The gym is open 24/7. If the doors open you can go in and play. If the office is closed, you can play for free, since no one there to collect money.
Summersmash info should be on www.tournamentsoftware.com (http://www.tournamentsoftware.com).

Hi
I live really close to San Gabriel Valley Gym and I want to join the gym, but I don't know anybody to play with. I have played badminton before but I am not such a good player. I have been rock climbing and cycling since I don't know anyone that plays badminton. I have been to the gym before but I felt so left out because I did not know anybody there and everyone seemed to come with their own groups.
I just want to make friends with people that are friendly, kind, and consistent.
Thank you.;)

i went to sgvbc a couple of times and i've seen some people left out... you can start chatting with them and hopefully you guys will become friends and start playing with each other. everyone's nice over there and they're all there to have fun so it shouldn't be too hard getting someone to hit with or play a game with... just that some people don't like sucky players so yea... if you're not too good, you better get better fast... hahaha
i had to play with this one guy who had a really short temper and whenever i made a mistake, he made a "tisk" sound... but in my opinion i was better so whatever...
he got mad at me in the middle of the match and started yelling at me... -___-

Hi guys,
I need a partner to play at SGVBC on friday or saturday midnight, the reason I pick midnight is that I am a single player, i think the only time we get to play single game is in midnight like 10 or 11 P.m later.... I don't know, I am not a member at that club. If you are the member and willing to go practice single game with me.....(not every single Friday or Satuday night), I m willing to pay half of your monthly membership fee.
about me:
I 'm considering myself a C player. I practice with my school team twice a week, every week.

Actually reserving a court for one hour would only cost $10.00, so it would be $2.50/person. :D
If you're willing to wait a game or two, you don't need to reserve a court (and pay the reservation fee). Also, you will have no problem finding an additional player, I'm sure there will be lots of people willing to play, just ask. :)

I just want to say THANK YOU to all the guys at SGVBC for the games! I met one of our members Drinksalot aka Dan Chein, really nice guy and can't wait to have some games with him! I was a little out of place when I showed up at SGVBC, but once I met some of the local players I got a few games in. BOY oooh BOY is the level of play HIGH at this club! You get spoiled when you play only one place and know most of the players! I was a bit over confident and maybe even cocky after winning a game! BUT these two gentlemen gave me the ASS KICKING I needed to humble myself for quite awhile! I will be back to get to know many of the players, and enjoy the games!!!!!!! T:D

Looking forward to getting to know you and play more of the POT games.
BTW, I'm a regular POT player too. I had to leave early, so I didn't sign up. Maybe next time.

Don't give in to Robert so easily, he just wants to take advantage of everyone by giving them rediculous handicap points. Robert always gives himself +points and gives everyone -points.
Be persistant in asking for the +8 points, especially if you play against Chris or Basu.:)

I'm better than most begginers and probably not as good as most intermediates. It'd be cool if someone could school me and make my game uber. Any takers?
Come on down! Anyone and everyone's welcome at SGVBC. :D I won't be there until after 9pm today (Thursday) though.
Please PM me when you'll be there. :)
Regards,
Dan

Guys remember badminton is like soccer/football in America! Many other countires live and die by the sport! I am not Asian and love Badminton, did I get teased in school for playing( Yes!) Did I still play soccer, volleyball, baseball and football( Yes) . In my Twenties I enjoyed golf, great sport for friendly people! I worked hard to lower my handicap to a 6. But badminton was calling me last year! So I jumped on the horse after 17 years of not picking up a racket, It was hard and not easy! I enjoyed seeing an new environment at SGVBC, I will play there 1 time a week, maybe more! The club I am at is stale sometimes, I want to play matches! I may loose alot, but will gane valuable experience! Come on down and try this nice club out!

Never went by myself, but i'm sure you could find someone. You could always find someone on here. I'd be down, Private msg me or one of the other guy's that posted here. I'd suggest monday or tuesday night there are less people there. Also I'd go early like 5 or 6 pm, there's people there but it's not crowded.

I'm at SGVBC just about every day. There's a wide variety of players from beginner to advanced. The beginners usually play in the "back", four courts. Also training is in the back. Court # 1 and Center Court are usually for the more advanced players while the courts to the "right", four courts, are for the intermediate players. There's not written rule, that's just how it's migrated. :)
People there friendly. But if you don't know anyone, it could seem rather uninviting because most people know each other and are cliquey. The good news is, even if you are new there, if you are pleasant and ask to play, people will do so...it's all about presentation. :)

Actually, Monday is Pot Night (so is Thursday) so Center Court and Court # 1 are usually crowded with players and spectators. This pushes over to the other courts.

You can visit San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club and go to the back courts to watch all the coach teaching the students. The first court you see in the back will be Alex Liang. I would highly recommend you take a lesson with Alex. Alex is from China and was previously on the China National Team. You will learn alot from Alex.
For more info, you can visit http://www.e-badmintonusa.com/AlexLiang.html
It has all the info, directions and how to reserve court times for the lesson.

Why not get the shoes at SGVBC? you can try it on and get a feel for it.
Highly recommend it.
If you order it online and the size is not right, you'll waste time and money to exchange it.

Well, we had a minor clash, Adam (our opponent) hit a good smash near the middle and we both went for the return and clashed rackets. It happens. :p
Yes, I think the Woven 6 is more suited for you, it's a very good racket. :)
Regarding badminton stuff, you have lots of options...I'll IM you.

i think we might be at the same level... i'm sort of beginner/intermediate as well. i played in high school on the team and then a bit at Mt. SAC... but then i havne't played in over 5 years. i recently started playing again, i'm rusty... but i'm hoping the more i play then the faster i can improve.
i play sometimes on tuesdays and saturdays with friends, but i'm looking to play more days... so if you or anyone else around my skill level are looking to play... let me know. so if it's any other day except tue or saturday, and u wanna play, PM me and we can arrange a time and way to meet up there.
i read on someone else's post that the middle courts are for intermediate players. is it easy to just show up and get in a game? or do you pretty much have to come with friends?

The only time you can get in for free is when the Pro Shop is closed. That varies from 1am to 3 - 4am; or early morning, before 7am. :p

..the time mentioned is likely the most ideal...;)
..piggybacking on what DinkAlot wrote, sometimes even when the Pro Shop is still closed, there could be a fella who "patrols" the place and check if you're a member or not. If you're not, he'll charge you for it. It happened to me once, it was around 9-10am in the morning, i thought i could play w/out paying, but the fella still caught me "red-handed"(even when the Pro Shop was still closed)..hehe:p :o:( :D ;)

Unless it's a joke, or SGVBC does offer some sort of promotion, I don't really like the idea of "playing without pay". To me, that's kinda like "shop lifting". :(

Trying to get into SGVBC just for the sake of playing for free is not advisable. That's not what SGVBC is about.

I feel sorry for your situation. I came from the same path, as saving my lunch $$$ for my 1st racket, and walking in a snow storm to save $1.25 bus fare. However, I don't think that's an excuse to sneak in a privatly owned property and receive service. It's like, hey, I am poor, maybe let me rob a bank...
My suggestion is, either look for a part time job to earn a bit pocket cash, or start off from local school/community program, which usually offers much better price. Sports is important, and we need to respect it, right? ;)

Hi! I remember going to a badminton court at Telstar that looked like a former warehouse, where the entrance is on the side of the lot, towards the inner part of the property. This was way back in 2004; is this your home court? I spend my holidays there, and stay in West Covina.
Would like to have people to play with when I am there
