View Full Version : The coolest shot you ever made
marshall 04-08-2005, 12:40 AM What's the coolest shot you ever made (so far)? Mine came 2 years ago in a tournament. I was receiving serve in the odd court and the server flicked a medium high one to the sideline. I took 2 steps diagonally back, ending on my right foot, and just had time to hit an around the head I tried to aim between the tramlines. As I watched the shuttle it hit the sideline and skidded straight on for about a yard before moving into the court.
I don't think I'll ever be that lucky again, and I'm not crazy enough to try it on purpose.
this one.... :D

Nephrus 04-08-2005, 01:23 AM hmm about year and a half ago i did a smash from the back and it hit the white strip on the top of the net, but it didn't go over instead it slid from the left end to the right end before it did a perfect landing on the line :D
SWC_Ant 04-08-2005, 01:34 AM wow your shots are crazy.. my best one... is probably last last week.. i was playing open gym locally.. and i think my lift was a little bad... so the opponent smashed it at me (in doubles) .. it was their game point (14-13) and they served. we all thought it was a kill for sure.. but as i blinked my racket swung up, scraped my left shoe (which was in the air for watever reason :o ) and touched the birdie.. and the birdie went high, then dropped just over the net... we were all very surprised.. haha.. we lost in the end though
tsinkoy 04-08-2005, 02:20 AM mine were drop shots that hit the top of the net, then the shuttle did a somersault over to the other court. i've done it a couple of times, and now i'm trying to do it using a backhand crosscourt drop (which i don't think will happen, but i'll try anyway ).:D
cappy75 04-08-2005, 07:28 AM Mine was a perfect netshot taken from the floor after the opposition made a very good drop shot to the center forecourt. I rushed and stretched myself to full lunge at the shot and the return just raise and flipped over the tape perfectly. Incidentally it was a nylon shuttle, go figure:rolleyes:.
cchyboy 04-08-2005, 09:11 AM mine was a super hard smash that the sound was so damn loud and metallic and the shuttle ended up hitting on top of the net, spinning for 5 seconds and then drop gracefully to the ground.i was so happy lOL :) .
i also did a couple of beautiful net shorts and drop shorts forcing my opponents to bend so hard, most of the times missing them, cause they all hit the net then hit the ground.

Wow, 5 whole seconds? Are you sure? That's a very long time for a birdie to spin on the net.......
I have only ever hit one proper jump smash where I was in the right place at the right time to position myself to jump from behind and to power through it as you should using the proper technique and footwork.
I remember it fondly and have never been able to do it again :crying:

that is SO true. the coolest shots are the ones that are executed properly, with perfect techniques, timing that results in the most perfect placement. the ones that after you hit it, you knew that it has been done flawlessly. that indeed is the coolest feeling.

Hmm, it didn't strike me that Kwun was a perfectionist ;) (judging by the excellent standard this forum is maintained at)
synkro 04-11-2005, 01:20 PM My best shot ever was copied from Gade Peter :D Except I used it during a doubles game at local highschool tournament (Irvington). It was near the end of a long rally when the opponent in back did a cross clear drop to the front left and I saw that so I was at the net quickly. Leaving my racket out, the front person lunged towards me expecting a drop, but I let the bird drop pass my racket and flicked downwards for a cross drop to the other side. Amazingly, it barely stayed in but we won the point haha.
Note: I've tried this many times for fun during open gyms and it never worked haha.
__Lam 04-11-2005, 06:23 PM My best shot was a perfectly executed jumpsmash that also happened to be the fastest shot that i have ever done, the sound was so loud the whole gym echoed and it was so fast i couldnt even see it. Unfortunetly i was playing with some nooby kid in doubles and he didnt duck and kept his raquet up, he deflected my perfect smash and hit some guy sitting on a bench behind me in the face:eek:... I didnt even see it fly past but i felt a really big breeze blow past me and somthing sounding like a Phooooommm!!! :D lol. The guy ended up with a big bruised cheek lolz:D I saw the bird fly so high up and i jumped just at the right time and put everything i had into it. Too bad though :crying:.
Also, i was using a friends MP77 lol...
alzgodemort 04-11-2005, 07:59 PM I was in a tournament at college and the game I was playing was really important because it was the selection for the provincial tournament.
I had the game point (14-12) and the opponent did a close net shot and thought it would fall. I dived for the shot and managed to put it back in his court. He lifted it to my backhand corner so I sprinted and dived for it again, snapped my wrist and made a perfect drop shot wich felt on the tape. I got up, clinched and said Yeah! I was soooooooo happy :D

surprisingly, that is actually possible!!! i'm another one who has done that shot!! don't know how, but I did it! It just seemed to stay there forever. But the good thing was that it was a match point in the final match!! playing for my High school. 20-20 2nd server.
ChocoChipWaffle 04-11-2005, 10:35 PM lol are these "magic moments" (ie doing a superhuman-smash) what the pros always feel?:D Proves how differnent pros are from us in terms of class and skill:crying:

five seconds is a long time... and iono, the bird is going at a velocity way to high to just balance and spin ontop of the net for that long, if it were a dropshot it would be more believable ;) i was playing basketball a year ago and i did a shot that was similar to kwuns, i threw the ball and it got wedged in between the backboard and the hoop lolz:D

CounterD 04-11-2005, 11:38 PM About 3 months ago i was playing at my local gym with some begginners.
There was no challege at all but i did remember one shot from the begginers that ill remember for the rest of my life. Well we were playing doulbe and was 14-0 up match point. I did a very neat drop shot from the baseline and the other team was playing side by side so they had no chance of getting to the shuttles so one of the guys threw his racket and amazingly it just hit the shuttle and went over the net.
I was like AHAHAHHAHA WTF!!! and then said ok u guys win Thats the best thing ive seen in my life.
Oh BTW the racket broke to haha
bighitter 04-12-2005, 05:21 PM I am improving my smash so much recently thats it pretty much every week. My smash is becoming so unbeatable that my coach has told me not to over stretch :( . I am probably the only one in my age group who actually reaches round to use the over head smash as insetad where msot use a back hand lob.Its a lot more effective. Problem I have is my arm is hurting and also my dominating smash means I don't get to play my other shots as much. So my other shots especially my backhand lob are ata stand still . So yeah pretty much every few weeks :-p. although i did this amzing back hand slice from the back about 2 months ago which literally just went over. That was sooo cool!:D
Pball 04-13-2005, 01:38 AM Mine was about a month ago... we were side by side, the opponents hit an attacking clear, and I was caught flat footed. The bird was falling about 2 feet at my 225 degree (front being 0, and back being 180), I knew I wouldn't be able to hit it, but something made me spin clockwise, and do a backhand flick, the bird was about 18 inches from the floor, went straight, flew about 2 inches over the net, and landed about two feet from the net, right at my stunned opponents feet. By the way, we were all equally stunned.. as no one thought, includng myself, that I would go for the shot.. was good for a few laughs.. :D
chickenpoodle 04-13-2005, 02:02 AM my partner did a cross court clear, and it was returned to our side straight down the tram lines. i was up near the net already, anticipating a weak drop, but was faced with a deep clear instead. my partner was in no position to retrieve it, so in a desperate attempt, i backpeddled and took a swipe at it, and actually hit it. it was very fast, and definitely sailing out... but the net post saw to that. it deflected off the top and rebounded back onto the court, right between the two opponents, who stood there bewildered.
naturally, i raised my arms in an exaggerated manner and cried out "YEAH!" :D

One of the best shot that I've ever performed was a jump smash. I rarely jump smash so I was elated.
We were playing doubles, MXD vs MD. I was in the MD pairing. Me and my partner were front and back. The shuttle was lifted short to the back. My partner ducked, a sure sign that it was my ball, and I was so focused on the shuttle, then I felt myself off the ground doing a jump smash. Not a very powerful smash but enough for a winner.
The feeling up "there" was very surreal. It was like in slow motion. Anybody heard the phrase "playing the zone"? (if you play pool/billiards you've probably heard the phrase) My feeling when I did that jump smash was like that. It just happened without me ever forcing it to happen.

i love my airtime hehehe ... most of my smashes are jump smash now anyways so ... i can get lots of air miles ... hahha
anyways ... for me , since i dont do anything fancy so ... the coolest shots will be this one time that i did a backhand smash, im pretty weak on my backhand mind you (except backhand drop , that i can do just fine). i was playing double against my coach , he smash it to the right , i lunged there and got it , the then lob it to my back hand , no way i could do an around the head stroke so i got in position to do a backhand drop. Since i do that a lot , he kinda expects it and move in a bit close (just a bit) ... at the last minute ... my wrist snaps unnexpectedly ... i dont know why, probably because for once i had all the mechanism in the right order and i was in the right position ... but i thought i heard someone else smash. TURNS OUT IT WAS ME ! i did a back hand smash that was as hard as a normal smash ! IT WAS FROM THE BACK COURT TOO ! it was amazing ! the coach of course couldn't get it he was like "hey ... what the ... cool !". i wont be able to do that shot again for years to come lol
In double after i do a net drop , i sometimes follow it up and raise my racket in an attempt to block a clear ... surprisingly ... i blocked them a lot of them ... i'd say ... 35% (35/100 attempts). I once did it 3 times in one single match hahahah. my friend was a bit embarrassed lol but it was all fun.
too bad i cant received smash between the leg or behind the back yet hehehhe... i will practice when i get better ... people i know always do those shots ... he run for a drop, i faked and clear it into the back ... the runs back and hit it between the legs for a drop ... sigh ... or once i did a jump smash and the bastard got it behind the back ...
jcl49 04-20-2005, 08:45 PM Faked drop (one that look like a smash but not)...but not as consistent as LYB :(
Loopy 04-21-2005, 08:05 AM 4 years ago, playing doubles. I ran to the net left corner to retrieve a drop shot. While doing so I fell on the ground.
The birdie was still in play, my partner exchanged a couple of shots, but I was still down. At that moment, I saw the opponent smashing in the center. I stretched my arm, with my ass still on the ground, and countered the smash, dropping to the net. We won the point.
Everyone was surprised, me included.:p
Woven 04-21-2005, 08:44 AM mine's definitely the one i did a few months ago, a backhand crosscourt jumping smash taufik style:D :D , picture perfect like said by my friends.

i did an amazing shot my birthaday with my new yonex raquet three years ago.i went up to the diagonal back coner and for a cross court drop.i hit it so sweetly and it flew straight and to to the post and hit the top of the net and plopped over.so cool!.it landed straight it the corner
zello 06-30-2005, 07:08 AM Got caught out on a flick serve down the centre to my backhand in a doubles game, so just jumped from my starting position to try to hit it around my head. About at the top of my jump i realised i couldn't reach it, so swung my head and wrist around and managed to get it as an overhead backhand drop shot to the corner. they got it back, and dont' remember how the rally turned out, but it was a pretty cool shot :)
Eurasian =--(O) 06-30-2005, 11:53 AM Well there is no shot that I have ever made that is out of this world amazing... there are many really lucky or great shots but the most amazing shot I've ever been told of was my former doubles partner.
He was in a series tournament playing older players proabbly in thier 30s. One player faked him out at the net then placed an almost perfect cross court net shot. My partner who was totally faked out then threw his racket at the birdie. The racket perfectly spun the bird which then rolled over the net. Everyone was amazed. His opponent argued the call but eventually let it slide. This shot isn't legal but he got away with it :).
legendarycroc 06-30-2005, 12:03 PM last month i think, school tournament
it was doubles, my opponent smashed it in the back right corner... boy, i ran, i pratacally dove and managed to get it, i hit it as hard as i could (it wasa shoulder-leveld hit) and it was the purest bang sound you can ever hear, and it was so fast, it was like a bullet. ANd that was the winning point..for me..:)
Dave18 06-30-2005, 11:28 PM In doubles, someone served to me a long serve, I swung and missed and everyone stood still thinking that it was over. BUT, I did an underhand stroke to hit the bird just in time and it went over the net. :D The whole room was amazed and applauded me. Lol.
three 07-03-2005, 02:07 PM my best shot would have to be a dropshot. a crosscourt backhand dropshot from the baseline, i was at training. we were playing a doubles match and it was something like 13-6 2nd server, which was my partner and she served a really bad shot. it was so high anyone would have just tapped it, but my opponent netted it, my partner played back a net and seeing that i was on the rightside of the court he lifted it straight back to the leftside, but being someone who couldnt use her backhand for nuts i just decided to try a backhand dropshot. i didnt care where it was going but when i hit it, it felt so right and i saw it land on the rightside of the court just after the net on the line. it was the most beautiful shot i ever made. my oppenent clapped for me and my coached clapped for me. but my evil partner laughed at me. she couldnt believe it. HEH.:D
SWC_Ant 07-05-2005, 03:55 AM i have to add another. last week when i was training, i did a drop shot, and it stopped on the net for about 1.5 secs, with the cork on one side and feathers on the other, and then the birdy decided to flip over  i was amazed.. and i dont think i'll make that same shot again.. lol
Drivemaster 08-25-2005, 03:20 AM mine's definitely the one i did a few months ago, a backhand crosscourt jumping smash taufik style:D :D , picture perfect like said by my friends.
My back hand has also improved a lot lately. In the past, I played my backhand like a tennis stroke but now has changed to a proper badminton backhand.
Was playing Mix double the weeks before and was pushed to right corner and retrieved it with a push and the opponent lift the shuttle to the other corner. As I was quite under pressure, I did also a jump backhand smash. My first one and hit a winner. One of my best shot so far.:D
My crazy shot ( Illegal )
Was playing a rather light game. I was approaching the front anticipating a drop return and was given a baseline clear. So i step to the back for a return and this time my opponent's return was a drop. I personally don't think that i can retrieve it since i like 1 step slower. Instinctively for the fun of it, i release my racket and while the racket was floating in the air before it hit the net , the shuttle landed on the string bed and it somehow create a slice net shot. Fortunately the shuttle stumble towards my opponents court while my racket hit then net and both landed on the floor. We were all stumped and had a good laugh. No points was given since its and illegal shot, it was a crazy shot.
