I watched TC2004 quarter finals between Mal and INA this weekend and I was impressed with KKK's performance against much experienced Hian/Limpele.

The commentator repeated many times KKK is only 19 years old. Initially, he made many unforced mistakes which gave away the first match easily to the INA pairs. Coming back on the second game, KKK begun to put up a tough fight, even more explosive than Chew, and I was stunt when the Mal pairs managed to take the second game. KKK was fast, and furious. Will he be Mal next raising star in Men's doubles ? Who will be his partner after Chew retires ?

Actually, Chew is not his normal partner. His regular partner is Gan Taik Chai, who (was injured for the tourney??) So, he won't be missing a partner any time too soon.

China's got 2 young MD pairs who can beat most pairs on their good days. The other nation's top MD are again and will be phazed out soon. But Malaysia may have a top contender in this pair. Only time will tell.

It would be interesting to monitor the development of each pair for the next few years to come. At the moment, it seems Fu/Cai remains at the top, who is the next, Luluk/Yulianto or KKK/Gaik ?

Luluk/Alven is around 24 or 25 years old...

I think that Koo/Gan is still very far behind compared to Luluk/Alven... KKK is good, but he needs more time (maybe another 4 years??) to gain experiences...you can see that he was very nervous during the thomas cup but he has the power and speed to match the chinese players...

I hope that Koo and Chan Chong Ming could be paired up to play together. I believe that Chan is a great player and hope to see him more in the future. Moreover, he is only 24 years old and his usual parter, Chew Choong Eng is already 28.

I think Kuan Beng Hong , Yeoh Kay Bin , Gan Taik Chai are still young players with great potential.

i believe partnering younger players with more senior players has been a dev strategy that has been around for some time. just take note the past 10 years in indonesian badminton. especially after the split of rexy and ricky i can remember 1 of them pertnering younger players and still creating results. i cant remember who but i think it was with candra, or halim? or was it tony?

cant remember no more???? but i believe results and performance of these young-senior pairs did not compromise(much) on results...

Cool, if they will play at WC2005, I will definitely see them play live or maybe meet them to get autograph. By the way, I never get autograph from players before, can I just walk up to them and get signature ? Are there guidelines or untold "rules" that I should be aware of ?

No guidelines, I think, but here are some "useful pointers" to avoid looking like an ultra-no-lifer-of-a-desperado:

1. Smile, make your request politely, say thank you and walk away (whether for autograph or photograph)

2. Avoid unnecessary declarations of love (more likely to be seen in females than males) eg. gasping, gawking, grabbing your friend (if you are accompanied by one) or worse still, screaming.

3. Try not to ask when they are warming up, warming down, just before they play a match or after they have lost one - no matter how desperate you are. You will almost always be turned down.

4. Make your request only once in every tournament. For instance, if you absolutely LOVE Lee Wan Wah and feel that you cannot live without at least 10 of his autographs, you might want to attend 10 different tournaments rather than approach him ten times in a single event. Imagine how embarassing it would be for yourself if he, not to mention his coach, team mates and manager, recognizes you as "the fan who keeps coming back."

One disclaimer though: I have never asked any player for an auto/photo with the exception of Kim Dong Moon when I was half-coerced and half-coaxed into doing so. The above guidelines were constructed as a result of my personal observation of star-gazers and chasers, and are in no way infallible. Any resemblance to the attitude of fans or players, whether living or dead, is purely coincidental. ;)

Since 2004 till now, I have noticed a new young double player, Koo Kien Keat..
He is only 19 years old...
He is attactive and defensive too...dun forget about his speed also..
He love to play trick shots also..
And he looks super handsome during Sudirman Cup 2005 after he had a haircut...
I think he has the potential to become a TOP player...

In general, my impression is the three young pairs from MAL are all equally talented with KKK being the one stands out among them. The only disadvantage is their height, which might not matter (Yap Kim Hock is even tinier than them).

kkk is a six footer but i am not sure about other.. kkk is quite muscular like chen hong..
KKK was a single player before yap KM persude him to be a double player since he is going no where wif his single :P

I think KKK wore red shoes to DO and everyone commented on them. They said - only he can wear those shoes, cuz he's smartass enough. And only he had those earrings cuz he's cool enough. He's the kind of guy you don't really dare to disturb. :rolleyes:

I went to see them played at the COmonwealth 2006 Melbourne, I agree that Chong Min is very friendly and has a great smile especially when u wave at him, he responds!!! Lee CHong Wei is a bit shy I find, but I like him when he is signing autographs for fans, so concentrating and patient!!! Kien ket is pretty cool, a smart player, I love his tricks!!! But he doesn;t seem to be very enthusiastic when it comes to meeting the fans or may be he was too tired on that day???

BTW, Sam Hui's brother's name I think is Hui Gun Ying in canton and XU guang Ying in mandarin if I'm not wrong. But KKK's hairstyle does look a bit like his hahahhah..

Hi all - I'm a newbie to the threads. I was fortunate enough to grab tickets to the badminton finals for Melbourne Commonwealth 2006, so I thought that I'll share my experience of seeing Koo Kien Keat in action + meeting him + photos. :p

Prior to this match, I know that KKK is one of Malaysia's rising stars and he's also the top national pair with veteran Chan Chong Ming, but I've never seen him play on court. I have to say that I am VERY impressed with him (and the match!! Choong Tan Fook-Wong Choon Hann put up a credible fight even if the scores didn't reflect that...). KKK has a very powerful jump-smash (in which I noticed he used that move a LOT)...in fact, he was the one that jumped around the most, to the point my friend was like "...eh, how come he NEVER gets tired?!" :D KKK's netplay was good as well, he managed to trick the other pair quite a few number of times. I felt that he and Chan Chong Ming formed a very good partnership, they can read each other quite well.

(And also I feel that they are good friends off-court as well...)

After the medal ceremonies, I also had the chance to grab a photo with KKK and his autograph, and to speak a few words with him.

I should mention here that he was the one that was most popular with the fans - but only him, Chan Chong Ming and Lee Chong Wei hung around to meet and greet with the fans. Yap Kim Hock was there too, and we (me and my friends, haha) made him bring Cheah Soon Kit out. :P

To be honest, KKK was nothing like I expected him to be. :P On-court, he reminded me of the younger Cheah Soon Kit (minus the bad temper/screaming at his partner when the game wasn't going well) - very confident with the fist pumping and smiles. A little cocky, I would say, and I expected him to be rather cool-ish and maybe a little stand-offish in real life (as Cheah Soon Kit was...and still is, somewhat I felt (met him, too!)).

But KKK was quite childish. *LOL* He was in very high spirits after winning the gold medal, and signed autographs, chatting happily with the girls and even flirted with some of them, and making random comments that are actually quite funny but sort of dumb. :D He was more than happy to pose for photos with fans, and when asked to pose for an individual photo, he even jokingly unzipped his jacket and wanted to assume a "muscle-man" pose. I have to say that I think he is really cute even if a little childish. :p

After a while, I think he got tired and maybe a little bored with signing 48384843045784 autographs *LOL* He became quieter and less silly and it started to show that he was kind of tired and starting to want to get out of there. XD;;

Then I came home and ran a search on him and found out that he's only 20 going on 21!! (younger than ME, even!!) And he's also the youngest one on the team...hmmm. No wonder he wasn't as mature or "professional" as Chan Chong Ming and Lee Chong Wei (who signed all autographs, posed for all pictures without showing any signs of tiredness). But then again, that makes him more genuine, I supposed? Heh.

(Actually, when I looked back at the photo me and my friends took with him, he really did look very very young. Younger than 20, even)

Hi all - I'm a newbie to the threads. I was fortunate enough to grab tickets to the badminton finals for Melbourne Commonwealth 2006, so I thought that I'll share my experience of seeing Koo Kien Keat in action + meeting him + photos. :p

Prior to this match, I know that KKK is one of Malaysia's rising stars and he's also the top national pair with veteran Chan Chong Ming, but I've never seen him play on court. I have to say that I am VERY impressed with him (and the match!! Choong Tan Fook-Wong Choon Hann put up a credible fight even if the scores didn't reflect that...). KKK has a very powerful jump-smash (in which I noticed he used that move a LOT)...in fact, he was the one that jumped around the most, to the point my friend was like "...eh, how come he NEVER gets tired?!" :D KKK's netplay was good as well, he managed to trick the other pair quite a few number of times. I felt that he and Chan Chong Ming formed a very good partnership, they can read each other quite well.

(And also I feel that they are good friends off-court as well...)

After the medal ceremonies, I also had the chance to grab a photo with KKK and his autograph, and to speak a few words with him.

I should mention here that he was the one that was most popular with the fans - but only him, Chan Chong Ming and Lee Chong Wei hung around to meet and greet with the fans. Yap Kim Hock was there too, and we (me and my friends, haha) made him bring Cheah Soon Kit out. :P

To be honest, KKK was nothing like I expected him to be. :P On-court, he reminded me of the younger Cheah Soon Kit (minus the bad temper/screaming at his partner when the game wasn't going well) - very confident with the fist pumping and smiles. A little cocky, I would say, and I expected him to be rather cool-ish and maybe a little stand-offish in real life (as Cheah Soon Kit was...and still is, somewhat I felt (met him, too!)).

But KKK was quite childish. *LOL* He was in very high spirits after winning the gold medal, and signed autographs, chatting happily with the girls and even flirted with some of them, and making random comments that are actually quite funny but sort of dumb. :D He was more than happy to pose for photos with fans, and when asked to pose for an individual photo, he even jokingly unzipped his jacket and wanted to assume a "muscle-man" pose. I have to say that I think he is really cute even if a little childish. :p

After a while, I think he got tired and maybe a little bored with signing 48384843045784 autographs *LOL* He became quieter and less silly and it started to show that he was kind of tired and starting to want to get out of there. XD;;

Then I came home and ran a search on him and found out that he's only 20 going on 21!! (younger than ME, even!!) And he's also the youngest one on the team...hmmm. No wonder he wasn't as mature or "professional" as Chan Chong Ming and Lee Chong Wei (who signed all autographs, posed for all pictures without showing any signs of tiredness). But then again, that makes him more genuine, I supposed? Heh.

(Actually, when I looked back at the photo me and my friends took with him, he really did look very very young. Younger than 20, even)

i was kindda dissappointed with the commonwealth games mens doubles final when KKK/CCM vs CTF/WCH. i think the game wasnt exciting at all. i feel like watching them training more than watching them competing. which is kindda dissappointed. anyway, i think WCH did try his best in dat game. coz he lost his singles to LCW. but unfortunately, he still miss the gold medal for mens doubles. i hv to admit that KKK is a good player.. esp with his net ball~ he's quick. there's still room for improvement to become the new rising star for mens doubles! add oil!!!

Hello, i'm from indonesia, i'm new in this forum but i luv badminton since i was young, my mom really loved badminton, she watched every badminton tournament on TV, her favourite was Susi Susanti. But for me, I admire KKK
KKK is so cool, he's not handsome but he has character, his play was great when i saw him yesterday in Semifinal Thomas Cup Tournament. I hope I'll see him soon in Indonesia Open next year that will held at my city. I can't wait to get his photo and autograph :)

i think kkk is 20 this year... u can meet him up before or after the tournament.. go ahead and ask for autographs or to take a picture with him, but make sure u are not disturbing him.. if he is not busy with anything,i think he will agree...;)

My sister and I went to see their TC training at Kuching too. Only went once, when they spilt into Malaysia A and Malaysia B, we were sitting at the 1st row, just next to the court. Aha, tht was the 1st time i meet them in person, so near. :D

first match was WCH vs KBH, plus other players, all together 4 matches, watched til 11pm++ without dinner. :p

In between the matches, we did walked in and out to get some fresh air, too crowded with people. :( But we mostly went to the area for players to rest, and to soak their feet into the ice cold water. That's a hot spot to see them even nearer. maybe within 1 meter. ;)

It also a place to see coaches + support team coaching the players. I saw Li Mao "half advised half forced" WCH to soak his leg in the cold water after the first match. But WCH refused at first, but in the end, still had to soak, like kena marah abit. :D

last time when i went to watch their match..they not really have their room, just seeing them around the stadium, as long as u can meet them other places outside the restriction area, you can ask them for taking photo if they are free. i think they trainning in Stadium Juara, rite? coz BAM is there.. n heard tat they will move to bukit jalil too
