i have heard a lot of people saying they enjoy playing doubles better than singles or singles better than doubles. To me i would rather play singles and kill them on my own knowing i did all the work:D . Also singles is more up to you and knowing that it is always coming to you and not to the other person and making quick decisions on if its your shot or not. you do have to move around which tires you out quite a bit. ( but heard international players covers 4 miles of the court in 1 match)

in doubles you do alot less footwork. not long ago i was playing a mens doubles and i had a bad clash of the raquets. my NS8K luckily survived the clash but my partners didnt and from this experience i have wandered off playing doubles more often than i used to.

today im playing singles and on the rare occasion doubles.
Whats your favourite singles or doubles?

I most definately preffer singles, I favour the concept of every shot is your own, you don't need to worry about racket collisions or hitting your partner. I also like the idea of if you win, its all your work, and if you don't perform, theres nobody else to blame.
I also think singles is more challenging, well...with the regulars I play with singles is definately more hard work, and I love a challenge ;)

In singles you can't say: "Hey, you were supposed to get that one..." :D

i agree with jay... also singles allows you to be more creative, doubles is just too fast for me

I like doubles more. Faster action and frankly a lot more of it. God, I love the attacking and the tight net battles. Also I find it commands tighter shots and faster reflexes, more of a challenge in terms of skill, rather than physicals that you often find in singles. But I agree with loco here, the best part of doubles is blaming your partner for losing a rally;) .

I'd say singles ... reasons well ... like most of you have stated , in singles you , yourself can control the outcome of your game and of course...

I also like the idea of if you win, its all your work, and if you don't perform, theres nobody else to blame.

so true :)

I prefer Doubles as well. My partner and I know how to rotate at times and understands each other so we dont have a problem with "That was your shot"

I prefer singles. Every point is won by yourself and lost by yourself. You have nobody else to blame. Thinking about this can really make you improve harder.

Same here, I prefer singles. I get the good feeling knowing that all the shots are yours. Another problem with doubles (and I'm sure everyone has had this) is that you aren't sure who's going to hit the shuttle and at the final moment you decide, the shuttle already hits the floor!

hum im always switching between the two...if my hand feels like crap ill play singles cause i can use my drops and clears withough hurting my hand and have the occasional smash, i dont mind the running plus its nice knowing that i will win it...or lose it by myself. when my hand is not feeling like crap i will play doubles cause well i can just smash the hell out of my opponents and thats always fun plus the fast action is always great. i like both and well cant chose one over the other...

singles is fuN MON! like...yeah the running is kinda tiring...but SUCK IT UP! your opponent hasta do it as well :p singles..is mainly strat; if you have none..then good luck. Dbles is also strat, but power, speed, and teamwork is in high demand as well. i like the idea of matching brain to..the other thing :D BUT! the BEST thing about singles is when you play someone that is not to your level ;) It's a good feeling knowing that your hard-work/training has finally paid off in the form of YOU PWNING SOMEONE!!! MAKING THEM RUN THEIR @$$ OFF!!! muahah! :D GO SINGLES!

Hardly to decide, but I think I like Single just a little bit more. The double factor also depend on who I am playing with that day.:D

P.S: why not making a poll???

I like singles for a really intensive match with lots of hard badminton.
Doubles is also good as long as me and my partner work together.
sometimes we do sometimes we don't

Hi,
I love single when I was in my 20s or 30s. As age catching up, I switch to double. As one's matured, one tends to play more controlled game than fast game. Double can be fast or controlled pace depend how u play. U have a partner to count on and this few seconds overlaps give us time to recover n adjust to the changes in pace.
U just dont have the time to pause if u are playing single. The pace could be fast and intense.
Both are exciting n good in their ways.

singles. definitely. but cant find any good regulars to play against. so mostly have to randomly call people up to play and this always results in them calling even more people to play doubles.

competitive singles. if playing for fun then doubles does it.

Doubles is quite fun and I really love it. The best part is when I get a partner around my skill level or higher and we can do really well against other pairs since I'm more of the defensive player in doubles.

It also gives you time to rest while you're in the game which gives you more energy during it.

Men's doubles forever!!!

Specially if I'm playing with my doubles partner, Fran.
It's just so easy and fun to play with him (maybe that's why we're the champions in Madrid.......hehehe).

But doubles has always been my favourite. It's faster, stronger, there are less empty spaces,......... just thrilling.

definitely singles. Doubles i dont even get tired.. Also i love playing control and massive amounts of trick shots. Easier to do in singles. :)

Doubles! :D

I do not have the stamina for singles. Most of the people here play doubles anyway, so singles play is mostly ignored.

If i dont have much time to burn and am looking for a good workout, then singles would be the answer... but i'd have to find an opponent that would be the same level or it would be no fun at all.

Doubles is definately better. Its faster and requires you to be more consistant and trick shots feel soo much better when you out-play two opponents instead of one. Once you get to know your partner, you can create plays that look briliant and you get a great ruch when they work.

singles... it tests your own abilities alot more...

singles. I hate it when u lose and u feel like its your fault. Also when ur partner isnt the same skilll level as u, if theyre better than u ur mistakes r "highlighted" more and if ur partner is worse , u have to do ALL the work (or they r the cause of the other team gaining points).

I think that for a sense of personal acheivement, nothing says you’ve gotten better than winning in singles.

But, to be fair, you can still get that feeling in doubles if your partner is as serious as you are. I find that I enjoy doubles more because it allows me to apply more tactics. Strangely enough, people say doubles is ‘faster’ but I say it’s slower—my current skillset for techniques is such that when I play singles against people who are better than me, that may mean that they’ll simply put the bird where I am not. I know they’re going to do it, mind you, it’s just that some times I have no way of preventing it given my current skill level.

In doubles, however (assuming I have a partner that I can work with) I consider the game ‘slower’ because the point turnover is not so drastic—you don’t lose points so much to simply aiming where there’s holes, but rather, you lose points if your opponent applied strategies to break up your formation then score. Thus, though the return of shots is faster, i’d say that the game is overal ‘slower’ mainly because deffense is also stronger.

So, I’m a doubles fan on most days, but every now and then when my ego needs to confirm itself, i’ll play singles, though i’m actually comparitively terrible at it—just don’t have the stamina! If I had better physique and sharper accuracy though I would probably like singles better-- as everyone mentioned, the sense of personal acheivement is really something.

I like playing singles, all the pressure is on me, and I can't blame others if I lose the game. And best of all, I don't let my partner down, cuz I have none! More exercise, and if you get the birdie past the player, you don't have to worry about another backing him up.

doubles. hint: see my name. I'm accustom to play double all the time due to court availability. a lot of ppl with only 3 courts most of the time (there is additional 2 courts but the lighting, net and measurement sucks) so, it's better fof the ppl waiting to get court time if all ppl play double. I'm half decent on single altough after 1/2 of the game I would lost concentration and focus the my shots start to get inconsistence, espc if I'm behind:crying:

doubles - compensates my incredibly poor footwork and backhand (doubles = more time for overhead :))

also my tactics are a lot better with doubles then singles.

Singles. shows one's superiority over the other. Including the fundamentals of tactics, footwork, placement and psychological.

I'm the speed type. I think I went for doubles when I saw the best players in the gym I went to play. I told myself "I want to play doubles like THAT!"

Well, it's about a 10-year pilgrimage...

I think it's also because I got sick of slow, weak, stupid games in high school. None of us knew how to play then...

As for singles, well, I practice martial arts. I keep my sparring Taekwon-Do-like. That's one hell of a 1-on-1 sport...

When i want to have a good run and sweat, i do go for singles. I do love playing singles. On the other hand , i like playing doubles as well. It help me to be a better team player and at the same time make me learn on how to adjust on the court with my different partners. Its fun playing with a partner as well.

No favourites.. just Badminton.
