The period(Apr/29-May/7) of the competition is so called "Golden Week" ... the largest holiday week in Japan... All Japanese familly will travel out of Tokyo. Hotels in Tokyo Downtown area will give you bargen price, I hope, and traffic will be smoother. Just be careful not to go to TDL(Tokyo Disney Land), or you will have to wait for hours to get on a ride.:)

And if you go to see 1st stage at Sendai(North of Japan), Bullet trains(Shinkansen) between Sendai-Tokyo must be crazy packed all the week and you must reserve train tickets months in advance.

I try to look for information in English, but to no avail as well..
By the way, here is some information I got the that official website & I translate into English.

However, I'm not very sure the meaning of "One round of finals tournament, eight play (for 1 May)" as I translate it from its original verbal meaning.

The ticket is categorized into 5 types, i.e. SS seat, S seat, General Seat, High School Seat and Elementary Seat. However, there is also one ticket effective for a few days, which is cheaper.

SCHEDULE:
28 ~ 30 April (SENDAI CITY GYMNASIUM) - Seed-deciding League Matches
(TICKETS: SS-4000yen; S-2500yen;General-1500yen; High School-1000yen; Elementary-500yen; only SS seat until General seat mentioned here for the following)

1 May (SENDAI) - One round of T/U-Cup finals tournament
(SS-4000yen; S-2500yen;General-1500yen)
(FOR TICKET EFFECTIVE FR. THESE 4 DAYS IN SENDAI-SHI GYMNASIUM
: SS-9000yen, S-6000yen, G-4000yen)

2 May - Move to Tokyo/Preparation

3 May (TOKYO GYMNASIUM) - Quarterfinals
(SS-n/a; S-5000yen;General-2500yen)

4 May (TOKYO) - Uber Cup Semifinal
(SS-10000yen; S-5000yen;General-2500yen)

5 May (TOKYO) - Thomas Cup Semifinal
(SS-10000yen; S-5000yen;General-2500yen)

6 May (TOKYO) - Uber Cup Final
(SS-10000yen; S-5000yen;General-2500yen)

7 May (TOKYO) - Thomas Cup Final
(SS-10000yen; S-5000yen;General-2500yen)
(FOR TICKET EFFECTIVE FR. THESE 4 DAYS IN TOKYO GYMNASIUM
: SS-N/A, S-15000yen, G-7500yen)

Hi and thank you. I see the site is under construction but at least it looks to have English option when up and running. I see you are in Canberra - have played there a few years ago in the Aust Mast Games.
Cheers:)

No worries. Yes I probably met you, as I played in the Aussie Masters when it was in Canberra.

Sue,

I just googled the Japanese site (use the google search and translate):

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yonex-tuc.com%2F&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

to get to:

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.yonex-tuc.com/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dhttp://www.yonex-tuc.com/%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG

and found a link on it:

is anyone here going to attend thomas cup ?is that true that the first day of the game will be held in Sendai and then the rest will be held in Tokyo?how far are they from each other?just wonder why they have to put it in two places, the audiance and the players will have to travel, seems so inconvenient:confused: anyway, i am not going, so that's not my problem:D
