i thought badminton was invented in the military, they wanted to play tennis, but they had little space so. or am i mistaken this with something else? well anyway, solders->gentlemen....?

I thought tennis was the Gentlemen's sport. I'm sure it goe back to the old days when opponents if tennis & badminton were very civil & polite towards each other. Players always gave their opponent the benefit of the doubt. In days gone by, these sport were not as adversarial or as vicious in spirit as football, ice hockey & other sports.

Thanks. Apparently this explanation seems to be the closest to what the teacher was saying. She said it had to do with trusting the other player's word regarding the calls of whether in bounds or out of bounds.
