View Full Version : First Day matches.
in theory, the 2005 SC should be starting today's first round of matches in an hour's time. the 9.30am start features Group 2, 4 and 5 matches.
Group 1 matches start around 2pm. that will be more interesting with:
Denmark vs. England
Korea vs. Thailand
and group 2:
Malaysia vs. Chinese Taipei
matches have started. live scores here:

hcyong 05-09-2005, 09:23 PM Singapore v Germany should be the most interesting at this 9 am slot.
And Singapore is already in danger. The first tie, XD, is tied at 1-1 and the Germans (Kindervater/Piotrowski) are leading (Saputra/Jiang) 9-0 in the rubber game.
If you consider that Xu Huaiwen's point to be sure, then Germany just need one more point. And that point could come from the MD which is Singapore's greatest weakness. Or maybe Joppien (v Susilo) or Grether/Schenk (v Jiang/Liu Fan).
So, Singapore's position is very precarious. Whatever happened to Li Yujia?
hcyong 05-09-2005, 09:30 PM The Germans won the XD, so 1-0.
I expect Ronald and Xu to win (which are the next matches), so the first crucial match will be the MD.
hcyong 05-09-2005, 09:34 PM Japan lead Ukraine 1-0
Yamada bt Druzchenko 14-17, 15-5, 15-2
The Germans won the XD, so 1-0.
I expect Ronald and Xu to win (which are the next matches), so the first crucial match will be the MD.
I'm afraid you're right. With the loss in XD, which I thought we should win, we're in great danger of losing to Germany, perhaps 2-3. :crying: :crying:
hcyong 05-09-2005, 10:03 PM Ronald won the first set 15-13 and now they're in the second set. Looks like it's not that easy after all. If Singapore beats Germany, it has to be down to sheer grit and determination.
RaymondLin 05-09-2005, 10:05 PM Ronald won the first set 15-13 and now they're in the second set. Looks like it's not that easy after all. If Singapore beats Germany, it has to be down to sheer grit and determination.
5:4 now Ronald serving

it will be close. Ronald should be able to take on Joppien. however, Xu Huaiwen is slightly stronger than Li Li. the outcome will be dependent on both MD and WD...
hcyong 05-09-2005, 10:32 PM it will be close. Ronald should be able to take on Joppien. however, Xu Huaiwen is slightly stronger than Li Li. the outcome will be dependent on both MD and WD...
Trouble for Singapore is that, in both the MD and WD, the Germans start off as slight favourites.
hcyong 05-09-2005, 10:37 PM In a 2B tie, Japan already has an unassailable lead over Ukraine 3-0.
In another 2B tie, Singapore and Germany are tied 1-1 with the WS currently being played.
hcyong 05-09-2005, 10:59 PM Germany leads Singapore 2-1 after Xu defeated Li.
Now comes the all-important MD match.

Cheung 05-10-2005, 12:25 AM Typical..I get onto the internet to get some other information...and I'm being distracted by BC/BF...and the Sudirman Cup results. I am supposed to be working... :crying:
Is that good or bad :D ?

definitely bad Cheung. it is only day one. it only gets better (or worse, depending how you look at it. ;) )
back to the SC... afternoon matches haven't started yet.
i just received a mesg from JR. JR isn't playing till tomorrow. he seems to have a little bit of free time... ;)
Badmincraze 05-10-2005, 12:36 AM Did S'pore's MD won ?!?!
hcyong 05-10-2005, 12:54 AM Singapore went past Germany 3-2. If you look at the result as a whole, you can say that Singapore lost the XD but won it back with the MD. The Singapore WD pair look too strong for the German pair.
So, there are 3 almost equally strong teams in Group 2B, and Singapore drew first blood.
hcyong 05-10-2005, 12:57 AM Now for the Malaysia v Taiwan match. I predict a 4-1 or 3-2 win for Malaysia.
hcyong 05-10-2005, 01:01 AM First tie in Korea v Thailand match is:
Lee Jae Jin/Ra Kyung Min v Sudket/Saralee
followed by
Shon v Boonsak
Seo v Salakjit
Kim/Ha (!!!) v Sudket/Patapol
Lee/Lee v Saralee/Sujitra
(looks like Kim and Ra are for real, but where's Sathinee)
On paper, Thailand can win this one.
hcyong 05-10-2005, 01:03 AM IN the other Group 1B tie, Denmark v England, I think England can possibly win 2 points but no more than that.
Typical..I get onto the internet to get some other information...and I'm being distracted by BC/BF...and the Sudirman Cup results. I am supposed to be working... :crying:
Is that good or bad :D ?
Don't listen to Kwun.
I say it is good. It's just like opium. Since you're an addict and having satisfied yourself with that feed, you should be at your best thereafter.
But of course, after a while, you'll feel sleepy and lethargic again and you've no other option but to turn back to your old habit again! Blame it on Kwun! :D
Btw, I just got news that my second son passsed his Industrial Design degree course at UNSW with a Honours II, Division I.
Is this good or bad? Let's hope he can now start playing badminton again, which he completely foresaken during his undergraduate days. Whatever the case, I'm really happy for him for the sacrifice and his achievement. :)
Wow! According to the website, Singapore has beaten Germany 3-2. I hope I have not read wrongly!
Could hcyong please confirm? ;)

Looks like it's true. Germany don't have a reliable MD pair also.
hcyong 05-10-2005, 01:31 AM Wong Choong Hann/Wong Pei Tty just secured the first point for Malaysia. Not a bad combination.
weekey 05-10-2005, 01:31 AM denmark V england. very good mixed match. robertson/emms just won the first game 15:13

wong choong hann is playing mix.... ...well...malaysia doesn'r hv a strong mix pair..that is good to hear...maybe we might see chen hong playing with his girlfriend gaoling mix:o
i dont' believe nobody mentioned that LeeJJ/RA KYUNG MIN just won their XD tie against Sudket/Saralee.
Ra played her first international match in the past 9 months.
15/11 - 15/10
not bad. not bad.
Looks like it's true. Germany don't have a reliable MD pair also.
Yes, I don't even know who's representing Spore in MD and whether Kendrick Lee is involved since Ronald played MS. I had great confidence that our WD would win and I think they won 2-0 in the last match, whereas the MD scrapped through 2-1.
Certainly a lucky thin margin of victory! But I'm really glad that our team fought back from 1-2 down. :)
w3wmfhe 05-10-2005, 01:56 AM england won the first mix double..2set..15-9
hcyong 05-10-2005, 01:58 AM Lee CW lost the first set, but I'm guessing he will win the match.
Also, England (14-9) in the second set, should get the first point against Denmark.

Badmincraze: How come you knew Kendrick was playing MD? I can't find the details from the website. Who was Kendrick's partner?

He paired wif H Wijaya... its on the livescore website http://2005sc.163.com/special/2/0023jt/2005scliveen.html
They named him Lee Yen Hui instead of Kenderick Lee ;)
hcyong 05-10-2005, 02:27 AM Lee CW just got the second point for Malaysia, so 2-0 now. Where 2 years ago, Malaysia can just manage to scrap a 3-2 win against Chinese Taipei, we may be able to win 5-0 this year.

Yes, if Taiwan get 1 point, it will be from WD. Malaysian WD is about equal to the Taiwanese, although when it comes to that match, Malaysia may have already won and there is no motivation to try as hard, especially if Wong PT has already played one match already.
w3wmfhe 05-10-2005, 02:43 AM so fast ..demark lady won the first set in 12min..11-4
hcyong 05-10-2005, 02:51 AM Malaysia 3-0 up. Wong MC had easy victory since Taiwanese two top WS players are not in the tournament.
so fast ..demark lady won the first set in 12min..11-4
From website, England won Match 1, presumably the XD with Nathan & Emms? But, I'm sure Denmark will soon rebound and may leave England with at most, one more win! :D
w3wmfhe 05-10-2005, 03:03 AM second set went 2 england lady 12-10

there ya go. for those who wants it..
hcyong 05-10-2005, 03:19 AM Goodness me. Boonsak beat Shon 17-16 in the rubber game. And it looks like Salakjit is leading the first game against Seo.
Goodness me. Boonsak beat Shon 17-16 in the rubber game. And it looks like Salakjit is leading the first game against Seo.
A case of elder brother inspiring younger sister to another sensational win? Team spirit may give Thailand an upset win over S. Korea, the current champs? Now this will be very interesting! :D

it looks like Seo won the WS point for Korea. a close game! 13-10 / 11-8
what a pity that Korea is missing Jun Jae Youn. the chance of stealing an unexpected WS point from China is totally gone without her.
ah, the old friends are back together again, the Olympics Gold Medal pair of Kim/Ha should have little problem against Sudket/Patapol.
hcyong 05-10-2005, 04:20 AM Malaysia bt Chinese Taipei 4-1, the sole Taiwanese point coming from the WD.
Netherlands bt Russia 4-1, Russia winning a point in the MD, Netherland's weakest point.
Meanwhile, Kim/Ha are thrashing Sudket/Patapol (are Kim/Ha back?) and they should make it 3-1 for Korea.
Denmark and England are still locked in battle. England gave a better fight than expected, but I think Eriksen/Larsen will win their tie (already a set up) to make it 3-1.

Well, it's not that smooth. But you go to performance settings in WMP and go set your dsl to specific speed (the one you're using) and the next thing you do is set the buffer manually to 8 seconds or something. Or even 5 will do.
Wizbit 05-10-2005, 05:20 AM I tried that already :crying:. Try look for web stream recorder. It does what it says ;)Well, it's not that smooth. I'd like that as well....trouble is we dont have any MS players who can win a game in group 1!! :(
China vs Sweden 1-0 after MX.
Now Lin Dan is playing Rasmus Wengberg. If Wengberg gathers 5 points it will be a major accomplishment.
 :crying:
seven 05-10-2005, 06:51 AM China should logically thrash Sweden 5-0. Lin Dan is starting his match against Rasmus Wengberg now...
In Group 3, India is leading 2-0 against Wales and U.S.A. are 1-0 and one game up against Scotland...
seven 05-10-2005, 06:53 AM I'd like that as well....trouble is we dont have any MS players who can win a game in group 1!! :(

jkusmanto 05-10-2005, 06:56 AM There is "Hari S" in Indonesia's player list for WS.
Indo send 2 WS : Adrianti Firdasari and Fransisca 'Nana' Ratnasari.
There is no Hari S.
Who is she ?
seven 05-10-2005, 06:56 AM Without Richard Vaughan and Kelly Morgan, Wales are rather weak and it seems they might get thrashed 5-0 by India...

Jonno 05-10-2005, 07:01 AM Ghaffar did beat - who was it already? - in all England last year... you never now miracles can happen! ;)
He did beat Bao Chunlai, I forgot about that! Perhaps I'm a bit too harsh then, but England didnt get a single MS qualifier for the Athens Olympics so we're still pretty weak :p

Yes, Bao Chunlai that was... :)
Well... anyway even without expecting too much Ghaffar should be able to beat Rasmus Wengberg if ever England plays Sweden in ranking matches, so YES England can win a MS match in group 1! ;)

Weird scheduling in that game...why are the LS and LD only separated by one game when both USA and Scottish players are involved in both? I'd have thought it would be better to put the LS 1st or 2nd
seven 05-10-2005, 07:27 AM or ardrianti firda-s-hari ??????:p:D, lol, sorry
True, hehe :D
Anyway, whoever this is will have a tough job against Wang Chen!!

Taufik should be the one to at least get that point form the MS!
m_poppema 05-10-2005, 07:42 AM I see Taufik is leading 13-0 now in the 3th..:)
jkusmanto 05-10-2005, 07:50 AM Their name : Adrianti Firdasari and Fransisca Ratnasari.
Both of them ended with ..ASARI, but without 'H' between 'S' and 'A'.
I am not sure who will play. Wait and see.
By the way, Taufik wins the 3rd set by 15-9.

hcpoirot 05-10-2005, 11:14 AM Day First Sudirman Cup didn't had any suprises from group 1 and 2.
The final result :
Denmark - England : 3 - 2. Denmark had to thanks Tine R. Tommorow they still had to met Thailand who had better MS than England.
Korea - Thailand : 4 - 1.
China - Sweden : 5 - 0
Indonesia - Hong Kong : 4 - 1 .
Group 2:
Malaysia - Taipei : 4 - 1. Malay lost 1 point from WD.
Netherland - Russia : 4 -1. Mia play WS and XD. And she won 2 point!
Singapore - Germany : 3 - 2
Japan - Ukraine : 5 - 0
hcpoirot 05-10-2005, 11:19 AM Tommorow, the biggest match had to be Denmark VS Thailand. Thai surely got one point from WD and Denmark got 1point from MD. XD and WD is 50 : 50. And MS is 55 : 45 for Denmark.
England after got 2 point from Denmark surely will try their best when they meet Korea. England could probably got 2 points from XD and WS.
other 05-10-2005, 02:22 PM England after got 2 point from Denmark surely will try their best when they meet Korea. England could probably got 2 points from XD and WS.
i wonder if korea will now field KDM with RKM instead of Lee JJ to deal with the english WR1 XD pair?
New_Guy04 05-10-2005, 05:25 PM probably... because kim/ra might be the only pair currently in the world that can beat emms/robertson...
Wizbit 05-10-2005, 08:28 PM I think Lee JJ and Ra can do it too. The difference lies between Ra and Emms. Lee JJ can really pound the shuttle..probably... because kim/ra might be the only pair currently in the world that can beat emms/robertson...
Sealman 05-10-2005, 09:11 PM He paired wif H Wijaya... its on the livescore website

Well, to compensate, I'll watch the Msia v Russia match tonight although it wouldn't be as exciting as a complete whitewash by Msia is to be expected.
Actually, the results are out 5-0 in favour of Msia. :crying:
Yes, Bao Chunlai that was... :)
Well... anyway even without expecting too much Ghaffar should be able to beat Rasmus Wengberg if ever England plays Sweden in ranking matches, so YES England can win a MS match in group 1! ;)
I wouldn't be so sure. Ghaffar has never beaten Wengberg, and in fact, Wengberg crushed Ghaffar as recently as January this year.

Never said this was sure and I didn't want to offence anyone, but England is capable of winning the MS against Sweden without this being a "miracle".
All the other teams in Group 1 have much stronger MS.

Indeed, but I would say that in a match England vs Sweden, MS is the match where Sweden has the biggest chance. With the current line-ups, I would guess for a 4-1 win for England. :)
