just played in flick from 5:30pm straight to 12:00midnight. paid only 80 for the play-all-you-can games, and 150 for the all-you-can-eat, end-of-year party. just got home, while they're still partying, hehe.

will be back there on saturday (jan 3), from 6pm up. inviting others who are interested to join the saturday games...

previously meron, but not sure now.

yung queueing namin on mondays (and fridays) is at olivarez 10-courts. look for the group of rachel/joey/oca/raymond. umaabot kami ng 3 courts (courts 3,4 and 5). ready mo na php120 for the games plus a red aero shuttlecock (or equivalent). games start at 7pm. at least 4 games ka na niyan, and if you're still okay, puwede up to 10:30pm, hehe...

have fun.

will pm you my number.

88raymond
01-05-2009, 07:27 AM
hi mhitch0210. do you regularly play at flick? anong level ka doon?

i'm not aware of an imminent tournament, but will give you a heads up in this thread if ever there is one. sometimes there's a prize money, sometimes there isn't.

stressful masyado ang tournament, hehe... i'd rather join in the play-all-you-can days. mas masaya :)

mhitch0210
01-06-2009, 02:56 AM
huh?? do they require membership??
i though they not...i dont have a level there.. hahaha.,,, thats why i'm asking...haha....buts if there a tuornament, juz tell me,,,i want to join,... hahahah!!!and one thing more,,do you want to play with me??
what time is their play all you can??to save more money...hahahha....

88raymond
01-06-2009, 03:49 AM
you've got a lot of haha's there... i think you've flipped. ;)

yes, it's near the lycee regis d marie school.

membership? there's none. but i guess they can make an exception in your case, hehe....

do you have a level anywhere then? baka katulad mo akong baguhan :) i wouldn't have any compunction playing with anyone above or below my level.

call the flick court number i gave and ask for more details. see for yourself if you'll enjoy the saturday, whole-day play-all-you-can schedule. i'll be there from 4pm up :D look for one of the two left-and right-handed persons who regularly play there, that would be me.

hi venkatesh! Do u also play every m0nday on queing?

Not aware of Monday queuing in flick. Sorry. I don't play on Mondays. But there's queuing headed by 88raymond et al. in Olivarez on that day. However, I was told that the players there prefer intermediate to advanced player.

88raymond
01-07-2009, 07:24 AM
yes! i can play tomorrow (no meeting). see you, venkatesh.

mrpao, maybe you can join tomorrow's queueing games?

mhitch0210, i wouldn't know what i'll wear on saturday :), i gather the description on how weird i play would be enough to identify me ;). look around for the group of players who are at least twice (to thrice) your age, i am in that group :D

chelle_08, there's currently no monday queueing in flick. saturday ka na rin maglaro, if you can't join tomorrow. there you'll be able to meet players you can feel comfortable to play with, and probably set up playdates with them.

chelle_08, there are other queueing skeds.

88raymond organizes a queueing in Olivarez School every Mon and Fri, 7 pm onwards, in the 10-court building (Tara 10).

There's also queueing in the same location every Tues and Thurs, 7 pm onwards, headed by Sir Ron/Sheila.

And if I'm not mistaken, there's also a morning group in Flick every Tues and Thurs, 7:30 am to 2:00 pm, headed by Yet.

The Thursday group in Flick is open for beginners. It's headed by Dennis.

The same with the Tues and Thurs group in Olivarez. It's headed by Ron , Sheila, and Mau. They're very friendly.

I'm just not sure with the Olivarez Monday and Friday group. I've only played with them once.

MrPao, nice game. It was fun playing with you. I hope you play again on Sat.

I'll be at Flick on Sat at around 7 or 8 pm onward.

88raymond, I'll send you the link of the doubles rotation I'm talking about. I'll PM you as soon as I find it. Nice game. :)

In Tara 10, most of the players are guys and matured. Sheila is the only girl there.

In Tara 5, which is headed by Bev, the level of game of the players are varied.

mhitch0210

oh. he's got a different style of teaching. not as active on court and as involved on tournaments as the young romeo, but you'll get some pretty good tips from him. coach manny is a good player for his age.

mhitch0210

coach manny will do good. he's got a good basic foundation. remember that the basics are the most important thing to learn in badminton. without it, you'll never be able to progress to doing advanced shots.

That's how it goes mhitch. Next you'll be doing drills, picking up shuttles and transferring it to the other side. Sooner or later, you'll just realize that you're already competing in tournaments. Good job. I hope we get to play some time. :)

Hi everyone!

I played few times at flick around last quarter of 2007. I even underwent training with coach manny for two sessions only (had to cut it short because of job schedule). I played badminton last feb 2008 and I'm aching to play again. I can classify my skill level somewhere in between novice and intermediate and I hope I can improve. Are you guys still playing at flick? Am hoping to play again and join a group.

Yes. The sched there has been changed (at least for our group). We play there during Mon and Wed, 7 pm. mrpao and 88raymond are already regular members. Look for Romeo, the que master. :)

Is the play-all-you-can still available on Saturdays and Sundays? Is it ok to join your queing knowing that I may not be good enough for most of the players? Can I readily find players near my level of play? (Nakakahiya din kasi minsan kapag ako yung pinakamahina.)

Anyway, I hope one of these weekends I can go back to flick. It's just along the way from my office.

Yes. The "play all you can" during Sat and Sun is still available. However, you should be in a group because there's no que master during these days. There are beginners in the Mon and Wed queueing. In fact, they're already regulars and have recently joined a tournament to represent our club. Eventually, they'll get better as long as they continue playing with the group.

Gear up and join us. :)

I just want to confirm if there's still any queing on Friday at Olivarez. Can I know the details? I'm willing to play there instead because it's the last day of work every week and I can afford to stay late at night.

I played there last Friday with my new officemates from SPi at around 6PM to 7PM. If anybody was there at that time, we were the group playing with 3 Americans. All of my officemates are casual/recreational players and apparently, I'm the only one who knows the rules and can hit the shuttle decently. Also, they only play for less than 2 hours and I felt like I'm just getting started. :(

You must have mistaken Flick badminton court from Olivarez.

I think there's no queuing in Flick during Fridays. But you can ask 88raymond to include you on their Friday group at Olivarez. They play in the 10-court building.

No, I really mean Olivarez. Like I said, I played there last Friday with our American trainers at our company. I read before here that there's a queing in Olivarez every Friday and I want to join that since I can only play on weekends.

When you say 10-court badminton building, are you referring to another building in Olivarez? Is there more than 1 badminton building in Olivarez? Please clarify. Thanks. Looking forward to play there, even starting tomorrow.

There are two badminton buildings in Olivarez. The 10-court building (also known as "tara 10") is bigger. Tara 5 is adjacent to the tennis courts.

There is no "official queuing" in Olivarez during Friday. However, you can join Raymond's group and they'll officiate your games. Raymond's the tall guy who's ambidextrous, but he's mostly left-handed. Just look for him and he'll take care of you. I'll text him so that he'll know you'll come. :)

Are these trainers the petite female foreigners I see in the canteen?

I think there is. Just in case, just look for the tall ambidextrous guy. Enjoy :)

I just played at Flick at yesterday's queuing. First time to play in a queing actually. I got to play 5 games, went home a bit tired and got sore thighs the morning after. :D
In short, I enjoy it. Thanks venkatesh. :) Will play there again.

Yes, I'm used to the soreness. Too bad I can't play tonight, on next Monday perhaps. I'll just drop by at Flick to see you guys in action.

Feel free to join, kakashi and chelle. They (or We :D) start playing between 6-7PM. Queing starts at 6PM, correct me if I'm wrong, venkatesh. Queing fee is P120.

Nice to hear that you enjoy your first queuing. :)

Our overtime for last Thursday was canceled a day before. I could have stayed late and played longer only if I played last Wednesday. Too bad my baby (his real name is Jaymz:cool:, btw) was sick and I had to go home earlier.

Anyway, I'll play either Mon or Wed queuing next week. See you there. :)

Flick used to be near Kabihasnan... 3 years ago.;) It is now located along Sucat Road, between Lopez and Valley 2, in front of Regis Marie College. I'm not sure if they conduct summer clinic there but AFAIK, there are readily available trainers there.

I had 2 sessions with coach manny way back 2007 (cut short because of work). He charged me per session, not per hour. The length of the session depends on your stamina and/or learning capacity.

Sigh! I have to wait for payday to be able to play at Flick again.:( I haven't played again since last week's Monday.

I'll see you guys next week. :)

I was charged P150 per session, but that was almost 2 years ago. Rates can go up. Just call the number raymond posted or better yet, just visit Flick.

I learned that in other places, que masters have an idea of the skill level, though may not be exact, of those participating in the queuing. Upon registering, a newcomer will have to tell the que master what is the player's skill level, whether class ABCDE or Beginner/Intermediate/Advance etc. I think this is for matching up purposes.

On my first time at Flick, I did not notice anything like this. Do they have this in Flick? Do they expect any newcomer to be anywhere in the beginner-intermediate range or the que master simply match up all players randomly, without consideration to the skill level of players?

I can't speak for the que master. But if you're going to look at the popsicle sticks where our names are written, on the right side, our levels are displayed (at least for my stick). I'm not sure how the que master mixes and matches the players, but I think he definitely considers the level of play. Since you're a first timer in the group, maybe he'd likely test your skill level first by setting you up with beginners to intermediate players. Sometimes, the que master partners beginners with advanced players. And sometimes, he sets up intermediate pairs with advanced opponents. (I think this is his way of helping players to develop their skills.)

You can actually request for a hard game. I, on the other hand, just go with the flow. At least that helps me practice adjusting to different kinds of players. I have yet to complain to the que master. The match I usually get is a combination of light and hard ones.

The intensity of mixed doubles is totally different from men's doubles. I apply more placement in mixed. I have to figure out a way for my lady partner to get involved, to be able to kill the rally. I also have to work on my girl partner's skill assets ... e.g., if she's good at the net, I have to force the play for her to go front; if she's good at the midcourt, I need to cover everything she couldn't. In men's, I leave everything I couldn't reach.

Too bad we'll not be able to play tomorrow. It's not the same with one less badminton addict on court.

I agree with you regarding the matching up for a beginner/newcomer. That's what I noticed in the five games I played the last time. I can say that there were games that were close, like pairs were evenly matched up. There was a game that I was not playing well, committed lots of unforced errors and our opponent were very good (one of which is sir eric:cool:) Our pair was clobbered :D:D but I'm not complaining at all as I'm aware that's one way for me to improve. I have nothing against playing with/against someone who's a lot better than me.

Does the queue master prioritize MD or WD over XD?

Not really. I guess it depends on the availability of the players. Like if there are only 2 guys available for a game, then the que master must pull out ladies to pair for each of the guys. :)
