View Full Version : WC Qualifiers
seven 05-19-2005, 09:07 AM The list has been published by IBF : http://www.worldbadminton.net/Portal/desktopdefault.aspx?tabid=10&ItemID=1786
However quite a few players aren't elligible to represent their country, and some players are known as being injured so this list will probably change...
seven 05-19-2005, 09:17 AM Quite a few top players didn't qualify :
* in MS : Xia Xuanze(!), Anders Boesen, Roslin Hashim, Simon Santoso, Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama ...
* in WS : Gong Ruina !!!
* in MD : Limpele/Hian (!), Chew/Choong, BFer Laybourn/Steffensen, Ha Tae Kwon...
* in WD : Du/Yu ...
* in XD : Lamp/Harder ...
seven 05-19-2005, 09:19 AM Of course, IBF is allowed one wild-card per disciplin so some of these player may be awarded a wild-card...
In 2003, Peter Gade was the only one to get an IBF wild-card, but he eventually lost in the first round to Sony Dwi Kuncoro...
kevin&sandy 05-19-2005, 09:24 PM i wonder anyone here having problem accessing the site www.worldbadminton.net (http://www.worldbadminton.net) as most of the time it was just blank...
hcyong 05-19-2005, 09:39 PM Du/Yu cannot possibly get a wild card because there are already 4 Chinese pairs qualified for the WD.
If I were IBF, my wildcard would go to:
MS: Xia Xuanze (to defend his crown)
MD: if Kim/Ha wants a go, then if Choong/Lee wants a go, then either Flandi/Eng, Chew/Choong, or Laybourn/Steffensen, but giving it to one will be seen as unfair to the other two (because all 3 countries have 3 qualifiers each)
WS: giving it to Gong Ruina would be unfair as China already has 3 entries and furthermore, he recent form does not warrant it; I will give it to Lee Yun Hwa instead
WD: Juhl/Kristiansen because they are the highest ranked among those eligible
XD: Lamp/Harder for similar reasons
Not giving a wildcard is also a major consideration, so that the 63rd qualifier can have a go.
aiyuuw 05-19-2005, 09:50 PM limpele/hian are NOT qualified?:eek: how come? they are ranked 10th in the world!

They are only 16th and fourth indo pair on last ranking.
(behind Luluk/Alven, Candra/Sigit and Kidho/Setiawan)
blckknght 05-21-2005, 06:52 AM Since i'm going to be in Anaheim, my only hope is that they give a wild card to Kim and Ra...
Morten 05-21-2005, 08:47 AM in my opinion Eng/Flandy is one of the best pairs in the world and in top form a candidate to the WC title. The got Bronze at the olympics and have for many years troubled the top pair Kim/Ha. But perhaps the indonesian federation considered that the young indo pair was the future stars and wanted them to gain some experience and I think thats a fair decision... MD will be the category that will be unpredictable this year. with Cai/Fu to be slight favourites.

The Indons have not decided who they will send yet. They can still send Flandi/Eng instead of Markis/Kidho.

Indonesian shuttlers look for world titles
Moch. N. Kurniawan, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta
Indonesian shuttlers, after failing once again to win the Sudirman Cup, will be looking for redemption at the World Championships in August in Anaheim, United States.
"Our spirits are high. We are ready to win the world championship," doubles specialist Candra Wijaya said on the sidelines of a practice session at the national badminton training center in Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Saturday.
With partner Sigit Budiarto, Candra was not sorely tested during the best-of-five matches at last week's Sudirman Cup in Beijing. They were rested in the team's 5-0 drubbing at the hand of China in group match play, with the team preferring to hold them back for the decisive match against Denmark.
Indonesia trounced the European giant 3-0 to advance to the final. With the men's doubles scheduled as the fourth tie, Candra and Sigit did not have to swing a racket in the victory over Denmark.
In the final, Indonesia lost to China 3-0, leaving Candra and Sigit no chance to lead a comeback.
Looking ahead, Candra said he and Sigit were optimistic about their chances in Anaheim, which will host the World Championships from Aug. 15 to Aug. 21.
Candra and Sigit won the Swiss Open in April this year, which helped push them up to fifth in the IBF world rankings.
Another doubles specialist, Luluk Hadiyanto, is also feeling confident.
"Hopefully, we will become world champions," Luluk, who pairs with Alvent Yulianto, said.
World number eight Taufik Hidayat also sent a clear message about his desire to pick up more silverware to go with his Olympic gold medal.
Taufik, only the second singles player to win an Olympic gold for Indonesia, after Alan Budikusuma turned the trick in Barcelona 1992, would likely have been the favorite in last month's All England but he was sidelined with a knee injury.
Indonesia's squad for the Anaheim tournament will include Taufik and world number 19 Sony Dwi Kuncoro (men's singles); Luluk/Alvent, Candra/Sigit and world number nine Markis Kidho/Hendra Setiawan (men's doubles); world number 21 Jo Novita/Lita Nurlita and world number 34 Nathalia Poluakan/Rani Mundiasti (women's doubles); world number 48 Adrianti Firdasari and Fransiska Ratnasari (women's singles); world number five Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir and world number 18 Anggun Nugroho/Yunita Tetty (mixed doubles).
The championship will feature 64 players each in the men's and women's singles, and 64 pairs each in the men's, women's and mixed doubles.

seven 05-23-2005, 04:57 AM Thanks, so it is official that Flandy Limpele and Eng Hian are not in the team.
helloworld 05-23-2005, 08:52 AM OMG, What a pity
F.Limpele an E.Hian are so talent :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::c rying::crying::crying:
Neil Nicholls 05-23-2005, 09:22 AM MD will be the category that will be unpredictable this year. with Cai/Fu to be slight favourites.
I think XD and MS (less so) are unpredictable also
and I wouldn't put Cai/Fu as favourites.
IMHO
jkusmanto 05-23-2005, 09:31 AM Don't cry HW,
PBSI has not yet decided who the third pair to go to LA.
Even Markis Kidho/Hendra Setiawan is in the higher rang. It will not say that they go automatically. But the chance is big.
OMG, What a pity
F.Limpele an E.Hian are so talent :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::c rying::crying::crying:
weeyet 06-06-2005, 02:37 PM If I have the power, my wild card will go to :
MS: Xia Xuanze
MD: Flandi Limpele / Eng Hian
WS: Gong Ruina
WD: Du Jing / Yu Yang
XD: Kim Dong-moon / Ra Kyung-min
It's so regret to see Lee Wan Wah not possibly to be in form after long-term injury, otherwise, my wild card goes to Choong/Lee (has nothing to do with our same nationality, feel that they can still play at high level of badminton)
