Group 2A
Netherlands v Taiwan is interesting. If Taiwan loses, then tomorrow's Malaysia v Netherlands will be the group final. If Taiwan wins, then it will be even more interesting. And I do think Taiwan is able to beat Netherlands by winning all the doubles. The key will be MD.
Malaysia v Russia should not be too hard for Malaysia. At most, Malaysia will lose in the WS (currently playing, score already 2-0 for Malaysia).

ella karachkova and wong mew choo 1st game was simply amazing.........some 'chinese' deceptive drop style by ella and wong's ability to retrieve every shots made this 1st game a world class standard....
wong also made a 'shot of tournament'......defensive backhand retrieving (something like mia audina style);) to outclass her opponent....
however..due to fitness problem....ella cant match wong in the 2nd game....
but all credit go for these 2 ladies;) ;)

Before the tournament, there was a discussion about who would win this match. From your description, it looks like both players are almost equal in terms of skill and ability.
However, in terms of stamina, Wong MC wins hands down. It was reported before that Wong MC has the best stamina among Malaysian players (including the male players).

The Netherlands v Taiwan match is currently tied 2-2. Both the Dutch points come from the singles. The Taiwanese won the XD and MD.
So, we have a WD decider. Cheng/Chien v Mia/Meulendijk. The Taiwanese are the heavy favourites for a 3-2 victory.
If that is the case, Malaysia has a very high chance of topping Group 2A. Malaysia can lose 3-2 tomorrow and still top the table.

Next up:
Korea v England (predictions)
Lee HI v Kidd (Korea 1-0)
Lee YH v Cann (Korea 2-0; how come not Hallam?)
Ha TK/Yim BE v Clark/Blair (Korea 3-0)
Lee KW/Lee HJ v Tripp/Wright (Korea 4-0)
Lee JJ/Ra KM v Robertson/Emms (this will be very interesting, Korea 4-1)
Few chances for England; Korea may even win 5-0
Denmark v Thailand
Laybourn/Juhl v Sudket/Saralee (0-1)
Jonassen v Boonsak (1-1)
Rasmussen v Salakjit (2-1)
Eriksen/Lundgaard v Sudket/Patapol (3-1)
Harder/Schjoldager v Saralee/Sathinee (3-2)
Boonsak can steal a point, but Laybourn/Juhl may also steal a point; Thailand could take it 3-2, or Denmark 3-2 or 4-1.
Singapore v Ukraine (no problems for Singapore)
Japan v Germany
Sato v Joppien (1-0)
Hirose v Xu HW (2-0)
Masuda/Ohtsuka v Hopp/Kindervater (3-0)
Ogura/Shiota v Grether/Schenk (4-0)
Masuda/Matsuda v Hopp/Piotrowski (4-1)
Japan with clear advantage in MD and WD, but it is actually possible for Germany to take the other three (but it means both Joppien and Xu must overcome Sato and Hirose)

Lee Yun Hwa won 3rd game 11/7
Lee has better court coverage and superior in racket skills. however, she tend to rally a lot and lacking in offensive. looks more like a early day Gong Zhichao. however, her problem is the accuracy. and often lacking in patience. from pure skill level point of view, the match should not be so close.
oh my god. that's Ye Zhaoying as the commentator.
next match. Ha/Yim (not Kim) vs. Blair/Clark. on paper, it won't be a slaughter but the Koreans should have a pretty easy time against the English.

So, it's down to the Netherlands v Malaysia match tomorrow to decide the group winner. Netherlands have the edge in WS and WD, while for the rest, Malaysia have the edge.
hycong,
Not a suprise at all Netherlands WD won 1 points from Mia A/ Judith M. When Mia pair with Lotte, they reached top 8 in the world. They only lost to Chinese and Korean pairs. Sometimes they lost to Rikke O/ Ann Lou J.
So when Mia pair with Judith now, not a big suprise if they won againts Tai Pei. If Mia/Judith play tommorow against Malaysia WD, I bet they will win another point for the Dutch team.

I can't believe that England played their second team today against Korea. If they played all out like yesterday against Denmark they probably can won 1, 2 or even 3 points.
England already give up and save their best players for tommorow games against Thailand. What a let down attitude. They don't believe in themselves that they can compete with Korea (at least the coach) and they just happy not being kick out from group 1 result. How can England be a big badminton country if they had this kind of attitude.
Look at Thailand. When they play against Denmark, they played their best players although they know their chances are not very big against the Danish. But they play all out no matter they lost to Denmark finally. And with the same players they will face England tomorrow. Bravo for the Thais.

China VS Hong Kong : 5-0
Bao Chun Lai had to play 3 sets against Agus Hariyanto. Hmmm...
Indonesia : Sweden : 4-1
OMG! Again Indonesia lost one point from WS. I can understand the WS lost to Wang Chn. But lost to Sweden WS, I am speechless. Even Hendrawan can't coach the better WS. From all the eight group 1, Indonesia probably had the weakest WS.
In WD, Indonesia won with 15-13, 15-12. And they won against Sweden players who one already play XD and one already play WS. Dissapointing!
And tommorow Indonesia will meet China. No matter what WS and WD they chose, they never can won against the Chinese ladies.
That mean, INdonesia WS will lost 3 times in a row, and the WD only won against Hong Kong and Sweden with tight scores. So when they played in SF, even if Indonesia meet Denmark, I really believe we already lost 2 points from WS and WD.
Let see, Tine R already won 2 times against England and Thai. She already had lot of confidence. Indonesia WS? None of them ever won a point. Whoever chosed to play WS, she will had a ton of stressful pressure.
WD just the same.
So we can only hope from MS, MD and XD to got 3 points when Indonesia only had 50:50 chance against Denmark in this point.
With Korea, we had a better chance 1 point from MS.

With Mia and Yao Jie around (and to a lesser extend, Dicky), it will not be easy for a team like Malaysia to beat them. But at least, the Malaysia today has a chance, and will even be slight favourites (I think). Malaysia of two years ago has no chance.

Not sure that it was the second team really. MS and WD are expected losses, no matter who England fielded it would have been a surprise to win those.
For WS, Liz Cann has beaten Tracey Hallam about the last 3 times they've played, including the national final in February. Also Hallam lost yesterday to a player Cann has beaten before. MD was maybe a choice to rest Nathan Robertson because he's played lots of games already, and Robertson and Emms are obviously the best mixed pair.
Three of the games were close, and went to three sets, so maybe it could have been a different result on another day!

2nd team ?? proberly not . ghaffs got a wake up call yesterday and so kidd may as well been used as he might tomorrow. Cann as has been said can beat hallam and has beaten some good players often suprisingly in team tournaments. Blair is one of the top doubles players and clark is the no.3. Robertson and Emms are the number 1 and playing, Nathans rested slightly becuase of recent injuries he had could havv written him out the tournament altogether. (KDM being rested isnt he?)

As already pointed out by our british friends, England didn't really played any "second team". Sure Gaffar might be a threat to anyone when *in form*. However it looks like the coach wasn't satisfied with what he saw the previous day and gave Kidd a try to stir the pot. Jonno has thoroughly analysed the selection for WS to show that it was more a matter of rolling the dice to chose and for the XD they played their best card, one can argue they sacrified the MD but IMO that was the correct coaching. That way they would have a fair chance to win the XD, instead of two minor chances to scrap a point in MD or XD.
Personally I am really happy that Ra shows that it takes a little bit more to really *BE* the world no1. On paper Robertson/Emms might be at the top of the ranking at the moment, but in reality, on the court, they will never be even close to what KDM/Ra was capable to do.

Talking about "second team", anyone know why Sweden were playing a second team against Indo? Not that it would matter which team they played in that match, the result was as good as they could realisticly hope for.
Do they concentrate on trying to upset England or do they have any injuries?
Why did Heimirsson play the MS, and why did Hansson play the MD. IMO neither of them would be even third or forth choice as substitutions.

No way england can score that many points, because Korea already secured the MS WD and MD. However, you can't just say England put their second team, because Korea also played THEIR second team against England also.... really, if KDM/HA and KDM/RA was playing instead of Yim/HA and Lee/ra that day, i doubt England would have even had a chance to go to the rubber games... WS, yes, England put their second team (CANN), but Korea put Lee Yun Hwa, who is not even the SECOND best player, but third (Jun and Seo, although Jun is injured).
it is normal for team to not field their best players in group matches.
that way, coaches can sense the form of their players by fielding them. they can use that information to adjust their lineup when semi-final time comes. China seems to have done that with their group matches, fielding both Lin Dan and Bao, Zhang/Gao and Chen/Zhao, Yang/Zhang and Huang/Gao. furthermore, it minimize court time and maximize fitness.

When Ivana Lie as WS Coach, Silvi Amtarini, Maria Kristin, Firdasari & Fransisca have good progress, but since Hendrawan worse , worse and worse.

China seems to have done that with their group matches, fielding both Lin Dan and Bao, Zhang/Gao and Chen/Zhao, Yang/Zhang and Huang/Gao. furthermore, it minimize court time and maximize fitness.
They also field all the players so they all get world ranking points from the Sudirman Cup, so that all the top players can improve their world ranking before the world champs... (look at Malaysia fielding all three Lee CW, Hafiz and Wong CH in MS)
