Hi guys, I just started actively using the forum, so u can say i am "new" to the forum. But just want to ask u guys somethign about VRC. How does the fees actually work. I know how much they cost and stuff for my age, but just the times. Like if i join in january, and since the term ends on april 31, doest hat mean i pay 400 somethign dollars ( in the full year membership type i am going ot pay for) to play for only 3 month? cuz i heard there are wiating lists, if i can't get in VRC by like maybe alot later than May 1, do i still have to pay the full amount? if any of u can explain the whole thing to me, that woudl be great cuz i am currently considering going to VRC. Thank you

If you joined later than the start of the season, your fees are pro-rated... to a certain point. But right now, you don't have to worry about that cuz we got another full membership year:D. However, you get your membership in case someone in the club decides to quit and you're next on the waiting list. You get your $50 deposit back when you're still on the waiting list after a year.

Adult fees:

Initiation fee: CAD 99
Annual fee: CAD 675 per year or CAD 56.25 per month

Membership goes from May 1st, 2005 to April 30, 2006.

If you (manage to) join for July, you don't have to pay for May and June, so your total is 675 - 112.50 (2 x 56.25) = 562.50 per year.

If you want to get on the waiting list, there's a CAD 50 fee, which goes toward your initiation fee, when you get in. So you pay 99 - 50 = 49 after you get off the waiting list, and decide to join the club.

Sorry to correct you Dave...

The pro-rated annual fee does not start until November. So if you join any time from May to October 31, you will have to pay the full year membership fee. If there is no wait list, if you join from November onward through to the end of April, the membership fee is pro-rated based on the number of months remaining.

You will still have to pay the full initiation fee (one-time) regardless of when you join.

well...when i joined (juniors) it was b4 summer and the person found the cost per day and subtracted from the full amount so i got a reasonable deal

As badrad has mentioned before in other threads, joining VRC is not as simple as counting pennies per day. It's a lifestyle. I was comparing costs between VRC and CC drop-ins in my summer membership, but stopped after I realised what I missed when I got out.

When you join the club, you get good courts with a core of competitive players. Even if you can't play with high calibre players yet when you first joined up, you have the chance to watch how they play. And nowhere else in the lower mainland where an adult member could come in at anytime after peak hours to find an empty court to practice or play. Of course, playing with feathers and commuting is expensive, but I would consider those considerations secondary with what I gained in pleasure of being part of the club comraderies and challenges from my games. Life is too short not to consider the intangibles:).

Wow, definately not worth joining VRC. Playing at a CC, is worth it for the amount of time I can actually play.

You might consider dropping in as guest at VRC when Lazybuddy and Friendies are in town.

Thanks for the advise Pete but it is difficult. I'm in WA, for school + working. I only come back to Richmond about every 3 weeks for the weekend. Unfournatley the Bellevue club is not an option either because of the reason for the price and time.

The good time I mainly have is playing at the IMA at the UW (free as part of school tuition) with my friend every Friday.

You can join as an out-of-town member. Much cheaper.
