This thread is similar to the other one but this one is a poll on who you would like to see win the title in each category.

For myself, I have chosen:

MS: Peter Gade (he has worked so hard but haven't gotten any results shown since the 2005 Korean Open)

WS: Zhang Ning (I feel that this may be her last big tournament)

For Men's Singles, Personally i would want to see Peter to win. I don't know about LCW consistency but i give him 50/50. Taufik have higher chances than Lin Dan i suppose.

Wow! Although Peter no longer possesses the form that he once had, he is still a favorite for many fans. Taufik seems to be as popular too with his skils and techniques. I think Lin Dan would have more fans than these two if only he wasn't so arrogant.

MS peter gade ,flying the flag for europe, his sportsmanship, not having many more WC opportunities

XD robertson/emms, raise profile of badminton higher in britain particularly with Olympics coming in 2012, robertson`s showmanship is also good for the game`s profile (in my view) :)

I'm his fan!! Hehehe. Yeah, he's always been shadowed by Lin Dan, but I like Lin too! I think he's an excellent player... Hope he'll succeed in the WC.

its not that I prefer indonesia to win but I really like their game style...

Agree with you! LCW can hardly win coz his skill is still not as good as LinDan & Taufik. Hope Taufik can win coz I am a big fan of him. but am sure Lin Dan will give him a good fight if they meet at final.

Men double : My favorite is Sigit & Wijaya, they are veteran !!!

BTW, do you know usually when (US time) the tournament will be carried out?

Their game style is why I admire them.But LinDan will go all out for the championship as he is very confident to win.

lin dan always fail in important big tournaments, such as all england,olympic,world champion

Lindan only failed at the olympics, that's all. 2004 he beat Peter to win AE. 2005 he probably let Chen Hong won it (if you've read some of the other threads). The last WC was in 2003, and Lindan is much better now so there is no fair comparison.

From the Malasian open final and the Asian vs. Europe matches, Lin Dan seemed very much on form. LCW just over-performed lol. And even if he didn't play his hardest against Bjeorn and Bosen, his game was very smooth and fast.

Can Lin Dan perform up to the mark? I hated the way he lost the 3rd game against LCW. At this level, you don't give opponents 7 points in a row from 8-9 to 15-9.

Some forummers measure against AE, which I think is inaccurate. All players get a chance every year to win AE, and qualification restrictions don't apply such as for Olympics/World Championships.

Yup, you may dream, but your dream maybe rather unrelistic, don't you ?
Principally I agree with you, but technically I doubt this winner list will be materialized.

I only have hope in the MS, if Lee Chong Wei can perform even better than My'sia Open, leading him to the final.His " not giving up " spirit is fabulous !!!:D
but skill wise if far beyond LinDan & Taufik.

Our My'sia MD hopefully can go in semi- final !

As I see it Taufik and Lin Dan are very different in gameplay and style. Both plays an attacking minded game, but where Taufik uses his superb technical skills with close net shots and power smashes, Lin Dan forces his opponent to run around on court and finish them off with speed and smashes. Lin is faster and has more stamina than Taufik, but Taufik has an edge in technical skill. I Would rate Hafiz as a player near Taufik, both very inconsistent and with superior strokes. Gade is more similar to Lin Dan, but with age has lost a little speed, Gade on the other side has in my opinion almost the same technical skills as Taufik. Heres my list on the 8 seeded players technic, skills, stamina and mental str.... Of course everybody has good stamina also Taufik and Gade even if they are rated 7 and 8, they played 96 minutes. its quite funny that 5-6 out of these 8 suffers from lack of mental str which has been seen on big events as the WC, TC and Olympics

he hasnt done THAT poorly out of malaysia... Singapore Open 04 Finals, Where his lack of fitness let him down... He performed well in the sudirman cup... and Singapore Open 05 was dissapointing... But i believe that he is on the rise... and that with proper attitude and proper training... he will do well oin the international circuit.

Well...

LCW is good but, I've watched the MO many times and you could clearly see that Lin Dan was far superior in his game.

Lin was controllign almost everything, but failed to keep his nerves and lost to himself.

IMHO, LCW is getting better and better but he is still far from players like Taufik or Lin Dan. I'm sure Lin is dying to get a sweet revenge on LCW next time they play and I don't think the same thing will happen.

For this WC, I really want Taufik or Peter Gade to win. One thing I noticed about Taufik is that he performs alot better when he is an underdog and have to prove something. Peter Gade on the other hand seems to always reach semis but has hard time to get into the finals lately.

I hope the winners(not necesarily the most likely winners) would be:
MS: Lin Dan(45%, Taufik has similar chance as he is not disciplined, less stamina but truly talented)
WS: Xie XingFan(40%, as Zhang Ning is more likely to win),
MD: Cai Yun /Fu HaiFeng(30%, Chandra/Sigit might have bigger chance, and Jonas/Lars have fair chance too)
WD: Yang Wei/Zhang JieWen(50%, Gao Ling need to concentrate on MX)
MX: Zhang Jun/ Gao Ling(40%, Robertson/Gail: need to prove mental strength at critical points in big tournaments)
This is my wish list, with the chance out of all players in the respective pool.
And all of these might be changed when we see the draws.

LCW wants to prove himself in the international circuit and I believe he will. I like his "dont-give-up" attitude in the MO even though he suffered a bruise on his knee against Lin Dan. ;)

Mine is:

MS: Taufik Hidayat, my fave player, skillfull but weak stamina
WS: All Chinese players, no matter Xinfang, Zhang Ning, or Zhou Mi. Deep in my
heart I still hope Audina will revenge to Zhang in Olympics :)
MD: All Indonesian pairs, no matter Chandra/Sigit (new blood), Luluk/Alvent, or Flandy/Eng HIan :confused:
WD: Wong Pty/??? (Mal) :rolleyes: who knows???
XD: Zhang Jun/Gao Ling, but it's ok if Nova/Lilyana can reign WC supreme wow...that will be greaaattt

MS: lin dan, although i don't like him, i hope he win. meanwhile, my friend likes Taufik Hidayat, she wants him to beat lin dan .

WS: zhang ning. i think she is a diligence athlete.

MD: Fu haifeng / cai yun. i haven't seen their compete yet, however, i like fu haifeng.

WD: gao ling/huang sui

I'm Chinese but I really hope Peter Gade will win the MS. Taufik and Lin Dan are still young and I feel that Gade deserves to win one seven star tournament before he retires. However unlikely that's going to happen, Peter Gade is my fav!
