View Full Version : beginner's racket JumpingSmash 05-21-2005, 04:35 AM Which racket type is good and not too expensive for a beginner player ? SWC_Ant 05-21-2005, 05:02 AM depends on what you count as "expensive" i tend to lean towards recommending the ISO series or MP 2x (22, 23, 25, etc) for beginners. they're relatively cheaper and pretty good tifam 05-21-2005, 08:40 AM In my personal experience, if you are a beginer player, you shouldn't use the cheap rackets of Yonex. Almost of them were made in local enterprise in China and have unremarkable quality. With a moderate paying, you could choose a good racket of Sotx,Gosen or Ashaway. I have done the samething for my wife, a beginer. When your badminton skills improve ,you could think about the expensive rackets of Yonex by their virtual qualities.Good lucks! JumpingSmash 05-21-2005, 11:35 AM And anybody knows where can I get sotx, gosen or ashaway racket in Jakarta ? Do the ordinary sport stores in the mall have them ? SWC_Ant 05-21-2005, 01:57 PM if you want to consider other brands, most brands will offer cheaper rackets that are probably somewhat better value than Yonex lower end rackets. however, i like yonex the best, so i usually recommend that :D tifam 05-21-2005, 08:32 PM Not problem, I see! If you are a beginer and you really love the Yonex brand, you could purcharge a MP 33 ( about 65 -75 USD) which is the only good of the lower price of Yonex rackets.Keep attension : its 665mm lenght ! JumpingSmash 05-21-2005, 10:36 PM Do you mean every racket types are different in length ? Until now, I have been thinking that all racket are same in length:D :D And that 665 mm length is a long one or a short one ? SWC_Ant 05-21-2005, 11:04 PM most rackets should be roughly the same length. some rackets are 1 cm or so longer than others, while some are a tiny bit shorter. i'm not sure whether 665mm is long or not though. storkbill 05-22-2005, 02:55 AM i'm a beginner and use a Cab 10 SP and I got for my wife also a beginner a MP 23. The reason being that MP23 is the entry level MP series, has a isometric head for bigger sweet spot which i reasoned was better for beginners (both are 2U G4 but the MP23 costs 10% more than my Cab 10 SP, both strung at 22lbs.) However, after 10 hours with the MP23, just out of interest, she switched to my Cab 10 SP and started hitting the shuttle more cleanly and so much better. Her feedback was that she couldn't get used to the head-heavy balance of the MP23. So i would say that even for beginners, there is a matter of personal preference. p.s. MP23 is definitely a few mm longer than my Cab 10 SP. Woven 05-22-2005, 08:12 AM And anybody knows where can I get sotx, gosen or ashaway racket in Jakarta ? Do the ordinary sport stores in the mall have them ? i think "susi sports" in Kelapa Gading sell some Gosen models. Not sure bout ashaway. SOTX doesnt exist in the whole indonesia i dont think. for beginners racket i might suggest the Cab 8 which are mainly sold in Royal sporting house (or sports station), should cost no more than RP 200.000 if im not wrong. tifam 05-22-2005, 08:03 PM Hi, 665mm is regular lenght of a badminton racket. But now, there are many rackets made by Yonex, Gosen,La Fleche, Sotx... with long lenght (675mm) or super long (680mm).Especially, the high level MP's, the AT's and the Nano Speed's of Yonex are designed in 675mm. If you are a beginer, when you switch from regular lenght racket to long or super long racket, you could experience in a bit difficulty. JumpingSmash 05-23-2005, 10:16 AM Today I go to the sport store and the shopkeeper said that yonex MP (MP is initial for Muscle Power right ?) is no longer produced, is it true ? And also he recommended me Carbonex 6000, is this racket good ? I dont know enough about Yonex racquets to be authoritative on the Carbonex 6000, but I would say it is either a fake or some very very old stock he wants to get rid of. tifam 05-23-2005, 10:49 AM yah,I think so.Don't purchase that CAB 6000,pls.And waiting to get a suitable racket. SWC_Ant 05-23-2005, 06:30 PM i think a frd of mine got a Cab 6000 (carbonex).. i told her to get an ISO 30 or something, (for beginners, i reasoned that an isometric head is easier to play with and more forgiving than oval). i havent tried the Cab 6000 myself, but as rackets in Canada are very expensive, there was limited choice in the price range JumpingSmash 05-23-2005, 08:35 PM He is very very wrong about MP. How do I know a racket is a fake or not ? HKChua 05-23-2005, 08:39 PM How do I know a racket is a fake or not ? The look and feel. Recently, looks have been deceiving; because the fakes are bearing almost the looks of authentic rackets. But... if you were to look carefully, you will still find that the workmanship of the paintwork is giving it away. If the look still cannot tell, just swing an authentic racket from someone whom you know, then test the one you are testing... Thanks. storkbill 05-23-2005, 08:56 PM The look and feel. Are fake racquets a problem in the usual stores at Queensway, Bras Besah. Also, are fake racquets mainly restricted to the higher-end models. Eg, unlikely to have a fake MP23, ISO 65? Neosakai 05-23-2005, 09:30 PM Correct. Fake companies do not aim at lower end racquets as the profit is not high enough. Therefore, they only target on high end models. motakmo 05-23-2005, 11:23 PM Hi, 665mm is regular lenght of a badminton racket. I want to buy a racket as a birthday gift to my brother, I'm thinking of La Fleche racket, does anyone know which model of this brand suitable to the beginner? tifam 05-24-2005, 04:04 AM Hi, I have just bought a La Fleche Ti 500 3U G4 at bbesports shop in Beijing (China) and paid 85 USD for it.Tried it in about 10 games, I notice that it is a powerful racket, easily make the acquaintance of player, nice painjob and attaching the special bag.You perfectly make your brother a present of La Fleche racket Ti 500. Be a beginner , he completely does in practice with this interesting gift. In personal idea, I think that you could choose the 3U (red color) for him instead of the 4U (purple and white color).Even seeming better than the 3U in defensive, the 4U looks suitable to ladies;) Happy birthday to...him:) JumpingSmash 05-24-2005, 06:45 AM Thx all for your suggestions Today I finally bought Cab 8 Tour SP because any other rackets that you all suggest to me are either too expensive for me or didn't exist in the stores that I go today But still, thx all for your suggestions. I appreciate it so much |
