Today Singapore Newspaper (Strait Times) revealed that 2005 Singapore Open will be rated as 6 stars will be end of June to early July 2005. It was 5 stars rating until 2004 tournament.

The same news also indicated that entry ticket fees will be reduced (30%) in order to attract more fans.

Hope that 6 stars will attract more world class players  and lesser entry fees will entice the more fans.:D

well the report is quite confusing itself. reported on the straits times newspaper(our local newspaper) on saturday.british insurer aviva has announced a 3million sponsorship for the tournament until 2007.the move is likely to see the annual five star tournament upgraded to a six-star tournment boasting a minimum purse of us250,000 in 2007.ticek prices have also been cut as much as half from $15-$8.last year kids aged between 2-12 had to pay $10-12,this time they can watch for free.

singapore indoor stadium
june27-july3
prize purse:us$170,000(s$279,000)
tickets:adult $8-$10 adults
students $4-$8
under 12 free

It will be 5 star event this year, and they are planning to upgrade it to 6 star next year. And AVIVA has signed the sponsorship for the next 3 years from 2005 to 2007

What i found interesting was that the papers said it costs around 700,000 just to run the tournament. Never knew it was that expensive.

if you read this press release here:

http://www.badmintoncentral.com/badminton-central/content/view/99/2/

i obtained that press release directly from the Singapore Open 2005 people. and it clearly says 170,000 and 5* tournament.

So is it only the Purse that determines the rating of a tournament?
