Hi im new to the forum but have been playing badminton for two years. I currently have a Prince Warrior but as it is now cracked badly. I am going to get a new racquet. I am a singles player and do not mind changing head shape but could someone please advise me on the best racquet:confused: , for singles play offering lots of power and control. Money is not a problem.

p.s before you say look at the archives I scanned every topic up to page 9 and foun nothing of use because it all old.

Thanks for your help.

There are many great racquets for singles with lots of control and power. It depends more on a lot of preference since there are so many great choices out there.

First of all, I'm going to assume you'd like a Yonex since you keep saying you want the best racquet... Yonex should give you that.

There are SO many choices, many with the most mininscual differences. However since you're opting for the best, in my opinion, the best 3 racquets right now "designed" for singles play are probably the AT700, MP99 and CAB30MS. I haven't tried the NS8000 so I won't comment on that.

AT700, this racquet takes a bit of skill to handle. It's sweetspot is quite small. However if you use it well, there is a lot of rewards to reap. It is light but it packs SO much punch into your shots. I would buy this racquet if I were at least an intermediate player able to deal with a harder to find sweet spot. If I were looking for a lot of power and like head heavy racquets.

MP99 is a racquet you can grow with more. Its sweet spot is much bigger compared to AT700. It's still got LOTS of power but a tad less than AT700. Its control is good very good as well. This is probably the safest choice for you. I would get the racquet if I wanted an easier racquet to handle.

CAB30MS is like an MP99 but flexier. I would get this mainly to save money and if I liked Carbonex's. Don't get me wrong though, this ain't no poor man's MP99, I own one of these and it's a GREAT racquet. Actually there is a huge thread praising this racquet.

Hope this helps. I'd also like to add that these 3 are mainly racquets a bit more recent that are quite easy to obtain. These are also "designed" for singles but there are a TON of great racquets. Both the AT800's are very playable in singles, the AT500 won't really disappoint you either, it's very popular. Also there is MP100 which I personally own and prefer. It's very powerful and somewhat similar to MP99 but much more stiff which I prefer. However it may be hard to find which is why I didn't recommend it.

Hope this helps.

that's tough angus!
to be honest. the definition of "best racket" is different from player to player.
take my case as an example. my favourite racket is mp88. some of my friends claim that it's light, it's too flexible. can't generate much power with it........ that is totally a ladys' racket.
i said "oh yeah?" after that i had game with them and gave them a real hard time with my mp88 ! some of them didn't even have reaction to return my smash!
after that, i let them try it but saddly nobody seemed to like it at all!
IMO. there won't be a singe "best racket" which's good for everyone. u have to try and see which one is better in your hand.
i m not familiar with prince racket. but i would say. if u prefer the one that u are currently using just stick with it. otherwise u may try others with different performance and find out which suit u most.

i would choose a carlton airblade rasmussen tour as it is very light and flexible. but if you want a raquet with more power then choose the yonex nano-speed 8000

In my opinion i think that a really good singles racquet is the AT700, but thats just because I have one and use it all the time.
The AT800OF is also really good.

There is a sticky in these forums somewhere that has the yonex selection charts. It has info on which racquets are singles, offense, defence, doubles.

This is the thread for the selection charts. Browse through for the newer charts or go to yonex.co.uk and download the badminton catalogue and that has the newest chart.

Yonex AT800OF 4U definately - built for doubles, but great for singles as well. Packs as much punch as MP100, is as easy to manouvre as NS8000 and is still fairly forgiving. Though AT700 and MP100 are very very good as well...
