tennis'. Hilarious! :D
Also in one of last year's film comedy featuring HK star Ronald Cheng, but it was just scantily clad ladies holding badminton racquets I think :D

I think it could be a great opportunity for a HK movie producer to do a movie based on badminton... (could be either "rocky"-style or more of a comedy/drama type movie)..
As Badminton is such a popular sport in China, I guess there would be good market potential!!!

PS. And of course ... I would buy it :-)

It'll be nice to have a badminton movie but then what'll it be about ?

Oh, it can be about so many things. The most obvious one is your run-of-the-mill comedy-drama/teen-drama a'la Wimbledon or Ice Castles.

Seriously? It's a biographical story of her? It's not a documentary, is it? Who plays young Ivanna Lie?

Yes... It is not a documentary... it's like a movie... we call it film television here... The title is "Ing,jangan menangis lagi" os something like that.. I'm not so sure... It means... Don't cry,Ing.. Ivanna Lie's nickname is Ing. As I haven't watched it, not sure who plays in it... guess Ivanna Lie and Yuli Marfuah played in the movie... not so sure.. :)

In the latest National lampoon movie "Golddiggers", there is a scene which the main stars play in the backyard with plastic racquets.
BTW, dont waste your time on this movie :)
