I include badMania's MD analysis from another thread

Luluk Hadiyanto/Alven Yulianto vs Chong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah
A tough one to call. Comeback veterans Chong/Lee beat Flandy/Eng Hian in two tight matches, while Luluk/Alven were stretched to 3 long games by the Malaysian young pair. Head-to-head record shows that Chong/Lee enjoyed a 3-1 advantage, including the win in last year's final. So, Chong/Lee could create a further upset by beating the no 1 seed, which has not impressed so far this year.

Chan Choong Ming/Koo Kien Keat vs Hendra Gunawan/Joko Riyadi
The young Indonesian pair slowly established themselves as an upcoming pair and I am excited by their progress so far. This is the first time PBSI sent them to 2 big tournaments and they have done reasonably well. They reached the last 16 last week only lost out to Cai/Fu (which is expected). This time, they reached the last 16 again and has the chance to get to quarter-final. Head-to-head score is 1-1. Chan/Koo beat the Indonesians in the final of the Chinese Taipei Open (a 2* tournament) late last year, but, the Indonesians gained their revenge in the Indonesian Open a few weeks later. Both matches ended in 3 games. It could be another 3 long games today and I hope the Indonesians win

Fu Haifeng/Cai Yun vs Mohd Fairuzizuan Tazari/Lin Woon Fui
Head-to-head record is 1-1. I think Fu/Cai will prevail although Mohd/Lin created an upset when they beat the Chinese pair easily in Aviva Singapore Open 2004.

Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen vs Thomas Laybourn/Peter Steffensen
Boe/Mogensen to win and continued their fine progress.

Yeo Yeon Seung/Jeon Jun Bum vs Wong Choong Hann/Chew Choon Eng
Wong/Chew created an upset by beating the upcoming Korean pair Jung/Lee in the first round. With an experienced double player in Chew Choon Eng, they could well beat another Korean pair which is still relatively unknown!

Simon Archer/Anthony Clark vs Candra Wijaya/Sigit Budiarto
Candra/Sigit to win. A quarter-final berth in the Malaysian Open will guarantee that they will be the 2nd seed for the WC, with Jens Eriksen/Martin Lundgaard Hansen confirmed to be the top seed. Another final beckons as well since the no 2 seed in this tournament lost out suprisingly last night.

Sang Yang/Xie Zhongbo vs Markhis Kidho/Hendra Setiawan
Why is Zheng Bo not paired with Sang Yang remains a mystery to me...or have they decided to break this pair up and create a new pair in Sang/Xie?
I hope the young Indonesian pair can win to maintain their top 10 ranking and hopefully secure the 8th seeding for the WC next month. With Passke/Rasmussen removed from their side of the draw, Markis/Hendra has an excellent chance to advance to the semi-final and face their senior (Candra/Sigit).

Tan Bin Shen/Ong Soon Hock vs Sudket Prapakamol/Patapol Ngernsrisuk
Another tough call, but, based on last night's performance, I fancy the Thai pair to advance to the quarter-final.

My prediction for the winners are:
Choong/Lee
Chan/Koo
Fu/Cai
Boe/Mogensen
Chew/Wong
Candra/Sigit
Markis/Hendra
Tan/Ong

In the WD, the most possible upset that I can see is
Schjoldager/Andersen v Tripp/Wright (8*)
I think the other seeds will safely go through.

In the XD,
Clark/Kellogg v Laybourn/Juhl (8*)
The other seeds should safely advance.

Another intriguing match will be Cheng Shao Chieh vs Zhang Ning (2*).
Cheng (19 yo, WR 23 from Taiwan) is the reigning World Junior Champion last year and touted to be the threat to Chinese shuttlers. Although an upset seems unlikely, given Zhang Ning's good form lately, I hope that Cheng can put up a fight.

Mia vs Pi is another tough match...these 2 seems to meet each other lately.

I agree basically, Gong Wj may stage an upset against Wong considering Wong's poor form in SO.

Last one is tough to call....the Thai pair has more experience ?

Hendra/Joko had a gigantic battle with Othsuka/Masuda day earlier while Koo/Chan had an easy match against the Danes. i hope Koo/Chan can raise their game tonite and justify their seeding. same scenario for Tan/Ong and Sudket/Patapol.

Hendra/Joko had a gigantic battle with Othsuka/Masuda day earlier while Koo/Chan had an easy match against the Danes.

Hehe....they scraped through 17-16 in the second set after losing the first set. The third set was tight too. Yet, it was a good experience for them as the Jap pair is technically better (WR 27). Last week, they beat Mohd Tazari/Lin (WR 14), so, anything is possible. Hopefully, they still have the stamina to beat the inconsistent Chan/Koo (who lost to Flandy/Eng Hian last week). If PBSI continues to send them to the high-rated tourneys after the WC (China Open, Indonesian Open, etc), I will expect them to be in the top 10-15 in a year time!

Although I would very much like them to beat the Malaysian pair (Luluk/Alven is still my fav pair right now), it seems that the Indonesian pair is inconsistent at the moment and with the poorer head-to-head record, Chong/Lee has the slight advantage. Of course, it will be great if Luluk/Alven can recover the form which brought them 2 majors late last year :D

Two upsets so far! World number one Xie Xf lost to Li Li in three games while Zhang Jun/Gao Ling lost to the rather unknown Thai pair in MX!

Jiang Yj lost to Wang Chen, 0-2. Mia avenged her defeat over Pi HY , she won easily. The seeded pairs went through for the rest of the matches in MX.

What a day....plenty of upsets so far...perhaps more to come in the WD and MD ?

So it will be two Chinese for the MS semi-finals (likely to be Lin Dan and Bao Chunlai). Malaysians have two half-chances in Hafiz and Chong Wei. Peter vs Hafiz will be another tough match, as for Taufik vs Chong Wei....I fancy Taufik to go through.

WS is interesting....with so many unexpected players in the quarter-finals. The only senior Chinese left is Zhang Ning, but look out for the juniors like Lu Lan and Zhu Lin. Zhang Ning could well collect her second title in two weeks.
